- A change of command on HMAS Hammersley results in divided loyalties and the humiliation of the ship's most senior female officer. After a dangerous departure from Samaru, Commander Mike Flynn is recovering in hospital.
- LCDR Jack Freeman takes over as the Hammersley's new CO as Mike Flynn recovers in hospital. Freeman turns out to be very unpredictable and loses no opportunity to humiliate Kate at every turn. Meanwhile, at the hospital Mike realizes that the Russian man, Franz Szapolyai, who stabbed Charge is hospitalized in the next room to Mike. Mike befriends him and shortly after making a phone call to an unknown number he has a cardiac arrest and dies. He begins to suspect that Ray Walsman has something to do with his death as he turned up at the hospital at the same time as Franz's death on the pretense of seeing Mike but Mike hadn't told him he was in hospital.—Anonymous
- Captain Flynn reluctantly remains in hospital, pressed by commander Steve Marshall to decide about applying for promotion while he still considers Walsman's job offer. He decides to remain in the Navy after the suspicious death, apparently poisoned in the same hospital, of Charge's attacker Franz Szapolyai, just after a visit to Flynn (?) from Walsman. Meanwhile the Hammersley crew is surprised by the behavior of Mike's temporary, possibly even permanent replacement as captain, Jack Freeman, who exposes especially XO's incompetence but also becomes the object of justified doubts about his own mental condition.—KGF Vissers
- With Mike injured in hospital, the Hammersley gets a brilliant but unpredictable new CO. Mutiny is in the air when the new CO humiliates Kate, and risks the safety of the boat. Mike suspects Ray Walsman is involved in the murder of a Russian mercenary.
