More than two years after Circle of Lies had its North American premiere in Canada on iTunes and cable systems, the producers are still battling to stem the illegal downloading of the teen drama.
When director Matt Cerwen.s film launched on iTunes 11 days later in the Us, the executive producers believe the title had already been viewed more than 350,000 times. Now they estimate the worldwide figure is 1.35 million.
.For a small budget Australian film this is a financial disaster,. John Kearney, who executive produced the independently-financed film with Ian Kirk and David Field, tells If.
.If those illegals were legal at, say, $1.90 per time (average return to the production company) then there would be reason to smile. Ian Kirk has issued seven take-down notices to YouTube and there could be more very soon..

“This is not a documentary,” Alfonso Cuaron said of his new movie Gravity to CollectSpace.com. No kidding. Nobody in a documentary talks the way George Clooney and Sandra Bullock do in this spectacular yet sometimes silly space-set thriller. But I’d love for it to be a gateway to some great documentaries about astronauts and Nasa missions and the like, so I’ve compiled a list of favorites that are relevant to the plot. Sure, I could have opened this week’s Movies to Watch list to fiction films, too, but there is less need for me to highlight obvious movies like Apollo 13 and Space Buddies. Also, I’d like to use this opportunity to give a shout out to Dan Schindel’s Doc Option column over at our sister site Nonfics. This week he chose to recommend two true stories for your listening pleasure that relate to Gravity because they involve spacewalks gone wrong...

Bless you, direct-to-dvd industry, for churning out endlessly amusing extensions of movies that never should have been franchises in the first place. An EW staffer casually mentioned the third Ace Ventura movie earlier today, inspiring a group of us to reminisce about the most random sequels we could think of — sequels many of us were hearing about for the first time.
And so, in honor of both these little-discussed gems and the gift that is Friday afternoon, here’s a list of the genre’s most unassuming entries. Caution: It’s about to get all nostalgic up in here. (Like that’s a surprise.

Black Sunday: Remastered Edition (1960) Lorber Films Blu-ray and DVD Available Now
One of director Mario Bava’s most acclaimed works, Black Sunday is a strikingly photographed “old dark castle” thriller revolving around witchcraft and possession. Barbara Steele (Piranha) gives a hypnotic performance as Katia, the unfortunate look-alike descendent of a witch who intends to possess her. This highly influential film, also shot by Bava, was the precursor to countless American and European gothic horrors. This is the uncut European print with a few extra minutes of footage, a different English track and Robert Nicolosi’s haunting original score. After years of ugly public domain releases, Black Sunday is finally being presented in its original aspect ratio with a high definition transfer struck from a pristine 35Mm archival print.
Special Features:
• Audio commentary by Tim Lucas (author of Mario Bava: All the Colors of the Dark).
• Original Bava theatrical trailers.

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
Writer/director Christopher Nolan once asked the important question, “How many good movies in a franchise can people name?” He was talking at that time about why a sequel to his Dark Knight was not something he was particularly jazzed about, and he had a point. Not only are there some terrible “third” movies in Hollywood, but there are certainly some awful grand finales for great characters, etc.
In honor of the terrible … I give it a 2/10, but Bayer gives it a 8/10 … Shrek Forever After (or Shrek: The Final Chapter, however you want to call it) I have decided to channel my finale frustration into a list of other movies that end their characters and stories on terrible notes (or just terrible films). To qualify for this list, a franchise must have at least three movies in their series – straight to DVD sequels don’t count.

Continuing the money-making franchise that started with Air Buddies, Santa Buddies is a Christmas movie you might want to be a Grinch about and pass by. The dogs that talk include Butterball (Voiced by Josh Flitter), B-Dawg (Skyler Gisondo), Buddha (Field Cate), Rosebud (Liliana Mumy) and, of course, the new kid, um, pup in town, Puppy Paws (voiced by Zachary Gordon). I never watched any of the original Buddies movies, so I might not be the person to write this review. However, my sons loved Space Buddies and now they adore this one. My oldest said to give it 5 stars, but I am not going to go that far. But you can probably deduce that kids...

