The streaming service is planning its first theatrical release after acquiring the British star’s feature directorial debut.
Prevenge will launch online and in New York and Los Angeles on March 24 shortly after its screening at SXSW.
Lowe stars in the story about a pregnant woman on a killing spree who is guided by her misanthropic unborn child.
Gemma Whelan, Kate Dickie and Jo Hartley round out the key cast on the film, which premiered in Venice and Toronto last year and earned Lowe a Bifa nomination for best directorial debut.
“I can’t think of a more perfect home for my other baby, Prevenge,” Lowe said. “As a dedicated and genuine horror film fan as well as a filmmaker, Shudder’s strong mission to showcase genres within horror made it the only choice for the film.”

Although the Netflix series Stranger Things has received more mainstream attention, the Syfy series Channel Zero is arguably more unsettling and less predictable, and executed with a more determined vision. Both shows suggest the increasing prominence of, for lack of a better term, “weird fiction” — stories that treat horror as a kind of […]...

Homefront: The Revolution released across North America earlier this week, and today, Deep Silver have confirmed that that expansion pass will contain single-player campaign add-ons, as well as two exclusive bonuses for use in the online co-op Resistance Mode.
The first two expansions – The Voice of Freedom and Aftermath – will add new districts and supposedly offer “several hours” of content on top of the 30-odd hour campaign from the base game. In a fairly standard release schedule, the third and largest expansion, titled Beyond the Walls, will be more substantial than the first two, and is expected to come out sometime in 2017.
While the schedule for these single-player expansions sounds encouraging, they’re qualified with a “currently planned” note which suggests Deep Silver may not be entirely confident in the future of their game at this stage.

A truncated stay has meant we haven’t been able to see as many competition titles here at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival as we would have liked, but we can say it got off to a very promising start with this small-scale serio-comic drama, the second feature from “Beyond the Walls” director David Lambert. From the potentially grim premise of a young Argentinian man in such dire straits and with such a lack of prospects that he offers himself via the internet to anyone who will send him a plane ticket, the film then spins off into surprisingly gentle, non-judgy, non-cautionary tale, albeit sprinkled with some fairly graphic sex scenes, mostly gay, occasionally straight. But “gay/straight” is misleading, contributing to a binary definition of sexuality that is at odds with the spectrum-based view the film takes of the matter, en route to becoming less an Lgbt issues...

Seven world premieres and five international premieres include an animated movie for the first time in competition; Us drama Low Down starring John Hawkes and Elle Fanning; and Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson’s follow-up to Either Way.
The 49th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 4-12) has revealed the line-ups for its Official Selection Competition, East of the West Competition, Documentary Films Competition and Forum of Independents Competition.
Kv artistic director Karel Och said: “This year’s selection of competing films offers an exciting mixture of outstanding films whose completion has been eagerly anticipated.
“Many of the filmmakers, who explore less frequently trodden paths of cinematic expression, come from the countries of the former Eastern Bloc, which the Kviff has long focused on.”
In the main festival section, renowned Georgian filmmaker George Ovashvili (The Other Bank) will introduce his long-anticipated film Corn Island, a psychological drama that uses captivating imagery and visuals to present a highly topical subject...

The box sets of three American TV dramas are great for those of us who crave bawdy fun, while Blinkbox threatens to upstage Netflix
I've never cared for the term "guilty pleasure", which ascribes an odd moral burden to honest fun, but it's how most would describe three gleefully salacious Us television dramas, all with new box sets out tomorrow, and all ones I've devoured while sensing that I'm supposed to be cracking on with Breaking Bad.
Revenge (Disney, 15) may be the least fashionable good series on TV right now. Pacing primly at the corner of Dynasty and Desperate Housewives, it's a knowingly ludicrous Hamptons-set mystery swaddled in bales of white linen – all the better to show up the blood. The second season finds knife-lipped Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) continuing in her quest to bring down the billionaire family that in turn brought down her late father. (For baffled newcomers,...

★★☆☆☆ Films such as Weekend (2012), Keep the Lights On (2012) and I Want your Love (2012) have all recently hinted at a fast-emerging new wave of queer cinema. All three films possess a naturalistic style and an interest in the routine aspects of gay relationships, embracing the real rather than relying on stereotypical representations and predictable plots. Showcased this year in Cannes (where Blue is the Warmest Colour, a study of first lesbian love, won the Palme d'Or), Belgian writer-director David Lambert's debut, Beyond the Walls (2012, Hors les murs), is currently riding that wave, though with mixed results.
This study of an intimate yet faltering relationship between two young Belgian musicians feels somewhat laboured and stilted, seeming to never quite succeed in conveying the emotional heft associated with the simple but promising premise of its love story. In a similar vein to some of its bedfellows, this love story begins in the...

Reclusive Romantics: Buschel’s Contained Character Study Shines Beyond The Walls
Location, location, location, that is essentially the most powerful cinematic tool in Noah Buschel’s latest static meditation about improbable love. An extremely minimalistic piece of indie filmmaking, Sparrows Dance utilizes every peculiarity about its setting and characters to make a feature-length offbeat romance out of what might have seem like very little on paper.
An unnamed woman (played delightfully by Marin Ireland) who lives by herself in a NYC apartment quickly reveals via her eccentric acts of self-reclusion that she is not fond of company. She orders food through the phone pretending she has someone else around as if ashamed of her voluntary isolation, and even demands the delivery guy takes the money and leaves the food by the door. One day the serendipitous malfunctioning of her toilet forces her to tone down her agoraphobic behavior in order...
