Jimmy Fallon has renewed his deal with NBCUniversal, holding onto his position as the host of “The Tonight Show” through 2028.
The extension comes just after Fallon’s 10-year anniversary on the show, which NBC celebrated with a two-hour primetime special on May 14.
Fallon has been an NBC mainstay since 1998, when he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” He remained on the late night sketch show for six seasons, hosting “Weekend Update” alongside Tina Fey from 2000 to 2004, at which point he left the show to pursue a film career. He returned to the network in 2009, succeeding Conan O’Brien as the host of “Late Night” until 2014 before moving to “The Tonight Show,” succeeding Jay Leno.
Also on NBC, Fallon hosts the game show “That’s My Jam” and executive produces and serves as a panelist on “Password,” hosted by Keke Palmer.

NBC has now locked in both of its late night hosts for several more years.
Jimmy Fallon has renewed his deal with NBCUniversal, which will keep him hosting The Tonight Show through 2028. Fallon’s renewal comes a month after Seth Meyers re-upped at NBC, keeping him at Late Night for four more years. Both hosts recently passed the 10-year mark at their respective shows.
“For nearly 30 years, Jimmy Fallon has brought laughter into the homes of millions and charmed audiences from the stages of 30 Rock,” said NBCUniversal Media Group chairman Mark Lazarus in a statement. “It’s been a privilege to witness Jimmy at the helm of the The Tonight Show, and we’re thrilled to see what innovations he and the incredible staff will deliver in the years to come at the network.”

Ever want to go day drinking with living comedy legend Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Now you can live vicariously through Seth Meyers thanks to a brand-new video from Late Night.
Following in the tradition of Meyers’ boozy day hangs with stars like Lizzo, Kristen Stewart and Will Forte, it didn’t take long for Veep‘s Louis-Dreyfus (who was promoting her new film Tuesday) to declare that the show was “a terrible idea.” Meyers promptly chugged their very first cocktail: a Julia Louis-Dry Martini. “Are you out of your mind?” she asked — the first of many, many questions she had throughout the 16-minute video.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was the latest celebrity to take part in Seth Meyers‘ semi-regular Late Night segment “Day Drinking,” and it only took her one sip of a dirty martini to realize, “This show is a terrible idea.” The multi-time Emmy-winning actress appeared on the show to promote her new movie Tuesday, but by the end of the segment, she was spilling her guts, revealing her favorite Weekend Update host and whether she would call Jerry Seinfeld or Larry David if she ended up in prison. Things kicked off with a Veep-themed round of drinks inspired by Louis-Dreyfus’ time as Vice President Selina Meyer on the hit HBO comedy series. This included a Norman Rockefeller (ruby port and Goldschläger), a Harry Truman (two Jägerbombs dropped into beer), and a Dick Cheney, which was just a shot. “Because he shot somebody in the face?” Louis-Dreyfus said. “He did,” Meyers replied. “And then we look back on it.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus joined Seth Meyers for several rounds on his “Day Drinking” segment, leading the actress to immediately proclaim, “This show is a terrible idea.” In the late-night show clip, filmed at The Dawson in Manhattan, the pair kicked things off with a Julia Louis-Dry Martini.

Ego Nwodim just completed her sixth season as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” so what is it that keeps her coming back year after year to NBC’s sketch comedy series? “For me, what is so special about the show is the unpredictability of every week … and that keeps the excitement and the fun alive,” she tells us. “You can never really find yourself in a routine or rut, because it resets every single week, and that’s really special about the show. I don’t know that there are many other jobs like that, certainly not as a performer in the same way.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Saturday Night Live’s 49th season cast consisted of 12 repertory performers and five featured players who were each seen on screen for an average of one hour, 20 minutes and 19 seconds. Some successfully or very nearly clocked in beyond two hours, while others fell short of reaching the one-hour mark. Scroll down to see how all 17 regulars (plus the three members of Please Don’t Destroy) stack up against each other.
A reminder: LateNighter’s screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Spike Feresten got his start in comedy while working as a receptionist at Saturday Night Live, where he began submitting jokes to then “Weekend Update” anchor Dennis Miller. Before long, as many as five of his jokes were making it to air in a given week.
From there he was hired as a staff writer on Letterman, then Seinfeld (we have Feresten to thank for “The Soup Nazi” and “Little Kicks”), and then ABC’s legendary Dana Carvey Show, where his colleagues included Robert Smigel, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, and Louis C.K.
But among comedy nerds, he may be most revered for hosting his own talk show, Talkshow With Spike Feresten, which aired Saturday nights on Fox from 2006-2009. The show holds the record as the Fox Network’s longest-running late-night show, and as Feresten reveals to LateNighter’s Mark Malkoff, it would have continued longer had he not made...

