- Vic's plan to play the Armenians against the Mexicans could backfire when the wrong man is targeted. Dutch plays hardball to get a witness to a homicide to step forward, and the mayor's new initiative to stop gang violence backfires.
- Previously on...: Vic was mad at Shane, who told him about the Armenians knowing about the money train robbery; Vic and Shane's wives realized they both knew a little but not enough; Vic tricked Pezuela into trusting him while Shane tricked the Armenians into trusting him. They'd all just "sit back and watch the gang war."
Memory Lane: Vic and Shane went back to threaten the Pezuela employee that Vic told Pezuela had turned on him. Vic wanted Shane to send the guy out of the country. Vic wouldn't tell Shane everything he wanted to know, telling Shane, "trusting you? I'm not there yet."
Straight to the top: Pezuela told Vic there was already a plan in motion to take down Rezian, who Pezuela believed had his secret files (which Vic actually stole and had hidden).
Number 1 with a bullet?: As part of an anti-gang initiative, the mayor released a list of the top 10 most wanted gangs in the city. Vic worried that it would get gangs to shoot for higher spots on the list. He predicted someone would make a killing within three hours to move on up.
A simple plan? Vic and Shane worried that Rezian's safety was the only thing keeping Vic's family safe. Vic told Shane to warn Rezian. Shane went to the county jail and warned him. Rezian said he'd better remain protected, because if anything happened to him, he'd already given the orders to kill Vic and Shane's families.
A body: An white businessman was shot at a gas station in what Vic called "gang central" and he assumed it was because of the top 10 list. He said the list was "like the standings in the sports section and every gang is making a playoff push." Ronnie started to partner with Vic, but Vic told him to ride with Julien so that he could ride with Shane and bring him up to speed. Ronnie looked a little taken aback by that, but Vic wanted to ask Shane about Rezian's reaction. Shane told Vic Rezian threatened their families if anything happened to him.
Vic and Shane visited a gang member named Moses who was angry that the cops had already come through and trashed his house while asking about the gas station murder. Moses said he was "good with" his gang coming in at Number 5 on the top 10 list. He suggested another gang, Spook Street, might have done the murder because it didn't make the list. Vic asked Moses to have some of his "soldiers" in the county jail watch over Rezian and Moses said he'd think about it, depending on how the gas station murder investigation turned out and kept him and his gang clear.
Chip off the block: Dutch and Billings showed up at a scene where a woman was killed when a cinderblock fell on her, but her friend said it was intentional. They were in a band that rehearsed next door and the neighbors didn't like the noise. Danny got a little excited while clearing the apartment building, pulling her gun on a man who was grabbing a shirt from behind a door.
Spook Street: Vic and Shane brought in a guy from the Spook Street gang who, despite their efforts to goad him into a confession, came clean and swore that he didn't shoot the man and didn't know who did.
Meanwhile, back at the cinderblock death, Dutch struggled to get Billings to do any actual investigative work and Billings mocked Dutch for his effort and lack of results. Dutch threatened to bring in the three dozen, or so, witnesses who'd all refused to say anything about what had happened.
More bodies: Two more people were found dead -- visitors from Colorado, in town for a college graduation. An old woman with a walker came to the cops and said she'd seen what happened. She got yelled ay by a younger girl, calling her a snitch, but the old lady didn't relent. After 40 years in the neighborhood, she said, she'd seen enough. She said the killers were 13 or 14, "babies on bicycles," wearing gray doo-rags. Spook Street colors, Vic said. Vic and Shane went back to Moses, the gang member, and told him to get in touch with his boys in county so they could protect Rezian.
Family matters: Corrine came to the station and asked Vic why he had someone watching and following them. She told Vic she knew about the Armenians. She wanted to go to Connecticut, but Vic wanted her to stay nearby so he could protect them.
Meanwhile, Vic's daughter came to Billings in the station and said she wanted to report a crime committed by her father.
Terrorists go street level: Vic went into a meeting with Wyms to find out that there was a belief that Al-Qaeda might be behind the killings, teaming with the Spook Street gang. He scoffed. Homeland Security took over the investigation.
Vic told Lamar, the Spook Street guy who said he didn't kill anyone, that the Feds were on the way. Lamar said he'd made a joke about telling his soldiers to say they were from Al-Qaeda.
Witness tampering?: Shane went to the county jail to talk to Rezian's bookkeeper, who was about to testify against Rezian. Shane promised the man that he and his family would be safe despite his testifying. Shane was trying to make the guy nervous, and it wasn't clear whether it worked.
Wyms called Shane into her office and asked about his discussion with the witness. She told him that the bookkeeper has recanted his story. Wyms said she hadn't figured out why Shane would want the case to fizzle.
Danny and Tina got into a bit of a fight about the earlier incident with the gun and Danny also mentioned that she thought Tina had failed to clear the armory in last week's episode.
Claiming the murders: Vic and Ronnie found a kid at a barber shop who took the credit for the spate of murders, thinking it would enhance his street cred. As more arrests were made, the suspects and their friends and neighbors chanted "Spook Street."
Back at the Barn: Billings discreetly came up to Vic and told him that his daughter, Cassie, made some "pretty crazy claims" including that he's assaulted Shane's wife.
Dutch admitted to Wyms that Billings got under his skin during the case. Dutch confronted Billings, but Billings said that all he wanted was a little respect for his hard work. Then he had a moment of clarity, thinking that the residents of the apartment building where the cinderblock killing had happened were protecting the manager of the property. They questioned him. After catching him in some lies, they figured out that he killed the woman even though he didn't mean to.
The kid arrested for the murders had a racially heated confrontation with Wyms that later came up in a complaint that claimed she'd used a racist slur against the suspect.
Have a nice trip: Shane and Vic sent Pezuela's ex-employee to Mexico and hoped that Moses would protect Rezian. Shane asked Vic if they were on the road to being "cool." Vic got upset that Shane's wife had talked to Corrine, and said he doesn't owe Shane anything. Shane got an urgent phone call and we next saw Shane at the county jail talking to Rezian, whose neck was bandaged. Moses' guys did protect Rezian and stop the hit from being completed, which Shane told Rezian it should that he's the only friend Rezian can trust.
Vic talked to Pezuela and told him the ex-employee took off and that his hit on Rezian failed. Vic said he could help, but wanted "tenure." He demanded $10,000 a week from Pezuela to serve as his "one-man demolition crew."
