A few months ago, producers David Leitch and Kelly McCormick confirmed that Universal is really invested in building the films Nobody and Violent Night out into franchises – so Nobody 2 and Violent Night 2 are both heading toward production. It was even suggested that Nobody 2 could start filming by the end of the year… and now the folks at Collider have learned that, if everything works out with the scheduling, the production start date could be just two months away! They hear that Nobody 2 is currently expected to start filming in August and wrap in October.
McCormick previously told Collider, “We are planning on returns to those universes. Hopefully, honestly, even potentially end of this year for Nobody 2 and, beginning of next year for Violent Night 2, if we can find time in everybody’s busy schedules. But the development’s going super well and everybody’s really, really...

As Annecy premiere “Spermageddon” continues to rack up sales, even its makers are surprised they got away with its risqué subject matter.
“When we finally got to make it, there were times when I was looking at the screen, thinking: ‘How the hell did we get this movie made?!’” said Tommy Wirkola, who co-directed with Rasmus A. Sivertsen.
“We made it in Europe – that’s how. Years ago, I pitched it in Hollywood and it never went anywhere. When it comes to sex, it’s more delicate over there.”
In the film – sold by Charades and debuting an exclusive clip with Variety – two teenagers have sex for the very first time, unaware the sperm cells are readying for their perilous journey. But despite some suggestive content, “Spermageddon” is not just for grownups.

After a short run in theaters, The Fall Guy is now available to purchase on Digital HD with a never-before-seen Extended Cut that features an addiitonal 20 minutes of action-packed new footage from the David Leitch-directed actioner, which stars 3x Academy Award-nominee Ryan Gosling (The Nice Guys; Blade Runner 2049; La La Land) and Academy Award-nominee Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow; The Devil Wears Prada; The Adjustment Bureau) in the lead roles.
The Fall Guy was one of the best received movies of the year, boasting an 82% Certified Fresh rating and an 87% Audience Score on review aggregator RottenTomatoes. However, the warm word of mouth didn't exactly translate to box office success as, to date, it has only grossed over $127.4 million worldwide on its estimated $150 million production budget, likely resulting in Universal fast tracking the film's digital launch.

One of the better and more uplifting action comedies of the year, The Fall Guy, was well-received by both fans and critics, who generally praised the movie and its execution. But, it seems that the fans did not help the movie that much, as the movie will be available on digital platforms starting on May 21, 2024 (tomorrow) after a theatrical run of just 19 days! While this is certainly great for the fans, who will now be able to enjoy the movie from their homes, it is bad news for the film’s budget, as the digital release will definitely decrease the box office income, which hasn’t been that great in the first place.
According to different sources, the movie has a production budget of $125–150 million but earned just $127,566,845 at the global box office on May 20, 2024, as per Box Office Mojo. This means that the movie will see a digital release...

Johannes Roberts and screenwriter Ernest Riera return to co-write on that new installment, which will be directed by veteran horror director Patrick Lussier. Variety now reports on a new shark film that’s currently untitled that will be helmed by the director of the Christmas action movie Violent Night, Tommy Wirkola.

Sadly, fans will not be seeing Phoebe Dynevor in the highly anticipated Bridgerton season 3, but the good news is that we've just learned that she's in negotiations to star in an upcoming shark attack horror movie from Violent Night director Tommy Wirkola. More on this below.
Dynevor is best known for her breakout role as Daphne Bridgerton in the hit Netflix period drama, Bridgerton. Since then, she has gone on to star in several movies like the biographical drama film The Colour Room, the comedy-drama Bank of Dave, and the erotic thriller Fair Play. We'll see her next in a spy thriller flick titled The Inheritance, a short film called More Flames, and a thriller movie titled Anniversary. Now that she's in talks to star in a new shark thriller, we could possibly be seeing her in another movie as well.
Unfortunately, the shark attack film is untitled at the moment.

Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow, Violent Night) is headed into the open waters for an untitled shark attack horror movie, The Insneider exclusively reports this week. That scoop has been confirmed by Variety, with the site also reporting that Phoebe Dynevor (Fair Play) is in talks to star in the upcoming movie.
Adam McKay and Kevin Messick will produce the untitled movie for Sony, with Variety noting that production is expected to take place this coming summer in Australia.
“Plot details are being kept under wraps,” the site also notes.
Wirkola’s project is one of many new shark attack movies in the works, with Lizzy Greene starring in High Tide and Sean Byrne directing Dangerous Animals, to name just a couple.
The prospect of a shark attack movie directed by Tommy Wirkola is particularly exciting, however, as Wirkola’s movies are always wildly entertaining and extremely bloody.

