Learn more- One "Dancing with the Stars" contestant already left this week, but would there be another? There'd been rumors all day that no one would go home this week, or that the previously eliminated Kim Kardashian would return as a result of Misty May-Treanor's departure from the show after she tore her Achilles tendon in rehearsal. Host Tom Bergeron's intro ominously failed to say that another star would go home, only saying, "What is the fate of the remaining stars?"
The highlight reel recap ended with Bergeron again mysteriously saying, "With the sudden departure of Misty, what will happen tonight?"
Misty's partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy decided to pay tribute to her by performing the jive they were going to do. Pro Edyta Sliwinska filled in for Misty.
The scoreboard review: Cloris' reaction to her 16: "We got a 16, and a 16 sucks." Rocco & Karina were "only going up" from 20. Cody & Julianne were happy with their 21. With 22 points each, Lance & Lacey and Toni & Alec were even keeled, while Maurice & Cheryl were giddy with 24 points. "Eight, eight, eight is always great," Maurice said. Warren & Kym's 25 was "halfway to 50," Warren said. Brooke & Derek was over the moon with their 28, which included a 10 from Len Goodman.
To the results: Again, without saying the lowest-scoring couple would go home, Bergeron carefully said, "Tonight, we'll reveal with the couple with the lowest total when we combined your votes with the judges' scores." The first two couples definitely safe, in no particular order, were Brooke & Derek and Cloris & Corky. "Clorky" made it to dance another day?! Again?!
Playing it Kool & the Gang: The legendary disco group Kool & the Gang performed a medley of their best-known hits. Following the performance, Bergeron said "For one couple, he says in a cool segue, tonight will not be a celebration." The Radio City Rockettes later stopped by to kick around the dance floor. Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson then paid a visit to perform a remix of her song "Spotlight" from her new self-titled album. "Dancing" siblings Derek and Julianne danced to Hudson's song.
One more safe: Bergeron announced that Maurice & Cheryl made it through for another week. Three safe, six left. Backstage, Cloris said some stuff about dark hair and blue eyes and, well, isn't it grand that Cloris will be around another week?!
MEDIC!: Bergeron and co-host Samantha Harris talked about the injuries that have happened on the show, which led into a feature about the bumps and bruises that happen during rehearsals and performances. Misty was the first performer who ever had to withdraw from the competition due to injury. "That's why I host, because there are very few hosting injuries," Bergeron said, "if you don't count the Emmys."
More results: Warren & Kym and Toni & Alec were the next two couples to be declared safe.
Then there were four...: Cody & Julianne, Rocco & Karina, Lance & Lacey, and Susan & Tony awaited their fate when Bergeron announced that no one would go home this night. "That much may not have surprised you," he said. But the judges' scores and votes would be added to what they get next week. For the first time ever, they would reveal the couple that would have gone home.
Len, asked whether he thought there was any chance Misty would have been in the bottom if she'd been able to dance Monday, said Misty "had the potential to get all the way to the final."
The next couple safe, in no particular order, was ... Susan & Tony, joined by Cody & Julianne. That left Rocco & Karina and Lance & Lacey.
The lowest-scoring couple was ... Rocco & Karina.
