Quotes

  • Captain Luthor : You tracked my ship.

Superman : What do you want?

    Captain Luthor : You... gone.

Superman : Why? What did I do to you?

Captain Luthor : It wasn't just me. You destroyed my whole planet!

    [after a brief fight]

Captain Luthor : I know you can hear the bomb in my ship.

    [his ship takes off]

Captain Luthor : People are gonna get hurt. Me or them. Make a choice, Kal-El.

  • Jor-El : And you're certain he's displayed abilities?

Clark Kent : Absolutely, sir. Why?

Jor-El : The photo-nucleic effect appears to be insignificant.

Clark Kent : Insignificant? How can that be?

Jor-El : His cells can only store minimum amounts of energy from the Sun.

Clark Kent : But he's released an ocular blast.

Jor-El : Only once, and he since then has been unable to repeat it.

Clark Kent : He has elevated strength.

Jor-El : For his size, perhaps, but nothing extraordinary. He doesn't even have 1/100th your strength.

Clark Kent : Test him again.

Jor-El : There is no reason to do so. These have been random occurrences. He'll never have enough power to produce these abilities on command. His human DNA is just too limiting. I know you wished for this, but he will never be like you, Kal-El.

  • Clark Kent : Look, the fact that I'm Superman means that I've been gone a lot in your lives. Now, I always told myself that you'd both be fine and that it wouldn't affect you, but I was wrong. I know it has. Now, I can't just abandon the world, but I can't abandon you two, either. It's gonna take me some time to figure out how to be better at both, but I will, okay?

    Jonathan Kent : Okay.

Jordan Kent : [Clark slides an ELT like Lois' to him]  I thought you said this wouldn't fix my problem.

Clark Kent : It won't, but keeping you home won't, either.

Jordan Kent : So I can go to school?

Clark Kent : We have to keep an eye on your powers, Jordan, but... yes, you can go. All right, let's get dressed. We gotta go.

Jonathan Kent : Wait, where's mom?

Clark Kent : Oh, she, uh... she had a thing.

  • Clark Kent : I told Jordan that I would be there for him, but I don't even know what he needs right now.

Lois Lane : He just needs his dad.

  • Jordan Kent : I only got two of the AP classes I wanted, and they put me in Spanish instead of French.

Jonathan Kent : I haven't even looked at my schedule yet.

Jordan Kent : Yeah, I'm sure it's just as crappy as mine.

Lois Lane : We actually wanted to talk to you about school, anyway.

Clark Kent : We have some concerns with you going right now.

Jordan Kent : Isn't that why we moved here?

Lois Lane : No, we came here so that your father and I would be around more and we'd have more time to spend together as a family.

Clark Kent : And to live in a safer place for me to teach you about your powers and the reason you have them.

Jordan Kent : Well, what do I need to learn? I'm a little stronger. So what?

Clark Kent : You're a lot stronger, and you've had an ocular release of energy.

    Jordan Kent : A what?

Jonathan Kent : Is that seriously what it's called?

Lois Lane : It doesn't matter what it's called. He almost hurt a bunch of kids.

Jordan Kent : It was an accident. I don't even know how it happened.

Lois Lane : That's exactly our point.

Jordan Kent : So I'm just not gonna go to school?

Clark Kent : Until we know how to keep it from happening again, yes.

Jordan Kent : Why can't I just have one of those beeper things mom has in case something goes wrong?

Clark Kent : An ELT is not the solution, Jordan.

Jordan Kent : [getting up and leaving]  You know what? I thought coming here would be a chance to start over, but I guess I'm just gonna be a freak like always.

Jonathan Kent : [sarcastic]  It feels like home already.

  • Clark Kent : [bringing Jordan to the Fortress of Solitude]  After my father died, I felt pretty lost. I had a lot of questions about who I was, why I could do the things I could do. So I came here, found my answers. Maybe this place can help you the same way it helped me.

Jordan Kent : That's the thing from the ship.

Clark Kent : It's a sunstone crystal. Think of it as a computer drive that contains the entire history of Krypton.

Jordan Kent : So you brought me to an igloo in the North Pole to read about Krypton?

Clark Kent : Not "read," exactly. It's more like... "experience."

  • Superman : What is this?

General Sam Lane : No clue. He acted like we were chums, though.

Superman : So that's why he was here? For you?

General Sam Lane : He was here for the same reason he was in Moldova and Mongolia: kryptonite.

Superman : You have a supply?

General Sam Lane : I do.

Superman : And you never told me?