Dynevor is ‘in talks’ to star in Wirkola’s shark-based project according to Deadline, while further details are thinner on the ground than actual sharks. There’s no title to speak of and its plot is said to be “under wraps”; the concrete bit of information is that it’ll be produced by Hyperobject Industries, the production company founded by Adam McKay. On Saturday, WeAreMovieGeeks.com got a sneak peek at the Fall Guy Stuntacular at Universal Studios Hollywood. Based on the upcoming reboot of the 80’s classic TV series, The Fall Guy Stuntacular is a limited running show at the popular movie theme park. Presented just before the Water World stunt show at Universal, this new show features many of the big stunts from the movie. And as if that wasn’t enough, Ryan Gosling, star of the new film was on hand to treat the invited audience to the first look at the stunts and the stunt men and women who make it all possible. Gosling called the film, “a love letter to the stunt community” that has been overshadowed for years. Laughs were also abound, as Gosling doubled down on his likeability and comic chops, joking with the crowd and director of the film David Leitch who was also in attendance.

During the last decade, much has been discussed about the stunt department and how the fearless, talented individuals who work in this area deserve more recognition in the film industry. From various movements to creating the respective category in awards ceremonies – unfortunately, the Oscars remain stubborn – to an unmistakable shift in the action genre – nowadays, it’s almost mandatory for an action flick to have an oner – stuntmen and stuntwomen have been increasingly valued with each passing year, so it would be expected that a movie paid them the proper tribute. With one of the most influential voices from the stunt world at the helm, David Leitch (Deadpool 2), The Fall Guy is a true love letter to a unit often overlooked by the general audience. In a mix of mystery, love, and action, Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), a stunt double, returns to work after an incident that almost ended his career.

Oscar nominees Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are the Barbenheimer comedy duo we didn’t know we’ve been waiting for in The Fall Guy. Trailer number two shows off more of the chemistry between Gosling and Blunt while also delivering more action, more humor, and enough shirtless Gosling scenes to keep audiences satiated until the film’s theatrical release on May 3, 2024.
Joining Gosling and Blunt in the action comedy are Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train), Winston Duke (Black Panther franchise), and Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once).
Drew Pearce (Hobbs & Shaw) wrote the screenplay, stuntman David Leitch directed, with Leitch, Gosling, Kelly McCormick, and Guymon Casady produced. Executive producers include Pearce, Geoff Shaevitz, and the creator of the original Fall Guy television series, Glen A. Larson.

Tommy Wirkola‘s action-thriller Violent Night is getting a sequel, we learned last year, but what’s the latest on that project? Is it still happening or has it fallen by the wayside?
Chatting with Collider at SXSW last week, Violent Night producer Kelly McCormick promised that Violent Night 2 is definitely still happening, and might be filming next year.
“We are planning on returns to those universes,” McCormick responded when the outlet asked for updates on sequels to both Nobody and the Christmas movie Violent Night.
McCormick teased, “Hopefully, honestly, even potentially end of this year for Nobody 2 and, beginning of next year for Violent Night 2, if we can find time in everybody’s busy schedules.
“But the development’s going super well and everybody’s really, really excited about moving those worlds forward.”
Last we heard, Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be back to write Violent Night...

The upcoming The Fall Guy, in theaters on May 3rd, and a salute to stunt people, had it’s premiere at SXSW earlier this week.
AP reported:
The SXSW premiere of “The Fall Guy” came with some of its own stunts. A pair of motorcycles sped through the crowds milling outside the Paramount Theater before Blunt and Gosling arrived in the back of a pick-up. Blunt and Gosling weren’t the only ones fresh from the Academy Awards. Leitch and his wife, Kelly McCormick, (a producer on “The Fall Guy”) produced a clip reel of stunts for the telecast. Though stunt performance isn’t an Oscar category (a sore point that comes up in “The Fall Guy”), Leitch thinks it will happen soon.

Universal is bending time and space to set a date for Ke Huy Quan’s next movie. The studio will release With Love on Feb. 7, 2025. With Love marks the Oscar-winning actor’s first time leading a major movie.

The film continues the trajectory for Quan, who broke out as a child actor in movies like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Goonies, before spending decades without acting roles only to return with an Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Over the last ten years, former stuntman David Leitch has directed such films as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and the upcoming The Fall Guy. While he keeps busy directing action films, he also produces them, with two Leitch productions being Nobody and Violent Night, both of which were released by Universal Pictures. Talking to Collider, Leitch and fellow producer Kelly McCormick confirmed that Universal is really invested in building Nobody and Violent Night franchises – so Nobody 2 and Violent Night 2 are both heading toward production!
Directed by Ilya Naishuller from a screenplay by Derek Kolstad, Nobody starred Bob Odenkirk as as Hutch Mansell, an unassuming family man who cowers and folds during a home invasion. His post-traumatic shame disorder reignites a long-cooled fire within, and he summons a secret lethal skill set for a revenge mission, only to see it backfire spectacularly and put his family in greater jeopardy.

