It’s eclipse day in America, and if you thought Fox News was going to act normal about it, you were wrong.
The right-wing news network wasted no time on Monday attempting to link the moon’s brief blotting out of the sun to migrant crossings at the Mexico border.
“Fox News alert! A rare celestial event collides with a policy failure on the ground. The southern border is directly in the path of totality today when the moon covers the sun,” host Dana Perino said during Monday’s broadcast of America’s Newsroom.

Dana Perino has long relied on a panel of experts and trusted sources to help guide her sense of the political landscape. Now she’s going to let some followers listen to her conversations with them.
Fox News Audio will launch “Perino on Politics,” a new weekly podcast hosted by the co-host of Fox News Channel’s “The Five” and the co-anchor of its “America’s Newsroom.” The program, which will launch on August 21 — the week of the first debate among Republican presidential candidates — will last throughout the 2024 election cycle, Perino says.
“I would be making these calls anyway,” she says in a brief interview. “It’s like how I used to when I was White House Press Secretary. I would have my team come in and brief me on topics. I still do that today, just with a lot fewer consequences.”
Perino will each week talk to columnists, advisors, pollsters and political strategists.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is running as a Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential race and appeared Wednesday on Fox News, taking aim at the likely Democratic incumbent and current president, Joe Biden.
Christie targeted Biden even after “America’s Newsroom” ran graphics and discussed the fact Donald Trump is not only handily polling ahead of Ron DeSantis but leading a pack of also-rans that include Christie, who was shown as polling at a meager 2% in the Republican race.
“Record inflation, botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, sending the country into an educational tailspin because we’re excluding parents from their children’s education,” Christie reeled off, taking a page out of the DeSantis playbook before show host Bill Hemmer interrupted.
“The border,” Hemmer said, blankly.

Fox News is making some changes to its senior editorial ranks.
The changes, which were announced to staff from Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and president Jay Wallace in a memo Wednesday afternoon, come just a few months after Fox senior VP Alan Komissaroff unexpectedly passed away. Komissaroff died in January of a heart attack.
“As we mark nearly two months since Senior Vice President of News & Politics Alan Komissaroff tragically passed away, we wanted to share news about editorial leadership changes and the components of his position that will be absorbed by his colleagues,” Scott and Wallace wrote in their memo. “We miss Alan every day and are still heartbroken by his loss.”
Among the moves: Tom Lowell, a 20-year veteran of the channel, has been elevated to senior executive VP & managing editor for Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, a role that will have him overseeing all editorial content at both channels.

Ken Starr, the prosecutor who led the relentless Whitewater investigation into then-President Bill Clinton and whose report on the case revealed intimate details of Clinton’s extramarital sexual relations, died Tuesday in Houston following complications from surgery. He was 76.
His death was announced by his family in a statement.
Nominated by former President Ronald Reagan for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Washington, D.C., circuit, Starr was U.S. solicitor general under President George H.W. Bush. He received his greatest public attention – political opponents might say infamy – as independent counsel during the Clinton Administration. Starr had initially been appointed to investigate the suicide of deputy White House counsel Vince Foster and the Whitewater real estate investments of Clinton.
The investigation would grow to encompass much more than its initial mission: After Clinton denied having “sexual relations” with former intern Monica Lewinsky, allegations of perjury...

Dana Perino and Bill Hemmer’s “America’s Newsroom” tenure got off on the wrong foot — quite literally, in Perino’s case.
The Fox News anchor said she was so nervous this morning that she “put my shoes on the wrong feet.”
That’s not exactly a great start to the new gig. Watch Perino and Hemmer open the newly relaunched program via the video above.
Here is the footwear part of the duo’s opening banter:
Perino: But it was a big day for me too, right? So I came here right after I left the White House. I had the opportunity to work on the Daily Briefing as an anchor, but I’ve never had an opportunity like this and I’m thrilled. I will say it was a little bit like the first day of school feeling. So last night I was nervous. Right. And I had all those feelings.

Fox News and some of its top on-camera stars face new accusations of misconduct in a lawsuit filed Monday by two women. One woman accused Ed Henry, a host who was fired by Fox News earlier this month, of sexual assault as well as harassment — while a second woman who frequently appeared as an on-air contributor accused Henry, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Howard Kurtz and others of sexual harassment by dangling the prospect of a full-time job in exchange for suggested sexual favors.
The suit — filed on behalf of Jennifer Eckhart and Cathy Areu in U.S. District Court — also said that Fox News executives were aware of sexual misconduct accusations against Ed Henry in 2017, three years before firing him, and that the network tried to “take credit” for doing the right thing with its July 1 announcement of his termination.

One former Fox News staffer and one frequent on-air guest at the network filed suit in federal court Monday, alleging they had been harassed individually by Ed Henry, the Fox News anchor who was fired by the cable-news outlet earlier this month following a complaint about “willful sexual misconduct in the workplace,” and their disclosures threaten to revive an era that the Fox Corp.-owned media company had hoped to put behind it after the ouster of Roger Ailes.
One of the plaintiffs, Jennifer Eckhart, alleged she was assaulted by Henry, while the other, Cathy Areu, claimed in the filing that Henry sent her sexually graphic photos and messages. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York by the Wigdor LLC law firm, which has represented several Fox News staffers in the past in complaints that alleged sexual or racial discrimination at the company.

Bill Hemmer has for years helped boost some of the best-known personnel on Fox News Channel. Now he’s about to get his own spotlight.
Hemmer on Monday will take over Fox News’ 3 p.m. slot. That’s the time period previously anchored by Shepard Smith. The one that’s supposed to be the showcase for the network’s newsgathering operations. The one Smith left abruptly in October after sparring on-air with Tucker Carlson, one of the network’s primetime opinion hosts.
Hemmer isn’t sweating it. He expects his new show, “Bill Hemmer Reports,” to focus on the stories of the day and not on the opinions expressed around him. “My feeling is, I let them do what they do and they allow me to do what I do,” says the 55-year-old of the network’s primetime lineup in what people who know him say is his usual unflappable tone.

Fox News Channel anchor Bill Hemmer ("America's Newsroom"), who headlined much of the network's coverage of the Newtown, Conn., shootings, is looking ahead to his next big assignment -- co-anchoring New Year's Eve coverage from New York City's Times Square.
"Listen -- we're looking forward to another good year," Hemmer tells Zap2it, a sinus infection making his voice sound ragged. "We've had a lot of big stories and a lot of challenges in 2012, as you well know. As a country, here's to hoping for a much better 2013."
What with the Newtown tragedy, the looming fiscal cliff, political bickering, violence breaking out around the country and the world, and the general anemic state of the economy, it's not the most trouble-free of holiday seasons.
But, says Hemmer, that won't dampen the enthusiasm of those who brave hours in the cold to watch the sparkling ball drop in Manhattan.
