The anime adaptation of the popular【Oshi No Ko】manga series was one of the major hits of last season, and the series is still exceptionally popular, even though it is on a break. The aesthetics of the series were embraced by the fans, who loved the insight into the world of Japanese Idols, as well as some of the major mysteries from the series. On top of that, the music was truly great and so we were not surprised when【Oshi No Ko】was officially renewed for a second season. In light of that, Hidive has confirmed that the second season is coming sooner than expected, as a July 2024 premiere has officially been confirmed.
Hidive officially described the series as follows:
When a pregnant young starlet appears in Gorou Amemiya’s countryside medical clinic, the doctor takes it upon himself to safely (and secretly) deliver Ai Hoshino’s child...

Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow had been one of the primary faces of the MCU’s Infinity Saga. She amassed a huge fanbase for playing Black Widow. Now, it looks like the star is all set to join a new big-budget franchise, Jurassic World. According to the latest reports, the actress has been offered a role in the upcoming film in the franchise created by Gareth Edwards.
Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow
The fans were disheartened when Black Widow had an unfortunate end in Avengers: Endgame. The character made a massive contribution to Scarlett Johansson’s career. She also holds the record for being the second highest-grossing box office star of all time. If the reports are true and if she proceeds with the Jurassic World offer, then we may see her in another billion-dollar film franchise.

Take that, Golden Globes. Chelsea Handler did a masterful job hosting the 29th Annual Critics Choice Awards, nailing the jokes and showing she completely understood the assignment. Hosting for the second consecutive year, Handler kept the show on track and even called an audible late into the broadcast, bringing Barbie‘s Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie to the stage to accept the Best Comedy Movie award – one of a dozen not scheduled to be handed out on stage.
The acceptance speeches were heartfelt, lively, and memorable, and America Ferrera’s SeeHer acceptance speech will go down as one of the better speeches in Critics Choice Awards‘ history. Harrison Ford kept his Career Achievement Award acceptance speech short, recognizing the positive changes in the industry over his decades as an actor.

Last year, the plug was pulled on Aziz Ansari’s attempted directorial debut, Being Mortal. An incident occurred with Bill Murray allegedly inappropriately kissing and straddling a female member of the film crew. The Ghostbusters star was hit with sexual misconduct allegations during filming and, as a result, the studio behind it, Searchlight Pictures, pulled the plug with over 50% of the film already shot. Ansari was allowed to shop the film (and the footage) to other buyers, but in the end, there seemed to be no takers for what’s likely seen as a tainted project.
Wes Anderson, who worked with Bill Murray on nearly all his films, came to his defense and still stands by his friend. Anderson told IndieWire the incident will not deter him from working with Murray again. The Asteroid City director stated, “My experience with Bill is so extensive. Bill was such a great supporter...

I love going to the movies every year, but I really loved going to the movies this year. I saw Knock at the Cabin in Providence, I saw May December in Tallinn. I saw Enys Men in a small theater at Village East where it felt like everyone in the audience turned against the film but me. Somehow I liked Equalizer 3 despite loathing the other two. The worst movie I saw in theaters was Fast X, which I watched on an edible that put me to sleep during a set piece. I missed out on seeing Magic Mike’s Last Dance with some friends who wound up running into Christopher Nolan going to see Skinamarink. Depending on who you ask, the term “literary cinema” can have good or bad connotations. At worst it implies an over-reliance on handheld camera work, dull naturalism, and clumsy metaphors. While by no means a dreadful film, Anthony Chen’s The Breaking Ice certainly has those hang-ups in spades. In fact, I felt ready to deem it “Wistful Staring Set to Tinkly Music: The Movie.” Unfortunately, this all feels a bit like something that does more to give the appearance of a quiet, introspective character-driven drama without doing the hard work of giving its central three characters anything actually that interesting in terms of an arc or even melodramatic tension.

Fresh off his trip to “Asteroid City,” Wes Anderson is already back on the festival grind, bringing a new vision to Venice that plays, surprisingly enough, like “Anderson: Unplugged.” Naked and vulnerable in all the ways this year’s previous effort was girded by walls of remove, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” points towards a new and earnest direction for the idiosyncratic filmmaker – and if you believe that, hear me out about a bridge in Brooklyn that’s calling your name.
So yes, Anderson’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” does offer more of the same in a slightly smaller dose, promising the familiar delights of impeccable artifice and arch performers clearly having a ball, and giving Anderson-heads – of which I often count myself – something to look forward to once this 40-minute short hits Netflix later this month. But given the film’s abridged runtime and its genuine playfulness,...