The heist comedy is making its way into theaters now, but it’s not likely to take too long to hit NBCUniversal’s streamer.
Ethan Coen’s solo directorial debut is here! The beloved auteur helmed and co-wrote his latest project “Drive-Away Dolls” without his brother and filmmaking partner Joel. The hardnosed caper made its official theatrical debut in the United States on Friday, Feb. 23 and it is the type of road trip/crime story that only a Coen could create. “Drive Away Dolls” is not available to stream yet, but we have a pretty good idea of when it will be.
“Drive-Away Dolls” is led by Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan and features by Pedro Pascal, Matt Damon, and Miley Cyrus. The film is being distributed by Focus Features, whose parent company is Universal Pictures. That means the movie will likely head to Peacock once it’s done in theaters,...

It’s that time of year again. The chestnuts are roasting, the eggnog is nogging, and some of us are getting ready for a house full of people that will turn this holiday season into a stressful one. So what do you do when you want to get into that merry spirit but also feel a slight bit of homicidal rage at your mother-in-law who just won’t shut up?
You put on some violent, blood-drenched action films that still capture that yuletide spirit. While others may embrace the holiday season with hilarious comedy, a hearty drama, a romantic rendezvous, or even Ernest, you can sit back and partake in one or all of the movies we here at JoBlo deem the top 10 best Christmas action movies.

Every year, Christmas rolls around, and the general viewing public gets to have some holiday romances, some family holiday films, and a few comedies here and there, with some forgetting that horror still exists and is rife for the holiday season. From creepy Santas to Grim Grinches, there’s plenty to be had in the more violent side of the film industry. Over the years, creepy Christmas has been a definite thing with plenty of movies dedicated to it in the horror genre. Who can forget the original Black Christmas, the recent Violent Night, Silent Night, Christmas Evil, and so many more. A few years ago, Trick R Treat made a splash in...

Santa Claus won’t be the only mythical figure sliding down chimneys this holiday season! John Woo is getting in on the home invasion action now that Lionsgate is bringing Silent Night to PVOD on December 19. Please buy extra milk and cookies this year. I hear Woo likes Macaroons and Snickerdoodles. While that’s probably inaccurate, he strikes me as a man of taste. It’s been 20 years since Woo’s last American movie, so this is a big deal.
“From legendary director John Woo and the producer of John Wick comes the gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Joel Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve,” reads the official synopsis. “While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, Kinnaman makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.

Ho Ho Ho motherf*ckers! Yup, it’s that time of year again…the giving season. As families everywhere come together to celebrate the holidays, bundle up by the fire, and indulge in a parade of sappy Christmas movies, the real adults in the room are going to need something with a bit more kick. Think about it, the all-time best Christmas movies – It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, you name it – all revolve around sentimental family-friendly stories for children and adults to enjoy equally. But f*ck all that, Jack, this year we’re all about honoring a bona fide Christmas classic expressly aimed at adult audiences. While Die Hard and Violent Night are worthy action-packed contenders, it’s time to dish out the edible cookies and spiked eggnog for Bad Santa – easily the most politically incorrect and controversially transgressive Christmas comedy on record.

The image of Santa Claus has been curated over the years to become wholesome and a symbol of happiness. In the past, he had been seen as a representation of Saint Nicholas or Father Christmas. In the 80s, he seemed to take a darker turn as horror filmmakers decided to use his visage to corrupt the viewer’s expectations. This sweet and gentle man would now be a killer. Multiple films decided to use this idea, and a whole sub-genre of horror films was born. Which ones are the best killer Santa movies?
Violent Night (2022)
This newer film has the jolly man fighting for the side of good. This little twist makes the film even more fun. A wealthy family is held hostage, and it turns out their only hope is the fat man himself. David Harbour plays the legendary figure who is losing faith in the holiday. When he stumbles upon the situation,...

It's probably the fault of closed-minded, conservative propaganda that the idea of subversiveness within art received a bad reputation. Just as all art is political, all art is (or at least can be) a little subversive. Certainly the dictionary definition of the term, where a work of art intends to undermine the power and/or authority of an established idea, system or value, is heavily akin to the way plot structure tends to be broken down within plays and screenplays: a period of Stasis being interrupted by an Intrusion or Inciting Action, and so on.
Given how weird a number of people are when it comes to the behavior and attitudes toward the Christmas holiday, it's no real surprise that any art having to do with Christmas tends toward subversion. This can manifest in tangential ways (like the slapstick violence of the "Home Alone" series) or direct ways (Santa Claus...
