Baldness is an inevitable aspect of aging for many men, or at least a result of their genetic makeup. However, going bald does not imply losing one’s attractive appearance. For example, Dwayne Johnson, 51, is a perfect example of how going ‘bald’ is just another style. Did we forget to mention his strong, muscle-bound physics, which is a sight to behold for anyone?
Well, his avid admirers are likely to picture him as the bald, ripped guy whom we all adore. But the Baywatch star did not always have such massive, superhuman-like muscles. Indeed, he was just one of us, regular folks, with no muscular pecs or curved arms, or, we can say, just “skinny” Rock.

A recently unearthed throwback picture of a young Johnson with a head full of hair caused everyone to do a double-take.

Writer Jen D’Angelo got her start working on episodes of shows Workaholics, Cougar Town, and Young Rock, and now she’s on a streak of successfully getting her feature scripts brought to the screen. She wrote the long-awaited sequel Hocus Pocus 2, the time travel slasher Totally Killer, and the newly released comedy Quiz Lady – and next on her to-do list is Hocus Pocus 3. D’Angelo has previously teased that the new sequel could bring Hannah Waddingham back as her Hocus Pocus 2 character The Witch Mother, and during an interview with Collider she also gave a hint as to what could bring the Sanderson Sisters back into action, seeking revenge against Salem.
D’Angelo said, “I have my theories about what we could see (in Hocus Pocus 3), and what things mean and where we could take these characters. It’s interesting to be like, ‘Now we have even...

Hello, and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast. I am Valerie Complex Associate editor and film writer at Deadline!
Now I’ve been off and on for a while, personal tragedies, the actors and writer strike, other work projects held me back for a bit, but I am back with a whole new lineup of guests. Today I am chatting with director Nahnatchka Khan about her latest horror slasher film Totally Killer. It debuted on Prime Video on October 6, and stars Kiernan Shipka, Olivia Holt, Julie Bowen and Randall Park.
Written by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver and Jen D’Angelo, Totally Killer follows the shocking murder of three teens, as the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer“ returns on Halloween night to claim a fourth victim. Jamie (Shipka) ignores her overprotective mom’s (Bowen) warning and comes face to face with the masked maniac and while running for her life, accidentally time travels...

If you look at Nahnatchka Khan's filmography, you won't see many titles suggesting she'd be a good fit for a bloody slasher movie. However, you will see plenty of titles that suggest she'd be ideal for a time traveling comedy about mothers and daughters, and how culture has shifted over the past 30 years. The fact that she can deliver a nasty slasher sequence in the new horror comedy "Totally Killer" will leave fans of her past work a little dizzy.
"Totally Killer" is built around one heck of a high concept pitch: What if a modern teen (Kieran Shipka), grieving the death of her murdered mother, goes back in time to the '80s to stop the killer's initial reign of terror, lower the body count, and ensure her mom's survival in the present? It's "Back to the Future" with a body count, leaning on '80s tropes without ever getting too nostalgic.

If you mixed Back to the Future and Halloween, or if The Final Girls had involved traveling in time instead of into a movie, the results might be something like Totally Killer. It’s a time traveling spoof of slasher movies from Blumhouse who already visited this territory with Happy Death Day and its sequel.
The fact it was from Blumhouse was just one of the reasons I debated watching Totally Killer. It was directed by Nahnatchka Khan who is best known for Always Be My Maybe and Young Rock and had no genre experience. Similarly, the three writers David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver (Let’s Get Married) and Jen D’Angelo were lacking in that regard as well. But since it...

Back in 2015, just as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was cementing his status as one of the world's biggest movie stars, the wrestler-turned-actor starred in the highly successful disaster flick "San Andreas." This was actually one of the movies that proved Johnson could help open a big blockbuster outside of a major franchise. He had earned the reputation of being "franchise Viagra" given what he was able to do for "Fast & Furious," "G.I. Joe," and other established properties.
"San Andreas" sees the infamous San Andreas Fault finally give, which triggers a massive magnitude 9 earthquake in California. Rescue helicopter pilot Raymond Gaines (Johnson) and his estranged wife must then make their way from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their daughter. It was a huge success, taking in $474 million worldwide against a $110 million budget. That being the case, Warner Bros. was very quick to announce a squeal back in early 2016. But all these years later,...

