- The rough-and-tumble space pirates known as the Ravagers abduct T'Challa instead of Peter Quill.
- The Ravagers abducted T'Challa by accident instead of Peter Quill, so that T'Challa becomes Star Lord and gains a well-deserved reputation as a galactic hero as he and the Ravagers--including Thanos--try to pull a heist against the Collector.—Gislef
- On the abandoned planet Morag, a masked Star Lord enters an ancient temple. He uses a device to pull a force-field encased sphere to him. Korath and two of his men enter, aim their guns at Star Lord, and tell him to drop the sphere. Star Lord removes his mask revealing that he's Prince T'Challa of Earth, and Korath says that he's a huge fan of Star Lord.
Korath tells has men to stand down, saying that it's the Star Lord, the legendary outlaw who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, and admits that he would like to join the Ravagers. The alien regrets that he has to take the sphere from T'Challa, and offers to fight him without his gun. T'Challa tells him to use it, and fights Korath barehanded. He suckers Korath into hitting the charged force field, and Korath is stunned unconscious. The two men open fire on T'Challa, who dodges their blasts, takes cover, and uses his device to stun them.
T'Challa runs outside with Korath, and finds more soldiers waiting. He tells them that as a Ravager, he's never alone. Yondu uses his Yakka arrow to kill the soldiers, and T'Challa shows him the sphere. The Ravager jokingly says that they could sell, it, and T'Challa figures it'd be put to better use jumpstarting a race's star. Their ship lands nearby, and they board and depart.
Earth, Wakanda: 1988
A young T'Challa tells his father, Baba, that he wants to go out to see the world. Baba warns him that the world is full of war and hatred, and has nothing to offer Wakanda. He understands that T'Challa has the heart of an explorer, but warns that all T'Challa will find if he goes there will be pain and destruction.
Later, T'Challa throws his spear outside of the nation's force field and goes out to retrieve it. A Ravager ship arrives on Earth to abduct the child of Ego, and Yondu sends Kraglin and Taserface to get the child. They take T'Challa by mistake and bring him to Yondu, who realizes their error. The two Ravagers explain that they detected cosmic energy, and T'Challa explains that his home is built on Vibranium. When T'Challa says that he was out exploring, Yondu invites him to explore a galaxy's worth of worlds.
20 Years Later
T'Challa and the other Ravagers go to a planet and drink, initiating their new member Korath. Thanos, a Ravager, joins them, and explains that T'Challa showed him there's more than one way to reallocate the galaxy's resources. T'Challa goes to the bar and buys a drink from the bartender, Drax. When Drax realizes that T'Challa saved his homeworld, along with Drax's wife and children, he's happy to meet T'Challa. Nebula, all gussied up, joins them and says that T'Challa looks pretty good to her.
T'Challa and Nebula grab a table to have a drink, and T'Challa suggests that she talk to her father, Thanos. Nebula refuses, figure that he hasn't changed, and asks if he's ever considered going back to Wakanda. T'Challa explains that Yondu tried to take him back when T'Challa was young, but Wakanda had been destroyed in a senseless war like Baba warned T'Challa about. Nebula figures that T'Challa saves homes because he lost his own, and tells him that she has a job for him.
Later, Nebula briefs the Ravagers on the Embers of Genesis, that can terraform entire ecosystems. With the Embers they could eradicate hunger across the galaxy. The Collector has the Embers, and he's the most ruthless kingpin in the intergalactic underworld. He took over when Thanos went straight. Yondu warns T'Challa that the mission is suicide, and says that the Ravagers aren't going.
T'Challa talks to Yondu privately and says that Ravagers don't back down from a fight. Yondu reluctantly gives in, and they go to the mining colony of Knowhere where the Collector has his base. The Black Order is working security for Collector, and Nebula and Yondu go in posing as sellers of the sphere. T'Challa is inside the case they're carrying, and Proxima Midnight is running security. She scans the case, while Korath and Thanos start a fight outside. The Black Guards check it out, including Midnight, while T'Challa emerges from the case and goes to search for the Embers. At least, that's the plan.
