It's election year in Denmark and passionate youth politicians Socialist Maja stands ready on the barricades when she reluctantly falls in love with her political opponent William.
The political opponents William and Maja collide in an election debate at a local high school. Maja quickly wins sympathy among the young spectators and William cannot fail to be captivated by her passion and intelligence.
Several socialists are arrested when a demonstration at a refugee facility derails and William feels that Oskar is trying to take over his position within the party. Maja and William open up about the past and other heartfelt thoughts.
William is pressured to reveal his secret love affair to Oskar while the Socialists prepare a revenge attack on the Liberals after their recent actions. Later that evening, the attack leads to a big conflict between Maja and William.
A live televised debate between Maja and William becomes personal and their entire relationship is put at stake. Maja emerges victorious from the debate and enjoys the attention. William confronts his father and blames him for his defeat.
Election day has come and William drowns his sorrows in alcohol while the parties fight to the last to convince the voters. Maja regrets her televised attack on William and thinks about a way to win him back.
