A disappointment.
Sleepin_Dragon25 March 2022
A six part, explosive series, Jed Mecurio, Vicky McClure, this should, on paper, be brilliant......

For such a pedigree, this series was sadly, a real disappointment. If you're anything like me, you'll see the name Jed Mecurio, and get pretty excited, sadly this one just didn't land. It's not all bad, but sadly it's a real disappointment.

On the plus side, it looks nice, it's incredibly well filmed, it's slick, and the action scenes and explosives are impressive, Vicky McClure is excellent, and in fairness the first episode is rather good.

Unfortunately, it just runs out of steam very quickly, the tension feels forced, the plot is wafer thin, the eventual outcome just doesn't work. The characters lack any degree of depth, Lana apart, it's so hard to warm to any of them. Some of the acting is a little patchy in parts.

If you're desperate to watch it, you could quite easily watch parts one and six, as virtually nothing happens in the rest of it.

It was a ratings winner, and it was obvious that series two would follow, hopefully they do it a little better when it returns. 6/10.

Exciting watching
corinnescrapbook2 March 2022
I do not understand all the negative comments here. Maybe if you work for a bomb squad this is not realistic but I thought right from the very first episode, this was great action tv. I did suspect who the person was but then, you are not sure. Great actors, real fast pace drama. Loved it.

Worth watching but don't expect realism!
tomwoodland-9659924 January 2022
Firstly i want to defend the show, most people reviewing who are moaning about it being unrealistic when it comes to the policing side of things like no sh@t....its a tv show with certain time per episode so they're not going to go all into detail and start breaking out real protocols bomb squads follow...also the key to being good at bomb squad is not to show a bunch of actors what they do so they can show everyone including potential threats! Same for anti terrorism they wont give away any details to tv shows which is true....hence why hardly any help was given to the show by real bomb squads or special police groups...what was people expecting to tune in and see Vicky McClure kitted up doing the death walk like we're watching the Hurt Locker movie?

What i will say and fully agree with is the language and silly decisions the characters make, firstly screaming the F word didn't build tension it just came off bad and makes no sense to scream at someone panicking..also bomb squads would not have a thin police vest and some goggles to deal with bombs...they'll have full on body covered plating with not a bit of skin in sight!

Its not like the line of duty where they can ask for police inside help with the show as everything on the show is not revealing but when it comes to shows about terrorism of course they wont help the show so i dont expect it to be realistic at all, worth the watch but yeah dont expect realism!

Unrealistic
samsneed-023648 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The moment I lost interest with Trigger Point was where the armed officer got his neck slit by the sniper in the flat. The fact ALL the officers on scene knew the sniper was positioned in the top left flat, yet let one officer carry out the sweep by himself..... They would've sent a whole team to check it out not one officer... silly and very obvious error to avoid whilst making this. Definitely more research is needed for the future if they aim to make a second series. Hope the episodes to follow contain more action as it has got quite boring.

Pretty standard stuff, but at least it does end with a bang (arf arf)
sarcasm_for_free28 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
(Review Of Episode 1) There are some relatively tense scenes here, and the acting for the most part is good.

Such a shame then, that so much of the 'matey' dialogue between the police officers came across as forced, from the cliched, unexplained nicknames to the predictable domestic drama.

It seems to be trying to emulate US cop dramas, but felt more like a direct copy than trying to do its own thing. It is to be hoped that in future episodes, the script will expand these one-dimensional individuals and make them a bit more interesting.

I will give it some credit though: even though I kinda knew that van was gonna blow up at the end, it still made me jump. I'll be tuning in for the next episode, regardless of the problems listed above.

Stay tuned for more! 6/10.

Season finale was a disaster after a great build up.
Surreptitious_Vin12 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I almost couldn't watch this last episode. After a riveting 5 episodes, Lana is finally faced with the formidable group The Wave, A group smart enough to rig light sensitive explosives and secondary triggers pressure plates and other "advanced tech" according to Bomb Data Analysis expert Dr. Sonya Reeves, are holistically and hilariously dumbed down in this episode. They are suddenly dependent on Lana Washington to complete their final task, treating her as part of the group, revealing their plans to her and like. Their only insurance against her, holding her family hostage. It becomes so cliched at this point that it pilfers the entire buildup of the season at this final moment. It seems like the producers planned for a longer run this season but suddenly got a call to limit it to 6 eps and they had to rush to tie up the end regardless of whether it made sense. About the character development and methodology to police work, I wont even get there. An officer like the lead would have been fired on Day01 for insubordination. Thats how it works in the rea world and it couldn't be further from it here. Ill generously give it a 6 after this debacle of an episode.

