December 2010 - Hal MacDermot
The depths of December and a frozen wood in the heart of the English countryside; acrid smoke drifts through the bare trees… could you dream of a better place to watch a running battle between a small band of military survivors and a horde of blood thirsty zombies?
The original Zombie Diaries was shot in a video diary style and told the interweaving stories of three groups of people in the immediate aftermath of a zombie virus apocalypse. It’s a great movie and was shot for zero budget. This time, with the help of producer Rob Weston (and those Weinstein chaps) there is more money and there are more zombies.
The film makers, however, have stayed true to their original guerrilla spirit, witness the fact that they recruited their zombie extras via Facebook, and also through an open casting call broadcast on local BBC TV news.

Touted as the UK’s answer to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Gnaw (just out on U.S. DVD from Dark Sky) shares many elements with its illustrious predecessor. Both feature a group of attractive teens intent on a relaxing vacation in the country. Both contain the horror-staple image of a girl running down a road with her attacker in hot pursuit. Both films’ villains are cannibalistic in nature. But while Gnaw works to follow these established rules, it also deviates frequently from the well-traveled path of its subgenre.
The setup is rather conventional: Six friends travel deep into the country for a little R&R, only to find themselves stalked by a lumbering, ominously large pitchfork-wielding maniac (Gary Faulkner). As if a Breakfast Club reunion were taking place, all stereotypes are present, with each actor playing their part to a T. We have the overbearing ice queen (Rachel Mitchem), the...

• Fango got the scoop on street dates for a trio of horror titles coming to DVD in late summer/fall. Dark Sky Films revealed when you’ll be able to pick up Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel’s fest-acclaimed Deadgirl and Gregory Mandry’s Brit shocker Gnaw, while Genius Products has announced its slot for Philippe Martinez’s The Chaos Experiment.
Deadgirl, which begins with a couple of teenaged guys discovering a naked, chained, apparently undead young woman in an abandoned mental facility—and one deciding to have his way with her—arrives September 15, while Gnaw, about vacationers who stumble upon a house full of cannibals (see previous item here), arrives August 11. Chaos Experiment, about a psychotic professor (Val Kilmer) attempting to prove his global-warming theories by imprisoning six people in a steam room (see first set report here), is coming August 4. Stay tuned for full disc details and cover art on all of these,...

Variety reports that Mpi Media has picked up U.S. rights to the British shocker Gnaw from Jinga Films. The film will presumably go out under the company’s genre banner, Dark Sky Films.
Directed by Gregory Mandry from a script by Michael Bell and Max Waller, Gnaw is a black-comic terror tale in which six travelers in the British countryside intrude on an apparently unoccupied house, and run afoul of a clan of cannibals who want to make the friends their next meal. The cast includes Sara Dylan, Oliver Lee Squires, Rachel Mitchem, Nigel Croft Adams, Julie Vandoome, Hiram Bleetman, Jennifer Wren, Carrie Cohen and Gary Faulkner. “This is British horror at its most base, vile and rude; fans will love it,” Mpi’s Greg Newman tells the trade. Gnaw is set to screen at Portugal’s prestigious Fantasporto festival, running February 20-March 1. You can see the movie’s...

Today is a good day for those of us who work in offices with very lax rules regarding what we can and cannot surf for during work hours. If you are a little unsure about what your boss thinks about torture porn and breasts, ya may wanna wait until you get home to see what awaits in the link below.
Gnaw, the Gregory Mandry directed U.K. cannibal flick, currently has a Nsfw trailer up and running via its official site. The gore isn't exactly explicit, but we do see a nice pair of bloody jugs and a few dismembered body parts.
In this dark, tongue in cheek, British Horror, six friends take a holiday in the heart of the English countryside which turns into a culinary nightmare when they discover that their hosts are a sadistic family of cannibals, set on turning their guests into their next meal!

It seems the witch from Hansel and Gretel has some competition coming out of the UK in the form of Gregory Mandry's Gnaw.
"Six young twenty something friends escape to the British countryside for a well earned weekend break. Their destination... Blackstock Farm. What could be better? A beautiful farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, endless woodland walks, mouth watering home cooked food, all laid on and lovingly prepared by their host, the kindly Mrs. Obadiah. But all is not what it seems... Lorrie receives a gift from her secret admirer, but just who is this mystery person, and what do they want from Lorrie? And when Jill searches for her missing boyfriend, the dream weekend fast becomes a nightmare when she discovers a strange building on the outskirts of the forest which holds a deep dark secret... It's nice to
have your friends for dinner..."
