When Byron and his mother pass the Hollywood sign, it should have read Hollywoodland. It was not changed to Hollywood until 1949.
When Pug uses the quote about owing God a death, this is in fact from Henry IV, Part 2, Act III, Scene ii, line 253, and the line is spoken by the character Francis Feeble - he admits to this debt, but is not keen on paying God before his time.
