- [first lines]
- Tamang, Bir Bahadur: [Nepalese, subtitles read] Today we've left the village to go for foreign country. We carry the earthgod, the villagegod and the housegod in our body. Our Family is sad in their hearts. We are not sad, our wives are at home. Maybe they worry, where we may reach, what may happen to us. We feel good.
- Tamang, Jid Bahadur: I know nothing of the world. We will see villages, valleys, mountains, rivers. There will be the same everywhere but we don't know in our hearts. This place in Nepal, where we were born, is a satisfying place. If we find it unsatisfying after our return, we should not leave it. Today we were offered garlands and flowers around our neck. This is our language, it is for our reputation. It also means, we shall not leave our village for ever. We shall come back to the village soon.
- [viewing Vienna from the Ferris wheel]
- Tamang, Bir Bahadur: There is no bigger city than this! Look to this side.
- Tamang, Jid Bahadur: Look to the other direction!
- Tamang, Bir Bahadur: I did see. We see the paradise.
- Tamang, Bir Bahadur: Earth means woman. We men are the sky, we reach everywhere. The house belongs to the woman, the water belongs to the woman... There is a saying, women have no clan and men have no home. Woman means house, man means foreign land.
- Tamang, Bir Bahadur: [visiting a slaughterhouse] I have seen these things. But what I feel in my heart. People say "bad ghost". But it isn't the ghost, man himself is the bad ghost. What I see: man is the bad ghost. I think man is a demon and man is also god. Man is a demon. This is exactly how it is! Because man is the demon, man became the king of the demons. Before there were many animals. Now there isn't even one. They all have been killed. They did it and we ate of it. The men are the demons.
