Architect Michael Borgmann finds a roughly 60 years old male skeleton in the Wismar inner city tenants residence he renovates luxuriously for owner Eugen Thaler, who can raise the rent a lot afterward. Thaler is found murdered at home the next day. Tenant Ricardo Nitsch bitterly lead the protests against the rent raise many, such as .dementing Eva Schleiermacher, who lives there all her life, can't afford, and 'needs' to wait for her fiance who never returned from World War II. Both cases ultimately link tragically.