Two of Hollywood’s biggest WWE Superstars, John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, have returned to the squared circle as the ongoing WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes continue. On September 15, on a random Friday Night SmackDown episode, The Rock returned in front of an unsuspecting Denver crowd. He received standing ovations, as The Rock repeatedly said how good it felt to be home. And who could blame him? His current standings in Hollywood has taken a bit of a hit, and that’s before you consider the lack of roles, appearances, and projects to promote due to the strike. NBC also let go of Dwayne Johnson’s autobiographical series Young Rock. It showcased the wrestler-turned-actor in different chapters in his life, from his upbringing, playing football for the University of Miami, to becoming a wrestling star. With his show ending, Black Adam flopping, his XFL losing $60 million, and having to...

"I need to stop all this horror before it happens." Amazon's Prime Video has revealed an official trailer for a horror film titled Totally Killer, made by TV filmmaker Nahnatchka Khan (also of "Fresh Off the Boat" and "Young Rock"). It'll be screening at the Popcorn Frights Film Festival this fall, before heading straight to streaming online - not in theaters. When the infamous "Sweet Sixteen Killer" returns 35 years after his first murder spree to claim another victim, 17-year-old Jamie accidentally travels back to 1987, determined to stop the killer before he can start. It is "the must-see slasher-comedy film of spooky season," their press release says. Time-travel to the 1980s and experience culture shock through Jamie's eyes. Starring Kiernan Shipka as Jamie, as well as Olivia Holt, Charlie Gillespie, Lochlyn Munro, Troy L. Johnson, Liana Liberato, Kelcey Mawema, Stephi Chin-Salvo, Anna Diaz, Ella Choi, with Randall Park and Julie Bowen.

“Totally Killer” is the latest meta-slasher from the good folks at Blumhouse, who are also responsible for “Happy Death Day” and “Freaky”. And the trailer (which you can watch above) promises another knowing, blood-soaked romp, with a teenager (Kiernan Shipka) traveling back to 1987 to stop a sadistic killer from eventually murdering her mom. How’s that for a log line?
The trailer shows our young heroine (Shipka) traveling back in time via a magical photo booth (?) and then having to deal with not only the death of her mother’s young friends but also the knowledge that the killer survives and murders her mother in the present. Of course there are a bunch of jokes about what the future is like and how tubular the 1980s were, with a supporting cast that includes Julie Bowen, Olivia Holt (who faced a similar mystery in Freeform’s “Cruel Summer”), Lochlyn Munro and Randall Park.

Themba Gorimbo is feeling incredibly blessed nowadays.
The 32-year-old began making headlines as a breakout up-and-coming UFC welterweight fighter after his first win in the promotion over Takashi Sato in May went viral. The fighter then decided to auction off his fight kit, with the proceeds going to build a bush pump in his village in Zimbabwe and provide clean water for the people there.

Dwayne Johnson reflected on his tough relationship with his late dad Rocky in an emotional Father’s Day video on Sunday.
The “Black Adam” star shared a positive video message about the joys of being a dad, before he took to Instagram to get real with his fans about those who might not have a dad to wish Happy Father’s Day to.
Admitting the day could be “a tricky thing that we have to contend with” while addressing dads without dads, he added, “Especially if there’s a lot of guys out there, like me, who had a tough love, complicated relationship with our fathers. I had that with my old man, I know a lot of you guys did as well. So it’s tricky, because they’re not here now and we wish they were.”

“Young Rock” is done.
NBC made the decision official on Friday, canceling the half-hour comedy series inspired by Dwayne Johnson’s life after three seasons.
“Young Rock” followed young Dwayne Johnson as he navigated his rise from unknown wrestler to Hollywood superstar. Together, Dwayne and his unorthodox family faced locker room politics, new rivalries and the perils of burgeoning fame as he found his voice in the WWE as The Rock. Told through stories from his own life, the show followed Dwayne’s journey to the top and the characters that kept him grounded — even as he set his sights on ever-bigger arenas.
Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant and Uli Latukefu played young Dwayne during various stages of his childhood. Joseph Lee Anderson portrayed Dwayne’s late father, Rocky, while Stacey Leilua played his mother, Ata.
The show wrapped its third (and now final) season Feb. 24, averaging less than 2 million viewers per episode.

