A little over two years after being acquired by Sony in August 2021, the streamer has gone from 5 million paid global customers to 13 million, as was announced during a presentation 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.
Crunchyroll recently surpassed 13 million premium paid subscribers around the world. The platform also announced that it has distributed 10 of the top 20 grossing anime films in United States box office history. Crunchyroll boasts the largest anime library, with over 1,300 unique titles and 46,000 episodes totaling over 24,000 hours available to stream.

Starting today, viewers can find the new Crunchyroll channel on Amazon Freevee, LG Channels, the Roku Channel and Vizio WatchFree+. An announcement of the venture says its linear-style roster of fan-favorite titles is intended for an “anime-curious audience.” Among the series available at launch are Horimiya, Ranking of Kings, Moriarty the Patriot, Psycho–Pass, Arifureta, Sugar Apple Fairytale, To Your Eternity and Code Geass.
New and premium anime content will remain on Crunchyroll’s SVOD and AVOD services, the companies said.
Sony acquired Crunchyroll from AT&T in 2021 and merged it with anime specialist Funimation. The avid base of anime fans globally has propelled Crunchyroll past 10 million paid subscribers, Sony Corp. announced last summer. Sony also bought AT&T’s 42% stake in Gsn in 2019, becoming the sole owner of the cable TV network.

TV had the run of the place for awhile there during the pandemic. But now that vaccinations are speeding up and the weather is warming, it’s film’s time to shine. At least that’s the conclusion that can be drawn from HBO Max’s list of new releases for June 2021.
There are no real original TV series of note coming this month, which is highly unusual for HBO and HBO Max. In their place, however, are some really impressive film offerings. Major Warner Bros. titles like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (June 11) both arrive this month. So too do some interesting documentaries like Revolutionary Rent on June 15 and Lfg on June 24. The former deals with the staging of the musical Rent in Cuba and the latter follows the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay.

“To make Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Sony had to invent new types of animation technology. The result was a stunning, Oscar-winning film that blurred the line between cartoon and comic book. But at the same time, Sony was making another animated film that took the same tech from Spider-Verse and used it to do something very… weird.”

Shrek is a masterpiece that couldn’t have existed as it does if the stars hadn’t aligned. Let’s take a look at alternative versions of Shrek that could’ve been.
“Imagine, if you will, the universe’s infinite realities that contain an infinite amount of Shreks. I don’t care whether or not you believe in that stuff; just think of all the different iterations of Shrek...
