Kiddy Grade is an oddly named 24-episode science fiction anime series created by gimik and Gonzo Digimation in 2002. It was directed by a third of gimik – Keiji Gotoh, who’s list of animation credits is as long as your arm, but includes such gems as Read or Die and Afro Samurai: Resurrection. The series found an American audience via FUNimation Entertainment, and was later re-released in 2007 on the big screen in Japan as three movies (Ignition, Maelstrom and Truth Dawn).
Kiddy Grade is set in a future where the human race inhabits many other planets in a universe where the Galactic Organization of Trade and Tariffs (Gott) are the Galactic Union police force. The protagonists of this anime are Éclair and Lumière, an Es team from the secret branch of the Gott known as the “Shadow Unit”, a group of superpowered elite enforcers.

Rotterdam in The Netherlands is blessed with several film festivals, the Iffr being the biggest, most prestigious and best known of the bunch. But if it is Japanese cinema in particular you're looking for, there is another festival which is at least as interesting: the Camera Japan festival. And they have just revealed their programme for this year's edition, starting in three weeks. The main theme this year is "Made In Japan", focusing on (co)productions with strong ties to outside Japan. Anything interesting to be shown? You bet, especially since the Iffr and Imagine Amsterdam weren't showing any anime this year. Check this out: Redline Afro Samurai: Resurrection Trigun: Badlands Rumble Time of Eve (the movie version of the series which was shown at...

Samuel L. Jackson has just confirmed that Afro Samurai is indeed going to be converted into a live action feature film with production set to start next year. The Indomina Group, a U.S. and Dominican Republic based production company, announced on Thursday that they are working with Jackson and Gonzo Studios on the project.
Jackson provided the voice for the main character in the 2007, 5 episode anime series Afro Samurai. He stayed on and provided his voice for the made-for-television sequel entitled Afro Samurai: Resurrection which made its debut in 2009.
Producers are hoping to have a screenwriter and director chosen by the end of the summer and the cast selected by the end of the year, with shooting expected to begin next year at the Pinewood Indomina Studios located in the Dominican Republic.

The property has already made a splash as a popular animated series, but now Gonzo Studios is teaming with The Indomina Group for a live-action adaptation of Afro Samurai with series voice talent Samuel L. Jackson stepping up to produce the adaptation of the 2007 animated series which also spawned a 2009 TV movie Afro Samurai: Resurrection. Meshing mind-bending hip-hop, Japanese culture and some truly killer action, the original series followed a black samurai's hunt for a man named Justice (voiced by Ron Perlman) who murdered his father. However, it's not clear if the live-action film will adapt the same story or not. No writer or director have been attached to the project yet, but producers hope to have one by the end of the summer with the cast rounded out by the end of the year to begin shooting sometime in 2012. As of now it sounds like Jackson isn't ...

Everyone who's seen his wallet knows Samuel L. Jackson is a Bad Mother F**ker, but to solidify that claim he helped combine two of the baddest ass things on the planet: afros and samurais. In collaboration with manga creator Takashi Okazaki and Gonzo Studios, Sammy J. brought "Afro Samurai" to Spike TV in 2007 to resounding acclaim.
After the initial 5-episode run of the unconventional anime, the title African-American swordsman was brought back for an Emmy-winning TV movie "Afro Samurai: Resurrection," which only left fans clamoring for more. Thus, the official site claims the original creative team is joining forces with the Dominican Republic-based Indomnia Group to create a live-action film.
So what can the uninitiated expect? A strange, anachronistic blend of modern and feudal Japanese environments, for one thing. The mega-ultra-super violent toon is distinctive for its mature themes, dope RZA soundtrack, and literal geysers of blood comin' out...

The Indomina Group, Samuel L. Jackson and Gonzo Studios are teaming to produce a live action film based on the popular “Afro Samurai” animated series.
The original manga followed the life of Afro Samurai who witnessed his father (owner of the No. 1 headband) being killed by the hands of a gunslinger named Justice (owner of the No. 2 headband) while he was a child. As an adult, Afro sets off to avenge his father's death and kill Justice.
The property was adapted into a five-episode anime TV series by Studio Gonzo in 2007, a TV movie sequel "Afro Samurai: Resurrection" in 2009, and a successful video game. Jackson lent his voice to the character in these works.
Jackson, Jasbinder Singh Mann and Shin Ishikawa will produce. A writer & director will be attached shortly and shooting will take place at Pinewood Indomina Studios in the Dominican Republic in 2012.

One of the biggest roles Samuel L. Jackson has had in the past ten years wasn’t in a film, but in the animated show Afro Samurai. The title itself tells you most of what you need to know about the series, which is based on a manga of the same name by Takashi Okazaki. Following a samurai who avenges the death of his father in a futuristic (yet feudal) Japan, it was made up of a five-episode miniseries, which also spawned the made-for-tv animated film, Afro Samurai: Resurrection.
Now, Variety says that Jackson wants to make a live-action adaptation of the property. He might not end up starring, although the actor is producing with Indomina Group’s Jasbinder Singh Mann, as is Shin Ishikawa of Gonzo Studios. While the project was just officially announced, it all seems to be developing rather quickly — the plan is to get a writer...

