This series is set ( according to the opening credits ) in 1955. The first season ended with a Christmas Special. If the Special took place at Christmas 1955 ( it is not made clear ) it must mean that every episode afterwards is taking place in 1956. But the year went unchanged.
This episode starts with the lads helping a wheelchair-bound Marsh to play golf. They are relieved to learn they no longer have to care for him; instead they are sent to the mortuary. Even the normally hard-as-nails Jakey is terrified. Marsh recovers and the lads hope he will get another posting, somewhere well away from them. Unfortunately, he is put on the hospital's staff, to keep the orderlies ( guess who? ) in shape...
One of the best 'Doctor In Charge' episodes was called 'A Night With The Dead', and had 'Stuart-Clark' ( Geoffrey Davies ) and 'Bingham' ( Richard O'Sullivan ) trying to scare the wits out of 'Duncan Waring' ( Robin Nedwell ). Despite also being set in a morgue, this is nowhere near as amusing, despite a good guest appearance from the dependable Christopher Benjamin as 'Sgt.Foot'. The lads don't get much to do other than be terrified at the prospect of being surrounded by corpses.
Funniest moment - in his posh new living quarters, Marsh tries to poke the fire, only to find out it is an artificial one!