Nebula and Yondu get into to see Collector. Meanwhile, T'Challa searches the collection, which is bigger than he anticipated. He finds Howard the Duck and asks the captive if he knows where the Embers are. Howard can barely describe where they are verbally, and T'Challa shoots the lock off of his container and takes Howard with him.
The Ravagers fight their staged fight until Midnight, use an energy blast from her staff to paralyze them. She recognizes them and realizes that it's a diversion, and sounds the alarms.
Howard stops to get a drink, and the alarms go off and the doors seal off. T'Challa gets out just in time, and his necklace from Earth glows. A nearby Wakanda shuttle on display activates, and T'Challa boards it. There are dummies of Wakandan pilots onboard, and a hologram of Baba activates when T'Challa speaks.
Bama talks about how his son T'Challa was abducted, and asks for anyone with information about the boy's whereabouts should respond to the homing beacon. Baba then says that in case T'Challa is listening, that they will search every world until they find T'Challa.
Nebula comes in and holds a gun on T'Challa. Collector is with her, holding Yondu prisoner, and Nebula says that she owed Collector a debt and T'Challa was the payment.
T'Challa is tossed in a cell with the other prisoners, and Korath figures that T'Challa plans an escape Instead, T'Challa grabs Yondu and says that he lied to him about Wakanda's destruction. Yondu insists that he was protecting T'Challa, and T'Challa is just like him. T'Challa says that he's nothing like Yondu, and Yondu tells him that he's an explorer and the past is nothing but a prison. When Yondu says that the Ravagers are T'Challa's family, T'Challa tells him that the Ravagers aren't his family and never were.
Ebony Maw comes and takes T'Challa to Collector. Collector puts T'Challa in a containment cell and plans to use him to decorate a wall. Unimpressed, Collector tells his minions to dissect T'Challa.
Nebula goes to the Ravagers' cell, and she shoots Ebony Maw dead and says that she's there to rescue them. She explains that the entire thing was her plan, and she told T'Challa about it from the beginning. It was T'Challa's idea to keep them in the dark, because he knew Yondu would never let T'Challa walk into a trap, and T'Challa being captured gave her the opportunity to steal the Embers.
T'Challa uses his necklace to break out of the cell, and Carina turns against her superior and shoots him from behind. As T'Challa runs through the containment cells, Collector uses the weapons in the collection against T'Challa.
The Ravagers run with the Black Order following them, and Thanos tells the others to go on while he attacks their pursuers alone. Thanos fights the Black Order brawler, Black Dwarf, When Midnight joins the fight and wounds Thanos, Nebula turns to watch.
Collector tells T'Challa that his new family has abandoned him. Yondu returns and uses his arrow to knock off the helm that Collector is using. Collector grabs and snaps the arrow when Yondu sends it at him.
Midnight and Dwarf beat Thanos down, and Midnight prepares to kill him. Nebula arrives and shoots Midnight, and Dwarf grabs Nebula and she feeds him the Embers. They grow within him, and Thanos and Nebula run and jump aboard the Ravager ship just as it lifts off. Nebula figures that Yondu and T'Challa are doing fine.
Collector beats Yondu, until T'Challa joins the fight. Yondu gets close enough to Collector to steal his control bracelet, and T'Challa uses it to open a cell and knocks Collector inside, before sealing it shut. Collector vows to hunt them down, and they give the bracelet to Carina who uses it to free Collector's "collection". They're not happy with Collector.
T'Challa and Yondu fly out of Knowhere using the Wakandan shuttle, they head to the rendezvous to meet the others, and Yondu starts to apologize. His adopted son tells him that there's no need, because Yondu showed him the universe just like he wanted. T'Challa admits that he doesn't know where he belongs, and Yondu assures T'Challa that there's no place where he doesn't belong. He asks where T'Challa wants to be and brings up a hologram of Earth, and tells T'Challa to follow his heart.
The Ravagers go to Earth and Wakanda, and they go the throne room to meet Baba. T'Challa introduces his "family", and they have a celebration. Baba asks Yondu how T'Challa ended up with him, and T'Challa jumps in to say that he was lost and Yondu found him.
Peter Quill is working as a janitor at a Dairy Queen. As he cleans up after hours, Ego comes in and asks Peter if he can spare some time for his father.