Fans of Samuel L. Jackson’s “Afro Samurai” rejoice — The Man has teamed up with The Indomina Group to bring you a live-action “Afro Samurai” film. The character originally surfaced in Takashi Okazaki’s manga series, before landing his own animated mini-series back in 2007 and moving on to an original movie called “Afro Samurai: Resurrection” in 2009. After that, what’s next except a live-action version? Said Jackson about the impending movie: This has been one of my very favorite properties ever since our amazing debut at Comic Con with the original series pilot out of Japan. I can’t wait to produce the epic feature film version with our new partners at The Indomina Group. The press release doesn’t really make clear if Jackson, who voiced the animated character, will also star, though it’s confirmed that he will produce. It's officially been announced that a live action adaptation of the animated series Afro Samurai is in development, and what makes this news even more awesome is the fact that Samuel L. Jackson is set to produce the film! It would be interesting to see who they end up getting to write, direct, and star in the film.
Indomina Films (True Legend) is the studio behind the project, and chances are it's going pot be awesome! Here's what Jackson had to say in a statement, “This has been one of my very favorite properties ever since our amazing debut at Comic Con with the original series pilot out of Japan. I can't wait to produce the epic feature film version with our new partners at The Indomina Group.”
A live action adaptation of this film was in development way back in 2008 with Andre 3000 set to star, obviously nothing happened with.

WWE Studios have announced the leading role debut of one of the biggest names in the WWE, Triple H. The wrestler, real name Paul Levesque, will join Kevin Corrigan, Ariel Winter and Annabeth Gish (one of my all-time favourite actresses), in the upcoming comedy, The Chaperone.
Triple H will play ex-con Ray Bradstone, a former getaway driver determined to turn his life around and establish a relationship with his estranged daughter Sally, in the film directed by Stephen Herek (Critters, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, The Mighty Ducks).
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m pretty interested to see The Chaperone. For one, Triple H can do comedy and action – we’ve seen that in the WWE; two it also stars Annabeth Gish; and three, it’s directed by Stephen Herek – who has made some damn fine comedies over the years.

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.

European Afro Samurai Fans rejoice! While the coolest and best hair-styled samurai of the last decade created by Takashi Okazaki has been available in high definition in the States for some time now, us Europeans were always locked out because of FUNimation’s strict region code policy.

The German market will be supplied with the DC of Season 1 and Resurrection by ufa Anime Universum Anime on July 31 2009.

Again, not much this week, but my favorite pick of all of 'em is Afro Samurai: Resurrection. While the beginning of the plot is a bit unbelievable (ok more then a bit) the whole thing is much better then it's predecessor with great beats again, courtesy of the Rza. Next is something we normally don't cover, Hollywood comedy in the form of Zack and Miri Make a Porno but it was funny, so bite me. Last off we have a low-budget z-grade post apocalyptic zombie flick we reported on a while ago called Sick and the Dead. So check after the break for all the goodies!
I'm lovin' it.

DVD Links: DVD News | Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed This week the releases are rather lackluster outside of one title I recommend all of you buy. However, there are some new release dates added at the bottom of the article you may be interested in, as well as a note from the Digital Bits giving us a few rumors saying Paramount plans on bringing the Indiana Jones Trilogy to Blu-ray release this holiday season and that DreamWorks will be delivering Collateral to Blu-ray in the next few months. Since I love Collateral this is exciting news and owning the actually good Indy films on Blu-ray will be a treat. Other than that, I give you the latest releases. Being There (Deluxe Edition) The only movie I would recommend everyone buy this week is Being There, a movie that proves Forrest Gump wasn't as amazing and original as everyone...

Afro Samurai (Samuel L. Jackson) avenged his father and found a life of peace. But the legendary master is forced back into the game by a beautiful and deadly woman from his past. The sparks of violence dropped along Afro’s bloody path now burn out of control – and nowhere are the flames of hatred more intense than in the eyes of Sio (Lucy Liu: Kill Bill). She won’t quit until Afro is schooled in the brutal lessons he dealt those who stood in his way. There’s no such thing as final vengeance. The cycle of bloodshed spinning around the Number One Headband must roll on. Featuring the voice of Mark Hamill (Star Wars) and fresh production from The RZA (Wu-Tang Clan)
The region 1 (north American) DVD and Blu-ray hit February 3, 2009 with a UK released penciled in for 27th April 2009.

Premiering on Spike TV on January 25th is the 2nd part of the Afro Samurai saga which we're all greatly looking forward too.. me especially because I'm a Huge Wu-Tang fan and love RZA who does the score for the series. We reproted on the first trailer last July and it's been a bit of a wait, but only 2 more days!
When Afro's father's body is stolen from its grave, Afro is forced to pick up his sword and wreak bloody vengeance against an army of deadly foes lead by a sadistic mastermind.

Samuel L. Jackson is just full of good news this week. The star of the upcoming graphic novel adaptation The Spirit is attending Comic Con in support of that flick (due out at Christmas), and there's news about another Afro Samurai project as well as a Nick Fury/Avengers update.
Ace Showbiz says that Jackson aims for us to see more of Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in all the upcoming Marvel movies, culminating in "the big one," as he calls it, 2011's The Avengers.
"Yeah, I'm looking forward to making that character a bit more integral, in terms of the other stories that are happening," says Jackson, who'll be in his early 60s by the time The Avengers gets here. "Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor, and hopefully the big one that's coming in 2011, when they put everybody together."
Apparently, Jackson's dying to start crankin' out the cameos,...
