The best adaptation yet
Some of the special effects look dated for sure, but this is by far the best adaptation of the book.

Cheap
Although the storyline and dialogues of dune are followed very well, the cheapness of decors, clothing and styling makes it look like a 1970's dr Who epsiode. Acting is very variable, from good (Hurt) to very poor.
Ridiculous is the red (=evil) lighting of the Harkonnen scenes but in many other cases lighting is poor.
What is also missing the thoughts of the people. In the book, many vital clueas are given in what people think, which is written out. All this is left out which makes it as a whole more basic
So it all shows that it was made on a low budget, which doesn't do respect to the book

first steps
The simple reaction - mixed feelings. It seems more a nice try, not bad, but not always convincing. You feel the book more than you see its adaptation. Result - a sort of clash between good parts and not the most inspired ones. But, sure, it is the start. A decent one.
