Not the kind of band River City needs
bkoganbing25 August 2016
Michael Copon a former Power Ranger and Ryan Hansen formerly of Hansen are probably the only names you'll recognize from this rather dull and witless comedy about a football player who wants to start the first boy band.

That would be Copon who is the town golden boy as the quarterback of his team in the 80s, but when he confesses music and dance are his first love becomes a pariah even in his own family.

When the biggest joke in the film is a band mate doing number 2 in a strange toilet you know this film has problems.

Some of the music you might enjoy, the rest you can leave.

Feel good comedy

This is a feel-good movie with lots of laughs. A lot of energy, some "quirks" that kept you on your toes. I'm not up on the "teenaged" movies and so was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the actors, such as Micheal Copon -very professional. The Massachusetts accents were right on. The more well-seasoned actors, such as Ming Na, gave great performances of course. The authenticity of the '80's dress and music was superb! The dancing scenes were interspersed with awesome dancing and tricks (break dancing)as well as meant-to-be horrible hilarious dancing. The audience I saw it with was laughing quite loudly. I left smiling and knowing I enjoyed myself.

This was a very pleasant surprise. This movie was a dynamic combination of many of the great 80's movies paired with Glee, Napoleon Dynamite, etc. The movie was very funny from the beginning. It was a classic story of a football star leaving the team to start the first Boyband before New Kids On The Block. It was funny to see them try to invent a concept that hadn't been done before. The slapstick scenes were hilarious. One scene they broke into the head cheerleaders house to steal back a video tape. During which one of the guys decided it was a good time to "poop" in her bathroom. Of course she comes home, he can't get up... I was on the floor laughing. Then we get to the development of the Boyband. They started off and it they were not great, but they turned into a very good band. The singing, dancing, and break dancing was awesome. There is also a very talented young cast. This movie will blow out the box office if someone releases it across the country. A+ all the way. A Classic teenage movie for the 21st Century!
