The Flash has become a soap opera
jacksutarno7 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show does an amazing job and doing nothing. This was another filler episode if it wasn't noticeable. They started the episode off with a good sense of urgency, for once everyone seemed to be on board with either finding a way out of the mirror-verse or creating the artificial speed force...and yet the only progression we get in these storylines comes in the final minutes of the episode.

I'm not a fan about how they keep changing history on the flash...one flaw that I noticed was that Barry was able to throw lightning in the flashback from season 1...even though he doesn't learn that until season 2. Even if crisis changes that then why doesn't it change anything else...like potentially letting Barry's dad survive???

Hartley was actually my favourite character this episode, his witty sarcasm was definitely needed and his and Cisco's hate for each other is always comedically enjoyable. I can't believe that they had to wait 30 minutes into the episode before they revealed that Hartley and Roderick were in love...I don't know about everyone else but I kind of put that together when Cisco was explaining the whole bridge situation.

Barry also showcased a TON of speed this episode, which gave me a 50/50 enjoyment factor because finally the flash was back! But also confuses me as to why he was able to use so much speed here in comparison to the last few episodes. Also why does every speedster have so many cool abilities and Barry can only throw a bolt of lightning...they seem to understand the mechanics of how these speedsters do this stuff because they are able to come up with counter solutions. And yet Barry doesn't ever go like wow maybe that might be useful to at least know how to do some of that stuff.

When they defeat Godspeed and we see his blue lightning blood I got super excited that was the key to Barry retaining some speed or something to do with the artificial speed force. Also if the speed force is dead how does Godspeed have speed...why is that question never asked...and also if they had 4 Godspeed speedsters why weren't they trying to study them in order to make this speedforce? Having Barry draw on a board is not sufficient enough to say they addressed that issue.

I know Hartley helped Barry in the fight but I don't think that was necessarily the mutual agreement they had in mind when they saved his boyfriend...think they would have hoped he would help out with some more important stuff later. Cisco says Hartley left some ideas but Hartley was obviously the smartest person on the show since thawne, so I would have liked to see him stick around for more.

This Caitlin/killer frost side story is just laughable. Calls a 911 message that takes Ralph away from helping work on the urgent issue of helping get everyone out of the mirror-verse, only for it to not be an urgent issue and then Ralph doesn't let Caitlin know that team flash is falling apart and while Barry is trying to save lives he's printing out jokey Dib-plomas???

I hope Nash is somehow able to channel thoughts from the other Wells eventually which will make his character more interesting, his post crisis Allegra story is just boring and irrelevant.

Next weeks episode is the last and I can't help but think we're going to be left disappointed...I know the season was cut short and they couldn't have predicted that but it does look like all the problems are somehow going to get solved in what was going to be episode 22. I thought that Barry and Hartley's pep talk at the end was going to ignite an idea in Barry but no...it was just to get him to do another pep talk for team flash. I'm happy he's getting back to being a leader...but this was not necessary.

Also now that every superhero is on the same earth I can't help but think that Barry without his speed wouldn't call Kara or someone...I guess they'd rather just let more people die...

Don't think they thought the after effects of crisis through that much and it seems the writers just write these on an episode to episode basis without having a plan for the season. Eva also just took a good old break this episode...there's absolutely no explanation of why she didn't just go straight to her husband and start punishing him.

I hope Barry gets his speed back next episode, I hope iris and Camilla get out of the mirror verse but I think that's just asking the flash to work too fast for their capabilities...see you all next week!

Really half-baked
berndschuller6 May 2020
This episode is half great and half terrible. The action scenes with Godspeed and Pied Piper are well done, and that part of the story is entertaining as well. However at least half the episode consists of repetitive pep talks and rather boring monologues, complete with cheesy music.

Godspeed's rather underwhelming return!
RahulM0076 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The penultimate episode of the Flash entitled "Pay the Piper" was mostly filler and included various pep talks between characters. The long awaited return of Godspeed turned out to be a tad disappointing, as he did not appear as much as I imagined. The rest of the episode was quite solid. I loved the various pep talks sprinkled throughout the episode. 6 seasons in, and the Flash is riding high with an over abundance of pep talks.

Godspeed made his return in this episode. The final battle where the Flash teams up with Hartley Rathaway to defeat Godspeed was amazing. It would have been better if we got a bigger tease of what's to come regarding the Godspeed character and how he will pose an even bigger threat to Team Flash in season 7. Will he be the main villain for season 7?

Hartley Rathaway aka Pied Piper returned this episode. It was such a delight seeing this character again. This episode finally revealed why Hartley and the Flash are enemies. It turned out that the Flash put Hartley's boyfriend in a coma. Luckily, Team Flash figured out how to save him.

The moment between Ralph and Killer Frost was tremendously sweet and further proves how far their relationship evolved. It was quite evident that the writers were trying to hide Danielle Panabaker's pregnancy belly in this episode. Killer Frost was rather inactive this episode, as she is still recuperating from the events that unfolded. Kudos to the Flash writers for not letting Danielle Panabaker's pregnancy affect Caitlin/Killer Frost's storyline.

After Iris made the shocking discovery that Eva McCulloch has been manipulating and deceiving her, she set out to find a way to escape the Mirrorverse. But first she needed to find Kamila and Chief Singh. I doubt Iris will reunite with Barry in episode 19 (the new season finale), as she hasn't found Chief Singh and a way out of the Mirrorverse yet. Will Barry somehow enter the Mirrorverse and save Iris? Is this going to be the new season finale cliffhanger?

To conclude, this episode proved to be a solid penultimate episode. While not as groundbreaking and awesome as last week's episode, it still had an intriguing storyline. Even though, the return of Godspeed was a little underwhelming, he is still a good villain, but needs more character development. Hopefully, he will be more fleshed out in season 7. What organisation is Godspeed trying to serve?

