NBCUniversal is diving back into the free TV realm. Months after the company discontinued its free streaming tier of Peacock, Variety reports that NBCU is launching a bundle of free ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) channels in July, spanning multiple genres and with content from most of NBCU’s channels.
The new Fast channels will initially be available on Amazon’s free streaming platform Freevee, as well as Xumo Play, the joint venture that NBCU’s parent company Comcast is building with fellow cable provider Charter Communications. No specific date was provided for the launch of the channels, but they are slated to be available sometime next month.

CNBC has lost some of its avarice for the long-running primetime series “American Greed.”
The documentary program, which examines white-collar crime, scams and embezzlement, among other business-focused wrongdoing, has been running on the NBCUniversal business-news channel since 2007, completing 15 seasons and 222 episodes, along with three spin-offs. In 2023, however, the series order was significantly smaller than those in the past, according to two people familiar with the matter, and production of original episodes has ceased for the moment.
“CNBC has not canceled ‘American Greed,'” the network said in a statement. Six new episodes ran between January 24 and March 7 of this year. Past seasons have included 12 episodes or more, according to one of the people familiar with the program
CNBC and the production company behind “American Greed,” Kurtis Productions, declined to make executives available for comment. It is possible that CNBC could run repeats of the show.

If you have a taste for lurid news you probably know that Alex Murdaugh is currently on trial in Walterboro, South Carolina, for the murder of his wife and younger son. It’s the kind of story that makes true-crime mavens drool: a once-prominent, now-disgraced lawyer is charged with bloody heinousness. Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, a new three-part Netflix docuseries, is either incredibly timely or brazenly opportunistic — or, most likely, both. It provides a crash course in the scandals and deaths that have engulfed the old-money Murdaugh family for years,...

Money Court has heard its last case. CNBC has canceled the series, the news coming shortly after the cable network pulled the plug on Jay Leno’s Garage. The cancellations are part of a shift in strategy for CNBC. According to Deadline — which reported the demise of Money Court — CNBC is “moving out of original, primetime entertainment programming.” As another part of that shift, CNBC execs Denise Contis and Timothy Kuryak will exit the network, along with marketing execs and other higher-ups at the network. Contis was executive vice president and head of content for CNBC Primetime, while Kuryak was executive producer at CNBC Prime. Now CNBC will fill in the gaps in its schedule with repeats of Shark Tank, Undercover Boss, American Greed, and other shows, Deadline adds. CNBC announced Money Court in May 2021, bringing Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary, trial attorney Katie Phang, and former judge Ada Pozo...

Apple TV+ doesn't lack in the quality documentaries department. Outside of its award-winning original content like "Coda" and "Ted Lasso," the streamer is behind some incredible documentary films and series, with the upcoming "The Big Conn" among them. The docuseries centers on disgraced lawyer Eric Conn, who managed to pull off one of the biggest fraud schemes in United States history by "conning" the Social Security Administration, leaving hundreds of victims in his path. Conn didn't get away with his money-making crimes for long, however. With the first three episodes of the series hitting Apple TV+ on May 5, here's everything we know about the whereabouts of Conn now.
Who Is Eric Conn?
Conn launched his law office in Stanville, Ky, in 1993, according to CNBC's "American Greed." The small community is historically known to be the heart of the coal industry in that region.

Two-year pauses are always tricky for TV shows. Sometimes, they’re much-needed breaks so that a series’ creative team can gear up for another round of storytelling. In other cases, it’s a surefire opportunity to lose momentum.
Of course, “Better Call Saul,” like many of the other benchmark television dramas currently airing, had to put plans on hold when productions around the world went dark in 2020. As the show’s most recent season was airing, it would be almost another year entirely before “Better Call Saul” went back to Albuquerque to finish the connective tissue between it and its predecessor, “Breaking Bad.”

Bill Kurtis can’t go on vacation without strangers recognizing him and inquiring about old Cold Case Files episodes that still haunt them.
“They walk up to me and say, ‘Whatever happened to that 18-year-old whose body was found?’ and I swear to God, I can’t remember all 137 episodes,” Kurtis confesses to TVLine. “So I nod my head and say, ‘That’s Episode 79. That was chilling,’ just to keep things moving. And it works most of the time. That’s my life.”

Grayson Stroud, an independent film producer and director, pleaded guilty on Monday to defrauding lenders out of $550,000.
Stroud — who was charged under his legal name, Troy Rustill Stroud — admitted that he moved money between various shell companies in order to dupe lenders into believing that he was engaged in legitimate business.
Stroud produced or directed several films between 2013 and 2019, including “The Power of Love” starring Vivica Fox, “Patterns of Attraction” and “A Holiday Change.” The films were produced through his company, Stroud Entertainment.
The financial crimes were not related to his film production work.
Under the plea agreement, Stroud acknowledged that he used the loan proceeds to pay for personal expenses, and paid others to pretend to be officers of his dummy corporations. Investigators believe the lenders lost as much as $1 million.
The FBI began its investigation after receiving a complaint from a lender who had sued for breach of a loan agreement.

Comcast and NBCUniversal are pushing Peacock out of the nest starting Wednesday, April 15, promising to unfurl a rich plume of 15,000-plus hours of streaming content, first for the cable giant’s own TV and internet customers.
Peacock is then slated to be available across the U.S. on July 15 — while NBCU is mulling the possibility of moving that up sooner — in various three tiers across mobile, web and connected-tv devices: paid with ads ($4.99 monthly); paid with no ads ($9.99 monthly); and completely free with ads with a truncated content lineup. With the national launch, Comcast (and Cox) subscribers also will have the option to get an ad-free version of the service for an additional $5 per month.
So what’s on the menu? Peacock will include live and on-demand content across current and past TV shows, movies, news, and late night programming, with some live sports once they resume post-pandemic. Most of...

Two of the top executives in charge of Peacock, the streaming service launching Wednesday for Comcast subscribers, said it remains on track to hit financial and usage targets despite the massive disruption of Covid-19.
Matt Strauss, chairman of Peacock and NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises and Dana Strong, president of consumer services for Comcast Cable, said there has been “no material change” to initial guidance. At an investor day in January, NBCU and Comcast execs forecast 30 to 35 million active users of Peacock by 2024.
Peacock is joining an increasingly crowded streaming field, with Disney, Apple and Quibi launching streaming initiatives in the past few months.

According to the official announcement of the move, the rebrand will “continue the mission of Escape,” which targets women 25 to 54 with true-crime-focused programming.

As a sister network to Court TV, Court TV Mystery will feature a lineup of mainstays like The First 48, Forensic Files, American Greed, FBI Files, Crime Watch Daily and Unsolved Mysteries. While we all wish that those ridiculous pop-up ads and promotional flyers claiming we've won a prize were actually real, they're always bogus. Yet, there comes a time in an aging man's life when the chance to be rewarded, and to achieve what you never did, conjures an unrelenting hopefulness, which a scam -- no matter how blatant -- could ever extinguish.
In Alexander Payne's "Nebraska," Woody Grant (Bruce Dern) is that aging man, one who receives a certificate in the mail claiming he's won a million-dollar sweepstakes. Resolute in claiming his prize, Woody leaves his home in Montana for Lincoln, Nebraska -- even if it means walking there.
His wife (June Squibb) can't handle Woody's stubborn antics, so she calls her two sons David (Will Forte) and Ross (Bob Odenkirk) to help her out. When they fail to hammer any sense into Woody, Dave reluctantly decides to entertain...