Stretch too thin. Bend it until it breaks. Overstay your welcome. All are different ways of describing something which goes too far with too little. Some parents will say they like the entertainment the original Air Bud provided for their tots. They may even have been down with Bud’s football-based sequel. But can any of them say that they honestly don’t mind the annoying personas of the five golden retriever pups which comprise the “buddies”? If the Air Buddies premise, the talking puppies of Air Bud, wasn’t the straw that broke the camel’s back, then Space Buddies was. So what does that make Santa Buddies? Shameless. Unabashedly shameless marketing using Christmas and dog jokes that haven’t been funny since your kids read them aloud from that joke book you bought for them (rookie parent mistake).

DreamWorks' hit sequel "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, captured the top spot on the national home video sales charts for the second consecutive week, despite a flurry of challenges from a handful of newly released theatrical features.
These newcomers fared better in rental stores, with Warner Home Video's "Nights in Rodanthe" snagging the No. 1 slot on Home Media Magazine's weekly video rental chart for the week ending Feb. 15.
Even so, "Madagascar" held down the No. 2 spot on the rental chart for the second consecutive week, a rarity for an animated feature, aimed at kids, with high sales appeal.
"Nights in Rodanthe" debuted at No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan sales chart, right behind "Madagascar 2." The romantic drama with Richard Gere and Diane Lane grossed $41.9 million in theaters.
Director Oliver Stone's "W.," fresh from an unspectacular $25.5 million theatrical run, debuted at No. 4 on the sales chart,...

Collections ~ It's Tuesday so there are new box sets available highlighting everything from tired hockey masked killers (you know who) to highly respected thespians (Peter Sellers and Alec Guiness) but the big ... make that B-i-g... deal for The Film Experience is the "Natalie Wood Collection" which includes six films. I haven't seen Bombers B-52 or Cash McCall but even if they're bad you still get to stare at her for two hours. Her beauty justifies most any running time.
Natalie Wood *swoon*
The other four are more notable players in her filmography. There's the Edith Head costumed Helen Gurley Brown comedy Sex and the Single Girl (1964) and two true classics: the musical Gypsy (1962) and the legendary 'Warren Beatty Destroys Lives!' teen angst of the unbeatable Splendor in the Grass (1961). Adventurous movie fanatics might be most interested in getting a good long look at the underseen and idiosyncratic inside...

Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Kevin Smith has finally broken out of the Jay and Silent Bob circle and made a romantic comedy that didn't crumble like Jersey Girl. It's cuter than Clerks 2, but thrives on brief, scene-stealing moments from high-school reunion cameos and Jason Mewes. Rent it on DVD or Blu-ray.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Most of our beloved teen fare comes when music is mixed with turmoil-filled romance and adventure, and Infinite Playlist is no exception. In fact, it hits a lot of different themes all in one -- the gross-out factor from flicks like American Pie, the quirky music loving of Empire Records, ex meddling like Some Kind of Wonderful, and a rather refreshing attitude towards sexuality. Buy it on DVD or Blu-ray.

DVD Links: DVD News | Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed This week the releases are rather lackluster outside of one title I recommend all of you buy. However, there are some new release dates added at the bottom of the article you may be interested in, as well as a note from the Digital Bits giving us a few rumors saying Paramount plans on bringing the Indiana Jones Trilogy to Blu-ray release this holiday season and that DreamWorks will be delivering Collateral to Blu-ray in the next few months. Since I love Collateral this is exciting news and owning the actually good Indy films on Blu-ray will be a treat. Other than that, I give you the latest releases. Being There (Deluxe Edition) The only movie I would recommend everyone buy this week is Being There, a movie that proves Forrest Gump wasn't as amazing and original as everyone...

Children’s fare has changed from what I enjoyed as a kid. For me, animated talking turtles slinging one liners and nun chucks sufficed; if you believe Disney’s Space Buddies, today’s tikes require a more advanced form of talking animal. Apparently, the bar has been raised. If you consider Labradors with CGI enhanced mouths as raising the bar. A quintet of “talking” Labradors find themselves launched into space after the field trip of their child owners becomes more participatory than originally planned. Rosebud the lone female, B-Dawg the obnoxious gangsta’ talkin’ puppy, Buddha the sublimely at peace leader dog, Butterball the thickheaded and diabetes-bound dog and Mudbud, the compulsive mud rolling puppy form the quintet which quickly becomes a sextet after lodging with the abandoned Ussr space station after an in flight malfunction where the meet the resident mutt, Spudnik. Get it? Witty, I know. After a catastrophic...