Don't be mardy
megan6202 March 2022
I wasn't sure at the start but I stuck with it and it improved over the other episodes. I was in bits when Lana couldn't let go at the end. Loved Vicky dropping in local phrases e.g. "don't be mardy" for Lana, that's proper East Mids talk! - it made me smile.

Too protracted and too much focused on a single person
BeneCumb30 March 2022
True, Vicky McClure is talented and she has had several pleasant roles and performances in thriller series (e.g. Line of Duty, Broadchurch), but in a teamwork - as modern sophisticated crimes are not solved by a single individual any more.

Well, Lana Washington is part of a team as well, even a leader, but the camera is too much on her and even her co-workers are some gophers around that you hardly remember their faces... The plot has its twists, but the outcome is often airy-fairy - as even laymen know how widespread and thorough are nowadays security (background) checks. The creators have evidently also thought that dedicating many minutes for defusing a bomb is thrilling to most of viewers - in fact, it is rather boring and protracting as it is unlikely that the leading character gets killed...

In general, Trigger Point is more than average, but not much - for a British series.

Plenty going on
samthejudgeamos2 March 2022
Ok, some of the acting was a bit stiff, but it is, after all acting.

Adrian lester led this superbly, then it dropped off a bit. Definitely worth a watch.

Triggering
gstaricoff31 January 2022
Only two episodes in and it's building nicely so far, but it's worth it just for the fact that it's triggering so many people for casting a woman and a black man in the leading roles.

If nothing else, it's worth it succeeding just for that.

Strangely muted
clp-2705830 January 2022
The same bugbear as usual unfortunately - an enormous amount of money spent on this series, but you still cannot hear all the dialogue, people mutter without moving their lips. Very frustrating to anyone with even a slight hearing impairment. This can easily be fixed, but tv production companies seem to be unable to understand how to record spoken sound properly. I watched a 1950s film on tv earlier and could every word clear as a bell. Just fix it!

Vicky is brilliant as usual
ellarichardson-963693 March 2022
I could watch Vicky McClure on the TV all day I think she's one of Britain's best actresses and she holds all this together. There will always be those writing a 1* comment after 5 minutes of episode 1 in a desperate attempt to get noticed. Of course there is creative license but so what - it's still a good watch if you don't analyse every single detail.

Good but could be great
Peter-086155 March 2022
It was good but the writing was a bit naff. It's been renewed for season 2 and it would benefit from more depth and character development.

I liked the different bomb disposal scenes and the explosions that did happen were impressive for a TV budget.

The reveal of the culprit wasn't at all surprising but I thought it was a good and robust finale overall.

Lacking in depth & plot
efd-104672 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
English police shows are often excellent with their own brand of mystery and tension, but Trigger Point pulls up short, we get the tense life of bomb disposal people in the first 10 minutes, then that's it. Vicky Mclure's acting ability or lack of it is painfully exposed in several scenes, or perhaps she had bad direction, her 'serious' look is it, she has nothing else.

One thing this show does is show you how good the writing is in Line of Duty, but in this show you could write the plot in 2 or 3 minutes.

At each 'surprise' bomb explosion I predicted exactly what was going to happen, some of the police in this series are pretty thick, in the first episode smack bang in the middle of the flats they have blocked off is a van full of bombs, but no one looks until it's too late ? Silly, anyone would ask have you looked in that van ?

Looks promising!!
casperdoodle197524 January 2022
Slow start, but looks promising. Like others to begin with it seemed to not be as good as the cast involved should make it.

Keep with it and you won't be disappointed, looking forward to the next episode.

What a great cliffhanger ending.

Deserves a higher rating
craigyy-6072019 February 2022
This isn't Oscar worthy and some of the plot isn't 100% realistic or believable. But it is an enjoyable watch and definitely more exciting than some of the higher rated SLOW and BORING shows which drag a storyline over multiple episodes.

...and I'm enjoying it it's definitely getting better. A lot of the reviews on here are from bigots who watched 10 minutes of episode 1 so make up your own mind about it.