General Sam Lane : I don't tell you lots of things.

Superman : How much do you have, Sam?

General Sam Lane : Let's just say it's the reason the world's in short supply.

    Superman : Why?

General Sam Lane : So no one gets their hands on it and uses it against you. When are you gonna realize everything I've done since the day you married my daughter has all been for all of your protection?

Superman : Then find this guy so I can finish this.

  • Lois Lane : So? Did you get the stranger?

Clark Kent : Getting closer. How was the rest of the barbecue?

Lois Lane : We didn't stay very long. The ribs were really good, though.

  • Lana Lang Cushing : Oh, you have the same look on your face as you did in high school, like you got the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Clark Kent : I'm, uh, just wondering if we're gonna fit in here.

Lana Lang Cushing : Well, don't even think about leaving, 'cause I just got you back. You know what? Listen, it's gonna take everybody a little while to get used to this new normal. You grew up here. They didn't, so it's kinda up to you to make them feel at home, yeah?

  • Clark Kent : You know how many times, as a kid, I'd sit out here, and my mom and dad would come out, and I'd ask them a thousand questions about how to solve this problem or that problem?

Lois Lane : Do you think we made a mistake by moving here?

Clark Kent : Actually, I don't. We just have a lot of questions to answer. Like what are you gonna do about the Planet?

Lois Lane : I don't know. I've never be rewritten before.

Clark Kent : Well, here's what I know. The fire I saw in you with that story, I haven't seen that look in your eye in a long time... and I know this family is closer this week than we were last week, so it's okay if we've got a lot of questions. We're gonna find the answers together.

Lois Lane : [kissing]  Up, up, and away.

  • General Sam Lane : Why'd you move the family here? You took Lois away from where she needs to be, hurt Jonathan's football chances. Jordan's got no chance of fitting in with kids here. Must have had a hell of a reason.

    [realizing]

General Sam Lane : You told the boys you're Superman.

Clark Kent : Couldn't lie to 'em anymore.

General Sam Lane : You sure as hell could.

    Clark Kent : Sam...

General Sam Lane : You have any idea what you just did? You ruined their childhood, Clark. I've seen the toll this life's taken on Lois over the years. She never says anything to you, but I know. Now you're gonna put the boys through that same hell?

Clark Kent : This is gonna keep my family together.

General Sam Lane : No, Clark, it's gonna tear it apart.

  • Clark Kent : What's that?

Lois Lane : It is an article I am working on about Morgan Edge.

    Clark Kent : Edge?

Lois Lane : He was at the Smallville city council meeting last night.

Clark Kent : I thought you weren't getting involved.

Lois Lane : Well, yes, but then he started spouting this BS about helping the town. Morgan Edge is not here to save Smallville, Kansas. He's here for cheap labor because people are desperate, just like he did with New Carthage and Hazel Green and Granville. He is eating these small towns from the inside out.

Clark Kent : [moving to see her work, she yields her chair]  Thank you. "Morgan Edge is a corporate vampire." You remember that Edge owns the Planet?

    Lois Lane : So?

Clark Kent : So, he's not gonna let you publish this.

Lois Lane : You know what, babe? You do your Superman stuff, and I will do my Lois Lane stuff. I'm serious, Clark. I'm getting this gut feeling that this is one of the reasons I was supposed to come to Smallville. I am not going to let Morgan Edge destroy this town like he did the others.

  • Lois Lane : He changed it. He changed my story. It's, like, a pro-Edge fluff piece.

Clark Kent : Foswell did this?

Lois Lane : No, Edge. I can't let him do this.

Lt Rosetti : [with Sam at the Department of Defense]  General, you need to see this. He's here.

Lois Lane : [seeing Clark react to Sam's activated ELT]  Now? You gotta be kidding me.

Clark Kent : It's your dad. He's at the DOD.

Lois Lane : [glancing at Jonathan and Jordan]  I'll explain why. Go.

  • Clark Kent : He knew my history, my weakness. He had kryptonite.

Lois Lane : He's from another planet?

Clark Kent : That's what he said. He blames me somehow for it being destroyed.

Lois Lane : Well, you'll figure it out, Clark. You've taken on guys like this before.

Clark Kent : This is the worst time for someone like this to be showing up.

Lois Lane : Right when you moved your family to Smallville and you promised the boys you'd be dad of the year?

  • Clark Kent : Did you know your dad was stockpiling kryptonite?

Lois Lane : [pouring a glass of wine]  This bottle doesn't stand a chance, does it?

