Reg has worked solo throughout the case, he draws some interesting conclusions about the identity of the killer, as does Mike.
It started with a dramatic, explosive episode, and it ends with one, after two slightly slower paced middle episodes, The Gunner's daughter ends in dramatic fashion. The outcome was the one I had predicted early on, but had changed my mind midway through, believing the guilty party to be someone else.
It's been an interesting watch, you quite literally see Reg being taken in, you wonder if it's simply due to what's happened at home with Sheila, or something else.
Some really dramatic scenes, and unusual for The Ruth Rendell mysteries, we get a little bit of fisticuffs.
My major gripe with this series, has been the handling of Sergeant Martin, by Part two you're left wondering if the events in Part one did actually happen or not, a major crime, and it's just all forgotten about, it makes no sense, bit even discussed at all.
Overall it's been a good watch, it's a strong final episode. 8/10.
