It left me feeling Meh...

The movie was good. You could tell the budget was very low, but they made due with what they had. The story starts with a store owner Moses. Trying to get a loan to expand his store. Without collateral it can't be given to him. So he goes back to his store where we meet two characters Sonny & Claire. Sonny is Moses's special helper around the store, and Claire is a young teacher who we find out soon in the movie is his daughter. We then come into a man who wants to go into business with Moses. Malik is his name & Islam is his game. I won't go too deep into that, but that is the setup for this movie. An everyday black man living his everyday life. Which soon get's turned upside down.

The setup, and follow through were pretty good. Nothing too action packed or fake. The acting was decent. All except a little kid who's role was small. Anyways the only problem I had with this movie was the ending. It made me feel like I wasted my time watching it. There was no closure what so ever.It kind of ended like The Sopranos. Not just cut to black, but to a city pan, and then to black. We never find out what becomes of Moses & Claire. Which to me was a huge disappointment.

To be honest the entire ending could have been done so much better. The setup for this movie was so great. I believe if the budget was bigger we could have really had an outstanding film. Given they change the ending... O shall I say actually give us one.

A Real Life Experience

This was a view of Oakaland, CA. as a day in the life.

This was not your everyday move, no matter what the title stands for. This was a story being brought to life from the view of the streets. The writer has written a story that is like breathing, staying in pace with what is real, what is life. There is detail, background, and timing that makes all the difference in Everyday Black Man. The visuals don't give you a false sense of a dirty community, but real life streets in Oakland. She has caught the feel, respect, & disrespect that is given and taken everyday.

Everyday Black Man is a touch of survival, caught in the movies.

Well, it was OK, but....

But a bit run of the mill, really.

I'm writing this straight after seeing the film.

Well enough cast and acted, script not too bad, but somehow it still comes across as a bit of a work in progress. A bit like a book published before the writer's quite ready, but the next one will be better.

The gradual suspense ramping up works well, I think it's the action at the end that's been toned down, and lets the film down in the long run. Moses' back story almost seems tagged on to allow the final scenes. Oh, I don't know. Am I being too harsh? It could just have been a bit tighter, is all, and the last minutes didn't quite work, in the light of all the good stuff that had gone before.

As I've been writing this, my vote has gone up from 5 to 7, so maybe it's sinking in. I still think the showdown needed better direction, but all in all, as I say, Carmen Madden will grow before the next one.

The title kinda told me watch me but don't at the same time, thinking it be your typical black/drug related type of movie. But then i watched it anyways , at the beginning i thou i was wrong and thou that it was not gonna be drug related.

Either way what kept me watching it was that i could see how a brother can get at another brother like that, i mean the whole movie twisted, the man that pretended to be someone to take advantage of the good man.

Its all a mess, i guess for the people that knows how things are u might say this isn't like reality, but close enough. but to the ones that don't know, just learn and watch.

To the director/writer i think it was great, i see its the first work u done? or at least what IMDb shows, so thumbs up! surprised it wasn't on the IFC channel thou.
