A real charmer
rklein1237 January 2023
This charmer is a short film about a young Brazilian man, César, who stops for a day in Tallinn, a city by the sea in Estonia, on his way to St. Petersburg, Russia.

In an otherwise empty coffee shop, he meets an Estonian man, Martin, who is a little tense. Nervous because he has to give a presentation later in the day. The two start to chat, first about what to see in the city.

Martin begins to relax in the company of the charming César, a street performer, who at one point casually discloses that he is gay. Martin casually mentions his girlfriend. But there seems to be an unspoken connection developing between the two.

Much is conveyed in the short run time of the film with subtle looks and changing seats to sit together. It's lovely to watch the progression and interactions .

The film is in B&W, which adds a nice overlay of atmosphere, as the camera cuts back and forth between the Brazilian going about his day, following the suggestions of the Estonian man, and scenes of their conversation at the coffee shop.

César will be taking a 1:30 am train to Russia.

Very nice acting, dialog, and camera work. The movie is partly in Portuguese with English subtitles, and partly in English.

It's charming - right up to the end credits.
