Several of the Valley Girls from the original movie make cameo appearances: Deborah Foreman (Julie in the original) plays the "Shopgirl" who comments on the pink prom dress; Elizabeth "E.G." Daily (Loryn in the original) plays Mickey's mom; and Heidi Holicker (Stacey in the original) plays Mrs. H. (the woman at the pep rally who comments, "Check out that bod").
The younger version of Alicia Silverstone's character, Julie, says, "As If" in one scene in the movie. "As If" was Alicia Silverstone's character's catchphrase in Clueless.
The movie references Encino-born Sally Ride, who became the first American woman in space on June 18, 1983 as a crew member on Space Shuttle Challenger for STS-7. Julie and her father watch the shuttle launch on TV, which gives us a specific date as to when the movie takes place.
It was announced in April 2020 that this film would skip a typical theatrical run to head right to digital/VOD. This mainly seemed to be because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has closed movie theaters and sent most upcoming movies fleeing to different release dates. However, there is also one other element that could have contributed to Valley Girl's digital release: The presence of YouTube star Logan Paul. Valley Girl was originally supposed to be released on June 29, 2018, but controversies surrounding Paul led to the film being pulled from MGM's release calendar.
Was released three years after it was shot.
