When sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby became widespread in 2014, this episode attracted considerable attention because of a phone call that Jack initiates in which Tracy confronts "Bill Cosby" (actually Rick from accounting, portrayed by Godfrey) and shouts, "You've got a lot of nerve getting on the phone with me after what you did to my Aunt Paulette!" In 2016, executive producer/showrunner Robert Carlock confirmed that this joke was not a coincidence and indeed referred to the allegations against Cosby, which had been rumored for some time.
In an homage to "30 Rock," the 15th episode of the third season of Parks and Recreation (2009) is also titled (The Bubble (2011)).