Final verdict: 8.0/10

GODSPEED RETURNS!
masterlukewharris5 May 2020
Wow! I must say for a penultimate episode, this one really hit the mark. Godspeed was great and really brought back the Season 1 feel of a speedster villain. This episode felt more like The Flash that we knew back in the earlier seasons. The Iris story line was ok but worked well. Overall: 9.1/10

"But you have to do more than just forgive yourself, you have to believe that your world can change. That's the part that i forgotten"

What an episode! Filled with intense, epicness and sadness.

What really does it is Godspeed, Pied Piper and the directing of Amanda Tapping. It's very splendid. And such a great camera works all over the episode. The visuals also really stands out, it's wonderful. The soundtrack was pleasant. Andy really does a superb acting!

Yeah, everything was beyond awesome! Can't wait for the next week. A perfect 10/10 ep.

This was a great episode for the cast. It's funny because the cast especially Grant and Carlos are best friends with Andy.

the whole episode is 1 pep talk
ejr321236 May 2020
Definitely one of the worst episodes this season. The whole episode is just going from cringe "you can do it" pep talk to the next.

Great fights mixed with Pep talk fest
ComicBookNerd2625 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has to hold the record for most pep talks, not only were there a lot, they were all basically the same. I can handle maybe one or two but any more than that makes me wanna throw up. Moving to the action side of things, all of the fights gave me season one vibes, and after finishing The Godspeed Imperitave Arc in season 7 I'd say this was a good setup.

Pied Piper has a surprisingly compelling story
I'm glad they finally brought back Pied Piper after all this time. This is more than the show has ever done with him than before. This is a real character piece. I also felt Killer Frost had a nice subplot.

The one downside is that this Godspeed subplot (last mentioned in the first episode) is spaced so far apart that I completely and utterly forgot about it.

Actually great! Warning: Spoilers
It wasn't amazing or anything only because it wasn't the REAL GODSPEED but it was still great and actually showed how strong Godspeed can be. I'm interrested as to who "we" are, meaning the one who sent Godspeed. Either it's Reverse-Flash or it's the REAL GODSPEED! 8.8/10.

Strong continuation
elwinpjohn7 May 2020
The story continues to get stronger with a continuation from a beautiful episode last week. Carlos Valdes and Grant Gustin really showed great acting, it's a shame that the series has to end earlier than planned but really excited to see how it ends

Tried to be good but failed logic behind it

Warning: Spoilers
The flash has become one of the dumbest shows ever. I mean at this point its almost an insult to the audience and the fans. In the previous episode Flash didnt even have the speed to dodge the attacks of Iris and now he has the speed to fight a speedster? Really? How dumb is that. I am really insulted by those scriptwriters. Not even to mention the fact that how is it even possible Cecile to acquire the guy from McCulloch tech? I mean cmon...

This episode was great! I think it works pretty good as a penultimate episode and sets up the finale pretty nicely. Godspeed was cool and seeing him fight Barry was sooooo awesome! I also loved seeing Hartley again since he hasn't been on the show since season 2. Overall another great episode and can't wait for next week!

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Pay the Piper
lbramson7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Pied Piper from Season 1 returns with an "Ill scratch your back" situation. The Piper needs a favor from Barry, but in return, Barry needs help to stop Godspeed. This one, much like So Long and Goodnight, is filler and you can skip it. However, I wouldn't recommend skipping it. Sure, it has nothing to do with Eva or the Mirrorverse or even Nash, but it's fun and that's all that matters. This season saw a severe lack of speedster fights, so it was great to get the first speedster battle since 6x01. Going right around middle of the ranking. It's great, but this season has so many great episodes, not everything can earn top ranks. 8/10! Would recommend!

Repetative Drivel wrapped in Codswallop passed off as a TV show
gareth-754428 May 2020
This should be a good show, a superhero juggling taking down the bad guys, doing his day job & handling his day to day life with friends & family while keeping his identity secret, yet week after week its the same BS with every single character having an existential crisis that's worked through with an over boring pep talk, complete & utter garbage. What is even the point of a secret identity when so many are let in on the secret. This is nothing more than a cheesy teen dramady soap opera masqurading as a superhero action show, any semblance of a plot or storyline is childish at best & is over shadowed by the personal dramas of all the supporting characters, of which there are far too many. The whole idea of the flash is watered down with too many "villain" speedsters. I really have no idea what audience this is for, I can only imagine the producers are reading social media forums from people relaying their own existential crisis & confessing how they relate to characters on the show & then have story's written to include those problems so the audience can further relate, yes sounds stupid but the entire show is one existential crisis after another, there is little to no storyline, week after week episode after episode its 5 minutes of action & 35 minutes of yapping drivel. Every single season has the flash either loosing his speed or not being able to run fast enough, it's repetitive junk. Team flash is a joke, the flash is a joke.,CW is a joke. The entire series is far far worse than any Flash comic that DC have ever churned out.

Good idea, bad execution......
damian-ray126 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Why didn't they just work to figure out how to repair the broken Speed Force instead of working to create a new one? They clearly know the dangers of creating an artificial Speed Force substitute so why take the risk of trying to create one?

jamiekressinger11 May 2020
Basically an episode of everyone giving the other person a good pat on the back and a pick me up chat. This has been the worse season of flash so far. Used to really like the show but you can tell it's coming to and end. For the best I guess.

Were Frost's scenes filmed separately?
hasansevik16 May 2020
Not sure about anyone else, but to me it was painfully obvious that Frost and Ralph weren't actually in the same room.

I reckon she's already left the show...