Updated, 4:15 Pm: Something called “Sky” that sounds a lot like Scarlett Johansson’s voice no longer is on OpenAI, but the Her star says there’s a lot more behind the story.
For one thing, she maintains that OpenAI founder Sam Altman was advised of the actor’s objections to the voice feature but still pushed forward with the update.
Hours after OpenAI dropped the interactive “Sky” voice, one of five in its ChatGPT update, Johansson put out a statement in her own voice, literally and figuratively. It details her account of events, in which Altman sought permission to use her tones, got rejected, but moved ahead anyway – at least until lawyers were called in.
Here is Johansson’s full statement:
Last September, I received an offer from Sam Altman, who wanted to hire me to voice the current ChatGPT 4.0 system. He told me that he felt that by my voicing the system,...

OpenAI is pausing the use of a voice named Sky that is part of a new demo of ChatGPT 4.0’s Voice Mode. The emotive voice has been called out for sounding a little too similar to Scarlett Johansson’s A.I. character from the 2013 Spike Jonze film Her, and Johansson herself has now stated she is “shocked, angered and in disbelief” that the tech company would use “a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine” — especially after she declined their offer to hire her to be the voice.
Saturday Night Live highlighted the Johansson similarity during its Season 49 finale Saturday.

Michael Che wasn’t lying when he said that the woman he introduced as “Rabbi Jill” on this week’s Saturday Night Live is a real Rabbi.
In what’s become a tradition on SNL’s Weekend Update, Colin Jost and Michael Che participated in a “Joke Swap” for the show’s Season 49 finale, where the two comics read distasteful jokes the other has written for them, sight unseen. As part of the duo’s last Joke Swap in December 2023, Che brought out a woman he introduced as a civil rights leader before having Jost read a series of racist jokes. That woman, it turned out, was an actress.

There are a plenty of longtime Saturday Night cast members, yet there were no big exits — or hints of departures — on tonight’s Season 49 finale of the venerable NBC late-night program.
No SNL veterans were tearing up at the end of their sketches like Kate McKinnon did in the 2022 finale, it was all smiles and fist bumps at the curtain call, and, after another brutal joke swap, Colin Jost and Michael Che wrapped their 10th season together on Weekend Update by wishing everyone a great summer.
This was to be expected, given that no one from this year’s 17-strong troupe would willingly miss next year’s big celebrations – The Big 50.
Host Jake Gyllenhaal set the stage for what is to come in his opening monologue, noting that the finale was “the last episode before the big anniversary season.”

Seth Meyers has got plenty more “A Closer Look”s coming. The SNL star-turned-late-night-talk-show-host has signed on to stay seated behind the desk of NBC’s Late Night through 2028.
NBCUniversal just announced the show’s renewal, alongside news that Meyers’ production company, Sethmaker Shoemeyers, has also extended its contract to continue creating content across the network’s many platforms.
Meyers has spent the bulk of his career working within 30 Rock. The comedian joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001, and was promoted to writing supervisor four years later. In 2005, Meyers began serving as SNL’s co-head writer alongside Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. When Fey departed the legendary sketch series in 2006, he took over her spot on “Weekend Update” and served as the show’s sole head writer for the next season.

Following a week dominated by resurfaced revelations about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s brain worm, the parasite itself made a guest appearance during Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update.
The worm — played by Sarah Sherman — first talked about what drew it to Rfk Jr.’s brain. “Look at this guy, what worm wouldn’t love this? Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment leaned into the brain worm that U.S. presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said got into his head.
Sarah Sherman had the honors of dressing up as a worm and took a jab at Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval, who became known as “the worm with a mustache” after co-star James Kennedy yelled that out during the Season 10 reunion.
“Rfk’s body was a worm’s paradise,” Sherman said as the brain worm. “Not a single drop of vaccine in sight. My whole parasite posse hung out in there. Shoutout to hookworm… that fish that swims up your pee stream and my man, Tom Sandoval.”
Sandoval remains in infamy after his cheating scandal exploded into the mainstream. The Bravo star had been in an almost decade-long relationship with co-star Ariana Madix and was exposed to be having an affair with another co-star,...