Wes Anderson has always managed to conjure up so much joy and wonder in his films, from his early days to his most recent work. There’s always an element of childish imagination and wonder to his films that always helps you fall in love with the characters and the worlds. Beneath that style, however, has always been a maturity to his storytelling, a sense of heartache and subtle sadness that lingers through the colourful worlds. Asteroid City is like so much of Anderson’s previous work, it has the joy and wonder, it has the wonderful colour pallet and style we’ve come to expect and perhaps has deeper meanings and messages than in any of his previous work.

On a weekend like this one it’s easy to bury the positive news, so let’s start with the good stuff.
Three non-franchise original films, all budgeted under $50 million, saw credible results. Sony’s “No Hard Feelings” with Jennifer Lawrence, an R-rated comedy, did around 25 percent better than pre-release estimates. Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” (Focus) proved its opening platform weekend was no fluke with $9 million. And Celine Song’s “Past Lives” (A24), rolling out more slowly, is already at $3.5 million while in fewer than 300 theaters.
Add to those the continued strong performance of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (Sony), which is back at #1 and headed to a $375 million-$400 million domestic total (double 2018’s initial entry). Pixar’s “Elemental” saw a credible hold (-38 percent) to retain the #2 position. And “The Little Mermaid,” falling only 22 percent, is at $270 million domestic, while Disney’s “Boogeyman” (its fourth top 10 title) fell only 40 percent.

Focus Features expanded Asteroid City to the highest grossing weekend for a Wes Anderson Film with a projected three-day estimate of $9 million from 1,675 theaters – no. 6 at the domestic box office — pushing the film’s cume to $10.2 million. It opened last weekend in six locations.
Some 64% of moviegoers were 35 or younger. Males topped females by 66% to 44%.
New York was the biggest market — not highly unusual to have NY in the lead for an arthouse film, with LA a close second. Alamo Drafthouses turned in a hefty 8.8% share with over $16.3k per theater. Updated Saturday Pm: As of tonight, according to industry estimates, Sony Animation’s fourth weekend of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is ahead of Disney/Pixar’s second weekend of Elemental, $19.4 million to $18.3 million. This is after a $7.5M Saturday for Spidey, +32% over Friday, and a $7.1M Saturday for Elemental, +27% over Friday.
Still at a 38% ease, that’s not too shabby for Elemental. The previous Pixar misfire, Onward, didn’t get a full chance at a theatrical life as movie theaters closed down to due to Covid; the pic stalled at $61M stateside and jettisoned onto Disney+. Good Dinosaur, another Pixar dud, had a Thanksgiving launch back in 2015 with a $39.1M 3-day, -61% second weekend of $15.3M, and final domestic take of $123M. Who knows, maybe Elemental goes farther, especially as it looks to get a boost over the July 4th frame. Gross by Sunday looks to be $65.3M. Tonight’s...

If the eponymous mid-’50s southwestern town in Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” resembles the iconic “Bad Day at Black Rock” (1955), it’s no coincidence. Oscar-winning production designer Adam Stockhausen (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”) found John Sturges’ neo-Western, shot in CinemaScope on the edge of Death Valley, a valuable reference for planning the landscape for this Pirandello-like play-within-a-tv-show-within-a-movie conceit.
“Absolutely, that was an influence,” Stockhausen (“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”) told IndieWire. “We started right with the credits introduction with the moving train and then, of course, crossing with the little white sign. Generally, we were looking at ‘Black Rock’ for overall how the town’s [located] in the landscape. But also we’d go in and look at tiny details, too. How the tar paper was nailed to the roof of the gas station, and we ended up using it for the way we wrapped the tar paper around the motel cabins.

Already in limited release, Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” opens in a wider release this weekend, Friday, June 23. Essentially split into two parts, the film centers on a grieving father (Jason Schwartzman) who travels with his tech-obsessed family to a small rural ‘Asteroid City’ to compete in a junior stargazing event, only to have his perspective on life— his cosmology as it where— disrupted forever by world-altering events.