ABC has opted not to give series orders to four pilots, including legal drama “Public Defenders” starring Anthony Anderson, but will decide the fate of three other pilots, including “The Good Doctor” spinoff “The Good Lawyer,” at a later date, the network confirmed Friday.
The other pilots that won’t move forward to series include the medical drama “The Hurt Unit,” starring Benjamin McKenzie and Melissa George, the Ellie Kemper-led comedy “Keeping It Together” and “Judgement” with “Sex/Life” star Sarah Shahi.
ABC Signature will shop “The Hurt Unit” to other platforms and 20th Television will try to find new homes for “Public Defenders” and “Judgement,” Deadline reported.

ABC is passing on its pilots.
The network has passed on Anthony Anderson-fronted Public Defenders and Ellie Kemper-led Keeping It Together, which is a remake of British comedy Motherland, as well as dramas The Hurt Unit, starring Melissa George and Ben McKenzie, and Judgement starring Sex/Life’s Sarah Shahi.
ABC Signature is, however, planning to shop The Hurt Unit to other networks and platforms, while 20th Television will be shopping Public Defenders and Judgement.
The move comes as it still has decisions to make on series Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds as well as The Good Lawyer, which was a backdoor pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor.
Last month, ABC handed a series order to Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson. The project, which is based on the popular French detective series Hip, was the clear front-runner all development season.

Hours after NBC made decisions on the bulk of its bubble comedy fare, ABC has passed on nearly all of its remaining pilots.
The Disney-backed broadcaster has passed on dramas The Hurt Unit and Judgment as well as comedies Keeping It Together (formerly Drop-Off) and Public Defenders, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Of the four drama and two comedy pilots that ABC developed this season, only the Good Doctor spinoff, The Good Lawyer, remains in contention. (Kaitlin Olson drama High Potential was previously ordered to series.)
Also remaining on the bubble are comedy Home Economics (awaiting word on a fourth season) and The Rookie spinoff, Feds (awaiting word on season two). Sources say producers ABC Signature is expected to shop medical drama The Hurt Unit, which counts Ben McKenzie and Michelle Ortiz among its cast.
Reps for ABC declined comment.
The decisions come as options on the cast for pilots...

The fate of American Auto is still up in the air, but NBC has confirmed the fate of half-hour comedies Grand Crew and Young Rock. Grand Crew, starring Echo Kellum, Nicole Byer, Aaron Jennings, Justin Cunningham, Carl Tart, and Grasie Mercedes, is closing shop after just two seasons. The third season of Young Rock – based on the life of Dwayne Johnson and starring/executive produced The Rock – is the series’ final season, as NBC has opted not to renew the comedy for season four.
Filling one of the now vacated primetime slots will be St. Denis Medical, a new mockumentary-style comedy that’s just been given a series order by the network. NBC’s announcement of the scheduling moves included this description of the new show: “A mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed...

Sorry, Dwayne Johnson. You’ve been canceled. NBC announced today that they have canceled Young Rock after three seasons.
Young Rock spanned decades of Dwayne Johnson’s life, chronicling his beginnings as a headstrong kid to playing football at the University of Miami to the early days of his professional wrestling career. Dwayne Johnson also plays a future version of himself who is running for president of the United States in the 2032 election. The series started off strong, averaging 3 million viewers per episode in its first season, but the third and now final season of the series found those numbers tumbling to an average of 1.4 million viewers per episode.
In addition to Dwayne Johnson as himself, Young Rock also starred Joseph Lee Anderson as Rocky Johnson, Stacey Leilua as Ata Johnson, Ana Tuisila as Lia Maivia, Adrian Groulx as 10 to 14-year-old Dwayne aka Dewey, Bradley Constant as 15 to 17-year-old Dwayne,...

NBC is moving and shaking this Friday afternoon.
As reported by Variety, the network has greenlit a new series while canceling two established ones.
NBC is saying goodbye to Young Rock and Grand Crew while saying hello to St. Denis Medical.
Young Rock was the series based on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson through various stages in his life.
Three different actors portrayed Johnson in addition to himself in the series that has been airing since 2021.
Grand Crew followed a group of Black friends as they unpacked life’s ups and downs at their favorite watering hole, a wine bar in Los Angeles.
Grand Crew also premiered in 2021.
The fate of their fellow traveler American Auto has yet to be decided, but we know of at least one show that could be picking up the next leg of their journey.
NBC has ordered St. Denis Medical, from the minds behind Superstore and American Auto to series.
