A while ago I reviewed a show called Home Game, which shined a light on the many local sports which people not of that country would not be aware of. This series, We Are The Champions, is somewhat similar – although it is not focused on hyperlocal sports but instead international events that people may not be aware of. I appreciate any show that helps to showcase a sport, business, career etc., as it can only draw more fans and bigger audience which is fantastic. Shows like this are so important as it allows more people to follow these sports and, in turn, bring in more revenue to benefit the sport in question. Subjectively, there need to be more shows that promote unknown subjects and so my review will be the method in which this show, in particular, does this.
The opening moments of the opening episode were fantastic. I enjoyed...

Exclusive: Netflix has won a competitive auction for rights to feel-good rom-com Lost Dog: A Love Story, an adaptation of Brit journalist Kate Spicer’s memoir of the same name.
Former New Line exec Lynn Harris is producing with her Weimaraner Republic partner Matti Leshem (The Shallows). Bash Doran, whose credits include Netflix’s Outlaw King, Channel4 and Netflix series Traitors and Hulu’s The Looming Tower, is attached to adapt.
The plot will follow a down-on-her-luck woman who searches the streets of London for the rescue dog that saved her life.
Spicer’s memoir charts how she was a middle aged woman trying to steer some order into a life that was going off the rails until a shabby rescue dog saved her from herself. When the dog disappeared she beat the streets of London in search of the pet. Along the way, she made allies including psychics, bloggers and mysterious midnight joggers.

In these sports-starved times when we're all standing as attentive as meerkats awaiting Game Day — any Game Day— Netflix is offering two shows featuring international sports that will temporarily quench our competitive thirst. Home Game and Magnetic not only present a variety of sports to entertain us, but each also attempts to make universal observations about the nature of sports and the soul of the athlete, with mixed results.
Each of Home Game's eight half-hour episodes focuses on one sport that appears unusual to the average American but is hugely popular in its native country. The show could ...

Home Game is a Netflix original series that raises awareness of country-specific games that are not too popular in mainstream culture, as well as discussing the rules and its players. One of the most fantastic things about this series is that when the players are interviewed they talk in the national language of the country the sport is from; maintaining the key cultural aspects of the sport involved and helps truly keep the sport deeply embedded in the country it is from.
The show has clearly researched these sports themselves but also the places they originated in and so it is respectful to the cultures being discussed. Home Game interviews players of the game the episode is discussing, with interviewees using their native language. This does allow for a deep understanding of the game and cultures, although at certain points this moves the focus off the game itself and onto...

With June already being such an exceptional month for Netflix subscribers, it’s just icing on the cake to keep getting even more new stuff to watch while most of us are stuck inside. This month’s already impressive list of new additions like Inside Man, V for Vendetta, The Silence of the Lambs and E.T. the Extraterrestrial will be joined now by two new movies and three new shows. They aren’t all winners, of course, but there are a few pieces of content you might want to check out over the weekend.
Most notably, Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams star in the ridiculously long-named Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, and you can rest assured that the film itself is every bit as bonkers as its outrageous title. Eurovision Song Contest tells the story of two Icelandic singers who get an opportunity to represent their country in the titular contest.
