Netflix fights fire with fire in its upcoming remake of a suspense classic. Here’s a trailer for The Wages Of Fear.
The Wages Of Fear, the 1953 classic suspense thriller directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, has already had one remake: William Friedkin’s Sorcerer, released in 1977. Both are intense, immersive films with grime on their skin and dirt under their fingernails, which makes it all the more odd that Netflix’s upcoming remake – also called The Wages Of Fear – has that pristine, flatly-lit look of an Expendables sequel.
The plot remains the same; it’s about a quartet of misfits who – in exchange for a big chunk of cash – agree to ferry trucks of high explosives across a rugged landscape. Their mission: to set off a huge detonation in the hopes of extinguishing an oil well fire.
This latest version is directed by Julien Leclercq, whose previous work includes the action thrillers Braquers,...

Prime Video’s French movie Sentinelle, written and directed by Hugo Benamozig and David Caviglioli, is a laugh riot, with hilarious performances and some great comedic dialogue. Comedies are a bland genre these days, but the French movie is one of the most rollicking comedies to have come out in recent times. What’s great is that there is a cohesive plot as well, which enhances the characters and brings out the laughs. The movie is a fun ride throughout as we follow the cop/singer François Sentinelle on his adventures while solving a case for the President of Réunion Island. The titular character is a complete buffoon, and how he has kept his job for over twenty years as the Chief of Police is beyond anyone’s guess. But once he gets a case of importance, his days seem numbered.

While unveiling its slate of new French originals and acquisitions on Monday, Prime Video announced that it would skip a French theatrical release for “Challengers,” Luca Guadagnino’s anticipated tennis drama. The film, which stars Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and “West Side Story” star Mike Faist, will still be released in theaters in all other territories.
During a posh press event hosted at the Pavillon Royal on the outskirts of Paris, Brigitte Ricou-Bellan, Prime Video’s country managing director for France, said the strategic move by the Amazon streamer resulted from France’s notoriously strict windowing rules, which demands streamers to wait 15 to 17 months after a theatrical roll out before making a new film available on their services. The rule has led other studios to opt to skip French cinemas for new releases before, such as Disney’s decision to debut “Strange World” on streaming.
“We’re a strong partner for French cinema and well-established talent.

Photo: ‘Sentinelle’/Netflix There have been many shows and films in recent years that have focused on the effects of different kinds of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder. 2020’s ‘Promising Young Woman’ looked at how Ptsd from being close to a sexual assault influences an individual’s actions, the upcoming film ‘Cherry’ examines how Ptsd from a war zone affects soldiers returned from war, and Netflix’s new film ‘Sentinelle’ combines both of those ideas into making this French revenge-thriller. March brings breezes loud and shrill/stirs the dancing daffodil. Bit of poetry for you there. What Sara Coleridge fails to mention is that March also brings season seven of Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Netflix UK, more weekly episodes of Riverdale season five, a brand new sci-fi series from the creators of Misfits, a new film directed by Amy Poehler and a host of cool animated series.
The One (pictured above) is an eight-part British series created by Howard Overman about a near-future world in which a DNA test can track down your perfect partner. It’s adapted from John Marrs’ novel of the same name, and yes, has a strikingly similar premise to US anthology sci-fi Soulmates. "He can't get away with it." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for an action movie from France titled Sentinelle, starring the French-Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko. This revenge thriller is about a female soldier who returns to discover that her sister was sexually assaulted. Transferred home after a traumatizing combat mission, a highly trained French soldier uses her lethal skills to hunt down the man who hurt her sister. Klara will do everything to find the attackers and avenge her sister. This merciless hunt will lead her in the footsteps of Yvan Kadnikov, the son of a powerful Russian oligarch of the French Riviera. The film's cast includes Andrey Gorlenko, Michel Biel, and Carole Weyers. This looks gnarly. They're making more and more of these intense revenge stories about women, some are good, some are not that good. This one seems cool - especially with Kurylenko kicking some ass (with a sniper rifle!