  • Clark Kent : [showing Jordan the history of Krypton]  It's a lot to absorb, I know.

Jordan Kent : How'd you know to do this when you came here?

Clark Kent : My father showed me. Well, the AI of my Kryptonian father. Jordan, this is your grandfather, the man you're named after, Jor-El.

Jor-El : You brought your son to me. Why?

Clark Kent : Because unlike we thought, Father, he's manifesting abilities.

Jor-El : Well, then... it is possible for us to further our Kryptonian heritage after all. And you, Jordan, you will be the one to do it.

  • Jordan Kent : Why do we need these big winter jackets? Are... are we flying somewhere?

Clark Kent : Kind of have to. Hold on, okay?

  • Clark Kent : You going somewhere?

Lois Lane : Going to a city council meeting about the Edge proposal.

Clark Kent : Lois, Lois, Lois, we're just settling in here.

Lois Lane : Only for a few minutes. Just to listen.

[with his superhuman hearing, Clark hears a truck approaching]

Lois Lane : Yeah, he texted while you were gone. Said he was stopping by.

Clark Kent : [seeing it's Sam]  Well, he has his work face on.

Lois Lane : I'm gonna take the boys with me. I don't want them hearing about some crazy person stalking their dad.

  • Clark Kent : Your dad knows that we told the boys. He figured it out the other night.

Lois Lane : What'd he say?

Clark Kent : Oh, you know, just that we're making the biggest mistake of our lives.

Lois Lane : See, now I know we're on the right track.

  • Jordan Kent : Dad's taking me to the Fortress today, gonna run some tests, see what powers I have or will have or whatever. Can you imagine if I can fly?

Jonathan Kent : No, not really.

Jordan Kent : What Sarah said about the playbook, what happened?

Jonathan Kent : I mean, I didn't get it, and now I have it, so it's cool.

    Jordan Kent : All right.

    Clark Kent : Ready?

    Jordan Kent : Yeah.

Clark Kent : See you guys later.

Jonathan Kent : Have fun being Superman and Superboy or whatever.

  • Lois Lane : You're really swimming around in that head of yours lately, huh? That stranger in the war suit really got to you, didn't he?

Clark Kent : He seemed to know a lot about Superman. What if he knows about us, the boys, where we live?

Lois Lane : My dad's working on it. He'll find him. And in the meantime, let's just focus on what we came here for: family.

  • General Sam Lane : Sources tell us our armored friend hit a black-market weapons site last night in Moldova.

Clark Kent : What'd he take?

General Sam Lane : Not sure yet. Blew out the whole operation before leaving, though. What'd he say to you, exactly?

Clark Kent : Just what he knew about Superman, and that we'd see each other again.

General Sam Lane : Well, we know how to make that happen. This time, he came in a ship.

Clark Kent : So he brought more than just a war suit with him.

General Sam Lane : He sure did. My guys were able to assign this thing a residence identifier. Goes airborne again, we got him.

  • Jonathan Kent : [seeing Clark and Jordan return home]  Where were you guys all day?

Clark Kent : Go tell him.

  • Lois Lane : What happened at the Fortress?

Jordan Kent : I guess we found out what I always knew. I'm not special.

Clark Kent : Jordan, it is a process. We will go back, we will test you again, and we'll see how you progress over time.

    Jordan Kent : Yeah.

Clark Kent : Maybe he should just stay home.

Jonathan Kent : What? Why? Baby have another bad day?

    Jordan Kent : Screw you.

    Jonathan Kent : No!

    Clark Kent : Boys...

Jonathan Kent : No, I am sick of your crap, okay, Jordan? This is not just about you! I got the shaft.

Clark Kent : Whoa, whoa, whoa. What does that mean?

Jonathan Kent : It means that Don Draper over here kissed Sarah at the bonfire party, so now her dick boyfriend and the entire team are out to get me!

Jordan Kent : That's why you didn't get the playbook?

Jonathan Kent : Yeah, genius. I guess super-perception isn't one of your powers.

Clark Kent : Okay, okay, you know what, Jonathan? You and I, we can go out front. We can run plays.

Lois Lane : No, babe, not right now. Listen, sweetie, I am sorry about the playbook. That really sucks. And I'm sorry going to the Fortress didn't meet your expectations. You're probably so disappointed, but now's not the time to wallow in everything that's gone wrong since we came here. We moved here to be closer as a family, and we got invited to this dinner as a family, and we are going as a family, so get dressed.

Clark Kent : You heard your mother.