Sandoval remains in infamy after his cheating scandal exploded into the mainstream. The Bravo star had been in an almost decade-long relationship with co-star Ariana Madix and was exposed to be having an affair with another co-star,...

It was all about mothers at the top of this week’s pre-Mother’s Day Saturday Night Live.
The variety show dispensed with its typical topical cold open for one that featured SNL castmembers sharing moments with their moms.
Kenan Thompson kicked off the show, appearing on the Studio 8H stage with his mom because, he said, “it’s “Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” which, she declared, meant there was still “plenty of time to buy a gift.”
“With so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from a regular cold open and hear some heartwarming stories from our moms instead.”
Still Thompson’s mom said she wanted to see who would play Stormy Daniels in a cold open focused on the porn star’s testimony in former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial. That wasn’t the only reference to...

Jerry Seinfeld Talks Press Overload on SNL’s Weekend Update Jerry Seinfeld, appearing almost disoriented from a demanding press schedule, made a memorable drop-in at Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment. Is this a podcast? he quipped, engaging the audience with his signature comedic timing. The publisher behind Kristi Noem’s new political memoir, No Going Back, may be wishing they could take it all back.
On Monday, Noem again ducked questions about her claims of meeting North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, once again refusing to discuss her interactions with world leaders when questioned by a panel on CBS Mornings.
“Did you tell your ghostwriter to write that?” host Natalie Morales asked.

On “SNL,” a Weekend Update segment playfully poked fun at 20-year-old singer JoJo Siwa’s transformation into an edgier and more adult persona.

Jerry Seinfeld crashed Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment, and Colin Jost introduced him as “a man who did too much press.”
The Seinfeld star has been on a press tour promoting his Netflix movie Unfrosted, which he directed and stars in.
Seinfeld came to the Update desk, not knowing where he was, asking if it was a podcast. Jost pointed out that the actor was even on The Rich Eisen Show, something Seinfeld had forgotten he had been on.
“I like Rich Eisen, I find him accessible,” the comedian said.
Jost asked Seinfeld how someone might know if they’re doing excessive press with the actor saying, “That’s the thing. You don’t know until someone who cares about you shows you a video package and you see yourself with these people with these names… Hoda, Maraca, Chanel, Vlad…”

Saturday Night Live‘s latest cold open centered on Columbia University’s handling of the pro-Palestinian protests on campus amid the Israel–Hamas war.
During the sketch, Mikey Day, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner played concerned parents of students participating in the protests.
Last week, hundreds of demonstrators were arrested after the school’s president called the New York Police Department to help restore order on campus. Police cleared the university’s Hamilton Hall after protesters occupied the administration building earlier in the day.
After being asked their thoughts on the protests, Gardner initially responded, “It’s been tough. Now, I’m all for free speech, but I don’t understand what they think they’re accomplishing and that’s really putting a strain on me and my daughter’s relationship.”
Thompson later shared his thoughts: “Nothing makes me prouder than young people using their voices to fight for what they believe in.

Jimmy Failla isn’t taking over Fox News Chanel, but he has, at least for one short period in the late afternoon, seized control of a portion of its New York ground-floor facilities.
The space is typically devoted to a space for guests to hang out and a section for hair and makeup, but Failla uses it to get himself revved up to tape “Fox News Saturday Night,” a program the network says is devoted less to red-versus-blue rants and more to making people laugh. The hallway leading to his studio was flooded with the sounds of rockabilly and Queen.

