You'll be petrified from boredom...
paul_haakonsen19 July 2021
Well, talk about false advertisement. I was lured in to watch the 2020 movie "Medusa: Queen of the Serpents" given the movie's rather interesting cover. So of course I was expecting to see something akin to what was on the cover.

But boy what a disappointment "Medusa: Queen of the Serpents" from writers Matthew B. C. and Scott Jeffrey turned out to be.

The storyline had certain elements to it that actually had potential, but it was just ultimately petrified by a rather dull and slow paced storytelling where little or nothing actually happened. And it didn't really help much to spice up the movie that the characters were flaccid and one-dimensional cardboard cut-outs.

Yet, I managed to sit through, well endure would be a more appropriate word here, the entire movie. Why? Well, I was hoping that director Matthew B. C. would eventually fire up the pistons and put the movie into a proper gear. Yeah, well that just never happened.

The acting in the movie was so-so. Nothing outstanding here to be experienced, but luckily enough the actors and actresses here managed to put on semi-adequate performances.

Visually then "Medusa: Queen of the Serpents" was not actually too shabby. Sure, this wasn't million dollar special effects and CGI to blow you away. But the special effects were actually functioning well enough to serve their purposes.

Don't get your hopes up for "Medusa: Queen of the Serpents" if you sit down to watch it with the intend of watching a proper horror movie or at least a movie based on the mythology of the medusa creature. Because "Medusa: Queen of the Serpents" was far from being either of those.

I am rating "Medusa: Queen of the Serpents" a generous three out of ten stars.

False advertising?
108YearsOld6 July 2021
The pretty snake lady on the movie poster looks completely different from the plain looking character in the movie, are they supposed to be the same person or is it a false advertising?

Medusa lost her bite
One of a long line of very low-budget films coming out of England at the moment. In fairness, it isn't the worst of the batch, but don't expect much.

The acting is below-par, the plot is flimsy at best. The few special effects used could have been straight out of a 1960's B-movie. On the plus side, it is (barely) watchable.

Not even scary!

A bunch of college kids decided to make the most worthless movie in their backyard.

I lost 1 hour and 27 minutes of my life for nothing, I'd be more grateful if i did spend this time on watching porn rather than this nonsense movie.

I has nothing to do with medusa nor her mythology.

Please delete this movie!

Go With It

Warning: Spoilers
Carly (Megan Purvis) is a heroin user who returns to her life as a trailer prostitute working for Jimmy (Thomas Beatty) again. The girls welcome her back. Jimmy takes Carly to a nearby trailer to work. The John owns a snake which bites Carly who then undergoes strange changes, hence the title.

The movie was on the slow side. Characters were not interesting and the dialogue lacked any side of hook. The film was bland with no swagger. I think they spent most of their budget on the DVD cover.

Guide: F-word. No real sex. No nudity.

Confused
tiskec13 October 2021
At first I expected something along the lines of Greek mythology mixed with urban times. It.. kind of was? They portrayed the pretty blonde actress as a woman who turns into medusa after contracting some virus. To me this kind of comes off as afflicting her into a zombie creature. I didn't appreciate this aspect of the story at all.

They did use the urban atmosphere, but in the sleeziest way possible, trailer park prostitutes who are abused. I think their should've at least been a romantic occurrence with medusa, in order to bind with the Greek mythology where medusa originates. Nope. Didn't happen. This gave me the feel of easy and effortless storytelling.

I appreciate the effort of the film crew trying to create an urban creature feature from Greek Mythology. However, it just didn, didn't, work here. That is why I rated this movie a generous 4/10.

Highly impressive indie creature feature
Forced back into a life of prostitution, a young woman arrives at a trailer park brothel and forced to serve clients to feed her drug addiction, but when one of the encounters results in a suspicious snake bite she finds herself turning into a snake-like creature and must find out the cause to stop it from continuing.

Overall, this was a pretty interesting genre effort. One of the better features here is the film's likable setup that brings us into the world of this traveling caravan of prostitutes that we follow. The idea of keeping this one focused around the trailer park that revolves around a world of drug abuse, self-esteem issues some of the girls are resigned to this life while others think they're above it all and encounters with violent customers looking to simply get off without anything else going on in their lives offers a fairly unique bent to this kind of storyline. It adds a darker edge to their lives seeing this aspect played up as much as it is at the beginning of the film alongside the lack of real horror elements at present here which only serves to enhance their lives that much more. Once this turns into a more conventional genre film with the initial bite and her subsequent slow-building change, this one becomes quite a bit more fun. The initial scenes of her coming to terms with what's happening as she lashes out at others and violently biting them only to wonder why her body begins peeling unnaturally bring this one along quite nicely. Not only featuring some decent effects-work in the physical changes and the few kills, but the main point in these scenes is also the pointed commentary on female inequality and how the powers she's acquired have turned her into a better, stronger person. Overall, these are what hold the film up as there are some issues to be had with the film. The main drawback on display is the films' somewhat stilted pacing that doesn't really generate much in the way of interesting action for a long section of the film. With the early stages of the film getting to know the characters and their lives before going into the early stages of the transformation, it takes a long time before anything is really done with the change and understanding what's happening to her. As great as this material is, it's really only the final half-hour where it really lets loose with those factors which can put off some viewers at times. The other small factor holding this one back is the rather strange inclusion of a cult of snake-worshippers that's thrown in at the last minute to try to include some motivation for what happened to her. However, rather than spell things out this inclusion ends up asking more questions about what the purpose behind them is, where they've been the whole time, how the girl falls in line with their plans, and what their overall goal is which is way too much to put on the final moments of the film. On top of these flaws, the usual assortment of low-budget issues from the utterly cheesy CGI that drags you out of the film completely, are the main problems here.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, sexual activity, and drug use.

