Exclusive: The newly-installed leaders at Taiwan’s GrX studio highlighted the firm’s desire to make inroads in the Korean market as well as a strategic shift to focus on English-language titles.
Earlier this month, the studio announced Dennis Wu as Strategy and Chief Investment Officer and Shing-ming Ho as Chief Creative Director. They join the team that is currently headed by CEO Phil Tang and founder Hank Tseng.
GrX is behind Copycat Killer and The Victims’ Game season 2, which was the first Mandarin-language original series renewed by Netflix.
Wu told Deadline that the studio is focused on Asia-Pacific as its main market. GrX already has an office branch in Singapore, a representative in Japan and partners in Beijing to solidify its regional focus.
He also highlighted how GrX is working to develop stronger partnerships in the Korean film industry this year.

The Victims’ Game season 2 introduces new characters while bringing back old ones and helping us reconnect with them all. The old characters go through significant changes from the first season, while the new characters have motives that are intense enough to make your skin crawl and evoke strong emotions. Let’s get familiar with all of these characters through this cast and character guide for this new season of The Victims’ Game.
Spoilers Ahead
Fang Yi-Jen
Watching Joseph Chang as Fang Yi-Jen in The Victims’ Game season 2 has been fascinating. In the first season, we see Fang as primarily a forensic specialist who was deeply dedicated to solving crimes. His Asperger’s syndrome made him brilliant yet socially awkward, and his strained relationship with his daughter, Chiang Hsiao-Meng, was a central struggle. In Season 2, Fang’s transformation felt really significant. He’s no longer just a forensic expert but also...

I might be wrong, but I felt that Netflix’s The Victims’ Game season 2 is much better than its predecessor. It is not just about crimes and murders; but also explores each character’s journey, how they’ve evolved since the first season. Season 2 is definitely darker, more sinister, and deeply emotional. It makes you wonder how far parents would go to protect their children—whether to save them or seek revenge. It follows a reopened old case that involved two high school students whose dead bodies were found in the mountains. For years, everyone believed it to be a crime of passion where the girlfriend killed the boyfriend before commiting suicide herself. But now, there are doubts. New evidence suggests that the police might have tampered with evidence to hide the truth. Our very own forensic specialist, Fang Yi-Jen, and his old mentor, Lin Ching-Jui, are connected to this case.

A lot of The Victims’ Game season 2 is reminiscent of the first season because of the way things play out. Despite a brand-new murder case opening up recently, we get to see videos of the victims on the news exactly as we did in the first season. Parallel to a devastating serial murder; a case of personal vengeance, we also get to see the growing pains of a severed relationship between father and daughter. Though Yi-Jen tries his best to show his daughter how much he cares for her, she finds it difficult to understand him. Additionally, Hai-Yin’s role is diminished this season, as the daughter, Hsiao-Meng, takes center stage and even helps solve the mystery. In the first season, I struggled to understand what was happening in the first few episodes because things were fast-moving, and there was a lot happening. However, this time around, things are well-paced,...

The Taiwanese thriller The Victims’ Game has just returned to our screens for a thrilling and convoluted second season, but what none of us were imagining was the hint of a third on its way sometime in the future. While Netflix hasn’t announced a new season just yet, the ending of the second can only make us believe another one is on its way. The new season doesn’t just introduce us to new victims of a series of murders but also many new characters within the force and possible main cast of the series. But what’s frustrating is that at the end of the last episode of the second season, we get introduced to yet another character, opening up a new chapter for the series but leaving us waiting, potentially for years. The series focuses on Fang Yi-Jen, an autistic forensic investigator who has an estranged relationship with his daughter.

Taiwanese crime-thriller The Victims’ Game season 2 returns with Joseph Chang as the charming lead, Fang Yi-Jen. The Victims’ Game was quite entertaining, and there was no holding back when it came to the grisly details of the serial murders that terrorized Pinglin City. The fictional series grazed on certain societal stigmas like suicide and autism (so it seems) in a subtle way. With the first season, my big qualm was that I struggled to understand the first few episodes because so much was happening, and it was quite overwhelming to make sense of everything going on. However, as the series progressed, we were given the answers, and nothing was left to guesswork. I truly appreciate this fact because, oftentimes, with “mysteries,” an ambiguous ending is the way to go. While it works for some things, it’s quite tiresome to do guesswork when you only want to leave your brain behind and be entertained.

The Taiwanese crime-drama The Victims’ Game is genuinely so gory that sometimes I forget I’m watching TV. Season 1 introduced us to forensic investigator Feng Yi-Jen and his daughter Hsiao-Meng. To cut a long story short, they’re estranged because when she was a child, Hsiao-Meng ended up getting hurt from acid in Feng’s home office, leaving him so worried that he ended up divorcing his wife and leaving the home immediately. Feng is considered “weird” at work because he’s on the autism spectrum, but apart from a single mention of Asperger’s in the first season, the show doesn’t directly address this subject but takes a more generic approach to telling Feng’s story. Maybe this is a “lost in translation” situation or simply bad subtitling, but the only word we see used to describe the man is “weirdo.” In the process of solving a terrifying...

When you hear the phrase “last wish murder,” it might sound like something out of a dark, twisted story—maybe a murderer that might grant his victims’ last wishes. But there’s so much more to it. Imagine a world where people in deep despair feel and come together because they think committing suicide after their last wish is fulfilled is better than continuing to suffer. That’s the heart of the story in The Victims’ Game on Netflix. The plot revolves around these complex emotions and desperate acts. It starts with a series of mysterious deaths. At first, it seems like these people are being murdered. But as we learn more, we find out that these people understand each other’s pain. They decide that dying on their own terms is better than living in misery. Captain Chao Cheng-Kuan is leading the investigation to solve these puzzling cases. The...

Global streaming giant Netflix has made a significant ongoing commitment to production of original content from Southeast Asia and in the Chinese language.
For 2024, Netflix has unveiled a slate of four Chinese-language series, all hailing from Taiwan. From Thailand, it detailed seven series and one film. From Indonesia, it has committed to five films and a series co-written and directed by the consistently successful Joko Anwar, marking his first partnership with the streamer.
Additionally, Netflix has confirmed the appointment of Maya Huang as its head of Chinese-language content.
The moves stand in sharp contrast to the mid-January happenings at rival global streamer Prime Video, which is cutting staff in the region and ending its brief experiment with Southeast Asian originals.
In Indonesia, Netflix says it is broadening its storytelling with a range of genres including comedy, action, fantasy, and sci-fi thrillers.
