This film was based on Stuart Elmore's long family owned Roller Rink, West Park Skate Center, located in Huntington Indiana. The rink had been in his family since it first opened in 1973 by his grandfather, whom the 'Dad' character is based on. The film was also shot at the very same roller rink. The business temporarily closed for five days for principle photography.
A large majority of the Chicago-based film crew were housed at the local monastery, Saint Felix Catholic Center; just five minutes away from the roller rink the film was shot at.
