In 2008, Warner Bros. filed a lawsuit against Mirchi Movies, the company of this movie, and demanded to stop the films release. Warner Bros. claimed that the title was similar to the Harry Potter series. Munish Purii, CEO of Mirchi Movies, explained that "Hari" is a common Indian name, "puttar" is the Punjabi word for "son" and that the main character has very little in common with Harry Potter. An Indian court dismissed the case later on, stating that the public would be able to tell both titles apart. On top of that, Warner Bros. already knew about this movie three years before the lawsuit, but didn't take any action until shortly before the movie was about to be released.
The film did not have a theatrical release in British Columbia,Canada.