Donald Trump’s reaction to last night’s White House Correspondents Dinner shows the much-indicted ex-potus still sucks at being the butt of a joke.
Hours after President Joe Biden and Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost unleashed an arsenal of zingers against Trump from the head table of the 2024 Whcd, the presumptive GOP nominee took to his Truth Social to hit back.
Sure, Trump bucked the consensus and declared the Weekend Update co-host “bombed” and the current occupant of the Oval Office “was an absolute disaster.” But Trump’s 1:05 a.m. Et posting was much more succinct than usual and a whole lamer than past rebuttals, and received a sad number of likes – as you can see below:

The chants and shouts of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the entry to the Washington Hilton for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but once inside, attendees were greeted with what has become the usual scene: Celebrities on the red carpet, a crush for the security line and glitterati packed into a cavernous ballroom.

The annual White House Correspondents Dinner may be dubbed the inside-the-beltway “Nerd Prom” in some circles. Still, this year’s soirée, which took place on Saturday night at the Washington Hilton, was the hottest ticket in the nation’s capital — maybe the entire nation — as President Joe Biden and the First Lady sat alongside the Hollywood elite and senior government officials mingled with actors, rappers and rockers.
They were all gathered to toast free speech and watch the president and Saturday Night Live Colin Jost roast Donald Trump, the state of the media, and in a common theme of the night, the commander-in-chief’s age.
Before the event began, hundreds of protesters had gathered outside the Hilton in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington to confront attendees and encourage journalists to boycott the event. “Saturday Night Live” comedian Colin Jost delivered a mixed bag of Trump zingers, media jokes and Biden age wisecracks in front of a demanding crowd Saturday at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, but it took him until the last of his remarks to fully charm the assemblage of journalists and politicos who came to hear him roast the President and the Washington press corps.
Jost finished his remarks by telling President Joe Biden about his 95-year-old grandfather, a longtime fireman in Staten Island, N.Y, who voted Democrat in the 2020 presidential election even though that borough of New York City is known to favor Republicans.
“He voted for you, and the reason that he voted for you is because you’re a decent man,” Jost told Biden. “My grandpa voted for decency and decency is why we’re all here tonight.

It’s a long-standing love/hate relationship: Late-night TV and the White House Correspondents Dinner. It’s love because the reporters want to juice the event with laughs; but the romance sometimes goes sour because they often have trouble deciding: “Is that funny?”
The result? Whichever late-night star accepts the invitation to interrupt the din of political chatter and networking to deliver an array of topical jokes to a massive ballroom with poor acoustics and occasional clattering tableware is going to be hyper-aware that killing in this venue may refer not just to your act but also to your career.
So: Welcome Colin Jost!
For sure, the co-anchor of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” is a totally logical choice, and his performance on this live Saturday night stage is something to look forward to. Jost brings not only skill at landing potent political jokes with deadpan style, but also plenty of personal charm,...

When someone drops an F-bomb on Saturday Night Live, it’s generally pretty newsworthy. But for some viewers, “the ‘Gd’ term” is equally offensive.
That’s the lesson Brooke Germain, an editor at The Nevada Sagebrush, learned when she filed a Freedom of Information Act request to receive all complaints that the FCC had received about SNL going back to the start of 2023. She has since posted the full file to the public records platform MuckRock—and, well, there’s a common theme.
In January of 2023, Colin Jost joked on “Weekend Update” that while Joe Biden and Donald Trump were embroiled in very different classified document scandals, both “made Hillary Clinton want to blow her Goddamn brains out.”
A viewer from Cumming, Georgia, emailed the FCC:
“Please note watching Saturday Night Live 01/21-22/23 over the air on Wxia 11 Atlanta, Ga the ‘Gd’ term was used, and I am not ok with this to begin with.

When news of O.J. Simpson’s death broke last week, it wasn’t met with the normal outpouring of condolences and fond memories typically seen following a celebrity’s passing.
In a strange twist of fate, instead those feelings were directed at Simpson’s longtime antagonist, the late Norm Macdonald, whose years of savage jokes about Simpson instantly resurfaced, introducing his brutal brand of comedy to a whole new generation of fans.
“Here’s 10+ minutes of Norm Macdonald sh*tting on O.J. Simpson,” read one tweet, posted shortly after Simpson’s death was first reported. Featuring a supercut of Macdonald’s Simpson jokes, it’s been viewed nearly 5 million times. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
From 1994 to 1997, Macdonald held court as the anchor of SNL’s “Weekend Update,” where he was arguably the most polarizing comedian to ever sit behind the desk.
“I’m Norm Macdonald.