Lots of suspense.
ronlda22 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Another series where the most unlikable character is the main character played by Vicky McClure. What a disaster she is as a person! Overlooking that element, the storyline is decent but definitely not something that you would want to watch for an extended period of time. Lots of suspense but not much substance. Good acting under the circumstances given the weak plot. I will finish the first series but have no interest in watching the second season. Too many other better series available on an ongoing basis. This is the second dud series in which Vicky McClure was featured. Beginning to think she's more suited to playing in shows like Line of Duty.

Compared with rubbish around, its very watchable
lakeshore-9871131 January 2022
Vicki is a bit dramatic, overall a good enjoyable show, after two episodes storyline is firming up, I am enjoying it, refreshing to watch a program that is different from all the other crap around. Just watched episode 6 and sooooo happy there willbe a season 2. It is indeed different to anything else around, suspenseful and interesting. I would have liked more technical stuff and a little less on Lana's emotional situations, but I guess its hard toget much factual information on tech stuff because of security considerations these days. Bring on Season 2.

Triggered Point
fwvhrm31 January 2024
This is mostly about TP season 2. Its the kind of show popular with a generation that is only half-watching as they surf social media with the TV on in the background. It's a not a one star because they did make an effort and there are explosion's!

You'd find more depth in a saucer full of milk, WWE is more realistic and the plot holes are big enough that it would be fair to expect an event horizon...but apart from that it's okay...if you're half-watching.

It's not Vicky Mcclures fault, she does her best with a bumpy story line and woeful script, but some of her co-stars are so limited that you can only presume the auditions were held at the same time as a remake of 'Footballers Wives the Reunion' were hiring and the early rejects got to the trigger point casting couch just in time to get signed up.

To be fair even your favourite streamer has that bit for ads and 'like, comments, subscribes' so feel free to enjoy TP2 in those moments.

The need for a quick thrill outweighs any sort of realism here.
Good-Will28 February 2022
I don't know about you but I've watched a whole shedload of UK based police dramas and once you learn pretty much anything about how the police have to obey rules, and that there's a methodology to police work, then you get a sense of when something is well written, even though it may be unrealistic.

But this...this.. is just unbelievable in almost every respect.

Countless times it sacrifices any sort of realism for cheap thrills and although I watched it until the end, then that was more because I was laughing at it rather than admiring it.

If you're looking for a reasonably well acted drama but with a mediocre script and an absurd sense of "turn it up to 11" plot where you need constant stimulation then this is for you.

4/10 is about right since it held my attention enough to watch until the end, but it's below average for this sort of production.

Epic show
valiumsbestfriend1915 February 2022
This one keeps you on the edge of your seats.

I never binge watch, but I have this. There's been some relatively predictable moments, but I've enjoyed it regardless of that.

A must if you want some escapism.

Eminently watchable.
shenzencowboy14 February 2022
I can't believe the appalling and unfair reviews written here, some people have an agenda. It's no Line of Duty but is better than average with an excellent cast and scripts which build tension. There are some scenes which stretch credulity but it was engaging throughout. Reviews are in the eye of the beholder. How can people give this 1/10 and score Reacher10/10 when the Jack Reacher actor displays the acting ability of a mannequin.

Ignore the bad reviews and give it a go. It obviously makes some people feel good to trash a show when it doesn't deserve to be trashed.

Don't bother with Series 2 !
jstzrcfqg1 February 2024
Just watched the first episode of Series 2. What a 💩 The writers and whoever else involved in this production have not taken on board ALL the comments about first series. Awful acting, some couldn't act their way out of a paper bag, stereotypical characters, filling the appropriate criteria with the usual nonsense. The deserted car park scene is just ridiculous. As if ! It would have been concrete blocked up, not open to all and sundry to use. So many 'crime dramas' these days are A) predictable, B) unrealistic, C) story and character development sadly lacking, just for the sake of 'action and suspense', or lack of. Avoid !

Ten u
qwyrgcm24 January 2022
1st- not everyone has worked in a bomb disposal squad or police unit. Stop putting people off because it didn't mimic your working day.

2nd - For the same people calling it rubbish because the armed police and bomb disposal squad don't work in the exact way as the show- ITS A DRAMA NOT A DOCUMENTARY. They worked with ex personnel during filming but of course, they have to enhance the experience for the viewer.

The first episode is full of suspense, a build up of backstory and multiple "scares". The story seems like it will develop as there will be a theme or the same group involved.