Hard to visualize where this will go in the future
drystyx16 October 2021
This "Medusa" is different than the usual Medusa, although there is a bit of a figurative touch here.

This is what one used to call "avant garde", something not done much any more.

The "Medusa" gorgon that turned men to stone is done in a more metaphorical way here, but also more poetic, keeping the concrete image along with the metaphor.

The woman is with other Gorgons in a run down trailer park, pleasing some very unattractive men.

We get this news a bit at a time. That's the way most critics like it. I prefer to know things up front myself, but if you like the slow approach, this will make you happy.

To say much more would be "spoiler" I believe. There is a bit of creativity in here, and it is artistic in Nature. It's slow pace is for a sophisticated audience, I believe. Again, this is a symbolic piece.

I have issues with the music score and soundtrack. I'm not into that depressing noise, but I know some people like it.

I don't know where this fits into future History. I think it will be well regarded.

Definitely a movie.

..but not a movie really worth watching. The special effect make up on snake lady in the opening is an absolute joke. Within 10 minutes there's sex work, heroin use and misery, set to an Ibiza '98 chillout compliation. It's as if Ken Korda wrote it. Keep speeding on the needle bliss directors, try harder. Managed 17 minutes.

Boring with no plot

Warning: Spoilers
The soundtrack of Rona Castrioti is amazing. Sarah T Cohen is my forever crush, Nicole Wright is such an amazing actress, I knew this could of been an interesting movie, but sadly it wasn't. Very confusing story line just to begin with. Alexis in the beginning is in human form, what happened to her? Boa constrictors are non venomous, so how's it possible to get a venomous bite? The editing sequence was off, just to label some of my gripes.

Fetish Film
bemyfriend-4018417 January 2022
Film for fetishists. Very, very, very slow; but sensuous. I suspect that this is an attempt at straight film, by makers of porn. Traci Lords went from being a porn actress, to being a very successful starlet in big budget, major studio films. Many porn actresses would love to be achieve equal success. The movie focuses on the actresses' physical attributes; and lets them participate in some mild action. This is to show-off their abilities, beyond porn. If this film was made by pornographers, it would make sense that they too, are showcasing their talents for straight film. Seen on Tubi; the free streaming site, which has many indie films, foreign films, older major studio films, box-office flops, and now, live TV.

It has a so-so sub par set up and story line.

(2020) Medusa: Queen of the Serpents HORROR

Co-written and directed by Mathew B. C. that has the serpent killing a guy she welcomed into her trailer, before it jumps to a sleazebag and user named Jimmy(Thomas Beatty) dropping off a blonde adult teen named Carly (Megan Purvis) to a small mobile unit to live with an older lady named Maura (Nicole Nabi) who is supposed to be like a mother figure to her, giving her old room back. We are then introduced to other prostitutes/ escorts who are part of that small mobile unit such as Carly's friend, Simone (Sarah T. Cohen) and another older lady named Val (Nicola Wright) and Maury's abuser "Dirty John" (Ricardo Freitas). For another fix, Jimmy then drives Carly to see (Joshua Samuels) and to ask for Alexis. And as it turns out Alexis happens to be a snake and besides allowing it to rub against her it bits her on the leg. And she very slowly descends into Medusa- hence the title. The ironic twist is that the snake itself is not just some ordinary snake, for it's actually a young lady (Jamila Wingett) who intended to wake up Carly as she really is, as Medusa with cult-like followers. It has a so-so sub par set up and story line.

Better than expected
BandSAboutMovies8 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In the world of myth, Medusa was a gorgeous woman who was assaulted inside the temple of Athena by Poseidon, who gained power over the goddess of wisdom through this attack. Angered, Athena punished Medusa by transforming her into a horrific creature, her radiant hair replaced by snakes. Today, feminists see the story of Medusa as one of the first cases of victim blaming. There's also the theory that she was transformed into a beast because men have always feared female desire.

That brings us to the movie Medusa, in which a young woman suddenly finds that a snake's bite has begun to change her into something new, beautiful and deadly.

The first full-length movie from director Matthew B. C. - working from a script by Scott Jeffrey - tells the story of a caravan of prostitutes facing a variety of addictions, violent customers and an existence bereft of any hope.

When a new girl named Carly - who had escaped this caravan once before, only to succumb back to the siren's call of heroin addiction - is taken to work there by her pimp, her first job introduces her to Alexis, who is both a snake and a woman. Once Carly is bitten, she becomes something that will change the world of all of the women.

If you told me the premise of this movie without showing it to me - and told me the budget - I'd think it was a trifle. Yet I was pleasantly surprised by the way the narrative is in the now without clubbing you over the head with its messages. It's a talented filmmaker who can thread the narrow divides of commerce, exploitation and message. Somehow, against the odds, this movie does that.

And hey - I'm all for movies that feature snakes growing out of a woman's head.