Wes Anderson is among the most creative directors out there, a true auteur with a distinctive style. His films, including The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Fantasic Mr Fox, are often quirky, color-drenched, full of cultural references and even whimsical but also deeply human. While not everyone loves their unique style, he has many fans, including this writer. Anderson’s last film, The French Dispatch, was an anthology inspired by the New Yorker magazine, and while Anderson’s newest, Asteroid City, is not an anthology, it’s a story-within-a-story format evokes some of that as does its deadpan off-kilter comedy – but here with an Atomic Age slant, of 1950s candy colors,...

In Wes Anderson‘s “Asteroid City,” a group of scientists, military personnel, and “Junior Stargazer” science students gather at a giant meteor crater for a ceremony honoring the kids’ inventions, only to see the celebration take an unexpected turn when an alien arrives. Although the story takes place in 1955 and deals with science fiction elements and then-futuristic technology, the methods used to bring Anderson’s world to life are drawn from even farther back in cinema history. “It was kind of going back to what the early pioneers of film did,” cinematographer Robert Yeoman told IndieWire. “They built sets [out in the sunlight] and just put diffusion cloth on top.”
For “Asteroid City,” this approach derived from the fact that Anderson wanted to use all natural light for the scenes in the desert town after which the movie is named. “I knew that inside locations like the diner would need light, so I just...

Maya Hawke has some thoughts about where her character might be going in Stranger Things.
Over the course of season four of Netflix’s hit sci-fi series, Hawke’s Robin Buckley was crushing on Hawkins High’s marching band clarinetist Vickie (Amybeth McNulty). In the season finale, the two ladies were seen making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for those who were displaced by Vecna’s earthquakes.
The final scene teased there could be a relationship between the two looming, and Hawke isn’t sure how she feels about that. “I don’t know,” the Asteroid City actress told Yahoo! Poker Face pulled off many things in its debut season. With its murder-mystery-of-the-week plot in a new spin on the detective genre, the Natasha Lyonne-starring Peacock series from Rian Johnson revived the concept of procedural television for streaming, saw Benjamin Bratt turn a catchy Blues Traveler song into a poetic monologue and recruited Star Wars legend Phil Tippett for one episode’s special effects. But perhaps most impressive, Poker Face assembled an eye-popping roster of guest stars.

Drew Hancock wrote the original script and is making his directorial debut with the feature, the many plot points of which are being kept hush-hush. It is, however, being described as self-contained, and Thatcher is set to play a character who is more than meets the eye.
Friend’s character information is being kept in the dark, but suffice it to say the actor won’t be living up to his last name.
Zach Cregger will produce the feature along with Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures.

Wes Anderson films have a unique look and tone. They are visually stunning with immaculate detail given to costumes and production design. That uniqueness extends to his dialogue, which demands something different from his actors.

The box-office weekend saw a major shakeup as four films debuted in the top ten, with one of those claiming the top spot as The Flash finished a solid $25.6 million ahead of the second-place film easily taking control of the weekend box office.
Bringing in $55.1 million over the course of its opening weekend, The Flash easily distanced itself from the rest of the pack to stand on top of the weekend box office. In a distant second place was Pixar’s Elemental, which debuted over the weekend with $29.5 million. Dropping from second to third place was the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with $27.8 million. This gives the film a three-week total of $280.4 million. Last weekend’s top film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts fell all the way to fourth place with $20.0 million in its second weekend in release, bringing its overall total to $100.6 million. Big news in specialty this weekend as Asteroid City arrives in theaters with Wes Anderson and his army of fans behind it and a major marketing campaign by Focus Features. The director’s latest opens at six locations in New York and Los Angeles, where Focus has partnered with Landmark for the reopening of Sunset, the five-screen theater it took over from AMC early this year.
Others are the Angelika, Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn and AMC Lincoln Square in New York, and AMC Century City and Burbank in LA. The film, which premiered in Cannes last month (see Deadline review), will expand to around 1,500 runs next week.
At Landmark Theatres’ Sunset, Asteroid City will take over the entire space for an exclusive two-week immersive experience. The pop-up opened to the public with preview screenings last night and all five screens at the theater will show the film for the entire first...
