Funny and enjoyable, the original "House of the Damned" a hard to find gem
shinobi_1016 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I young girl named Liz is having a hard time dealing with the recent untimely death of her father. Her strikingly young looking and attractive mother seems alarmingly indifferent and emotionally disconnected from her daughter. Liz's somewhat derange grandfather tries to convince her that they are really brother and sister and her mother is an evil queen who will kill Liz at midnight and steal her youth to stay young (something she's been doing for a few hundred years apparently). Liz doesn't believe him until all of her friends that she invited to her birthday party and her grandfather, I mean brother excuse me, are all already dead. But wait there is hope as her fathers ghost comes in to direct Liz to where the scroll is so that she can break the curse, however she will have to fight off all of her friends who have come back to life as zombies to try and stop her. This movie features curses, black magic, ghosts, a house coming alive and a rapping zombie. Clearly the director of this movie (Sean Weathers) doesn't take himself or this movie too seriously and neither should anyone watching it. It actually has a surprisingly great score and it's good for some cheap low budget movie thrills with a few laugh out loud moments. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of The Twilight Zone television series or a fan of The Return of the Living Dead and Evil Dead movies.

Excellent movie!!!

A fun low budget horror movie that tries and successfully does cover all of its bases. Haunted house, the undead, witches, ghosts, zombies, curses, demonic possession, black magic and there may be three or four other things I'm leaving out! This movie is closer to an hour rather than the generous seventy two minute running time it's listed as, but there is a lot going on in that time frame. It reminds me of the older Hollywood movies from the thirties which were around an hour or so as well and told a very tight story, maybe because this is shot in black and white as well. The major thing that makes "House Of The Damned" stand out from a lot of crappy low budget horror movies is that as opposed to just moving from site gag to site gag it has an actual story-line to follow and it gets you wrapped up in wanting to know what's going to happen next. So if you are of fan of camp like me this movie is definitely worth a watch.
