Breaking the fourth wall: "so that's it? We're canceled?"
At the end of the episode when Alan and Denny are on the balcony, Alan tells Denny that Denny will probably outlive everyone and be on tv doing Priceline commercials. William Shatner is a spokesman for Priceline.
The showrunners were trying to get a spinoff made with most of the existing cast, and this episode was a back door pilot, with the news that the firm was bankrupt, and the inclusion of Melvin Palmer and Edwin Poole at the Thanksgiving dinner, who, it was hoped, would be part of any new show. Sadly, the spinoff did not come to fruition.
This is the only episode of Boston Legal where no actual legal work, such as court cases or litigation, takes place. Alan does start an argument amongst the guests at Shirley's dinner due to topical contentious issues.
