Learn more- For the first time this season, Brooke & Derek headed into a results show without the lead on the judges' scoreboard. Lance & Lacey held the unfamiliar top spot, and Cloris & Corky were in a distant last place. But what did the voters decide to do?
Most of the dancers were fans of guest judge Michael Flatley, who offered up some of the higher scores of the evening, including a "10" for Brooke & Derek while Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli gave them 8's.
Conspicuously absent from the highlight reel of Monday night's performance was Carrie Ann's scathing commentary about Cloris, when she said, "we lost Toni Braxton for this, and that kind of makes me sad."
Play it again: Unfortunately, the judges decided to ask the entire group to do the hip-hop performance as an encore.
To the results: The first two couples sent to safety -- in no particular order -- were Lance & Lacey and Cody (& Julianne).
Child's play: In the dancing kids competition, Craig & Samantha (13 and 12), a brother and sister team from New Jersey sought to impress the judges with their cha cha cha. The judges absolutely hated it. Oh, c'mon. I'm kidding. They loved it, of course. Their competition were Simon & Lucy (both 13) from San Jose, Calif., who promised to cook up an amazing samba. The judges love them, too. But who did they love more? Craig & Samantha in a clean sweep.
Be our guest: Missy Elliott and the Pussycat Dolls teamed up to perform "Whatchu Think About That?"
Substitute dancer: Cody shared that Julianne was home after a successful surgery and was resting. He also welcomed his new partner, Edyta Sliwinska, who said she was happy to fill in but wishing Julianne a speedy recovery.
Back to the results: Warren & Kym were the next couple sent to safety.
'His legs move about as if independent of his body': Michael Flatley tap-danced on a platform in the middle of the dance floor. Flames soon erupted from the edges of the small platform and just as Michael jumped off of it at the end of the routine, it exploded. Whew!
To the results: With four couples remaining, Brooke & Derek were sent to safety along with Maurice & Cheryl, which left Susan & Tony "in jeopardy" alongside Cloris & Corky. They weren't necessarily in the bottom two.
The couple with the lowest combined total was ... Cloris & Corky.
She took a seat on the floor as Samantha and Tom asked her about the experience. "I'm not leaving," Cloris said. She promised to get a pretty costume and be back next week.
