Was inspired by the true story of Mohammad Reza Shokri, a man who returned a bag of cash he found while on a leave from a debtors' prison in Shiraz.
According to Asghar Farhadi, this is his first film in which "there is nothing hidden," no secret to be uncovered.
Mohammad Reza Shokri, whom the story of the film is based on, sued Farhadi for defamation, but this was dismissed by a court.
When asked why he chose the city of Shiraz for the setting of the film, Ashgar Farhadi responded by saying that "it represents the glory of the past, which Iranians are very nostalgic about these days, because of the pre-Islamic heroes and monuments, but also the great Islamic poets that came later. It represents a kind of national pride, and the weight of this pride gives a specific connotation to the theme of the film, an aspect that it wouldn't have got if it had taken place in Tehran."
Official submission of Iran for the 'Best International Feature Film' category of the 94th Academy Awards in 2022.
