The film is loosely based on Stephen Hale's living situation. Both he, and the main character of the film live in a church in the Pacific Palisades, for free.
The film was shot on nights and weekends over a period of 2 years.
The film was not only edited in Michael Mohan's bedroom, it was literally edited under his bed, as his apartment is so small, his bed is lofted.
Michael Mohan's apartment is also where Robert Towne lived during part of the time when he was writing Chinatown.
Halfway through production, actors Anthony Deptula and Tina Kapousis got engaged.
