According to the promotional material. Billie Piper plays Suzie, a teenage pop star who turned actress who found fame in a sci-fi show.
The series was co-devised by Piper so she did not have to look far. It is made by Bad Wolf productions, which was founded by two of the BBC Executives of the relaunched Doctor Who series.
Suzie has just got a part in a Disney show. She is chuffed that she will be a Disney Princess. Her happiness is short lived as Suzie receives news that naked photos of her are online.
Suzie has been hacked, a film crew arrives to take publicity photos of her for the Disney production. Soon her husband Cob finds out that whatever Suzie is sucking does not belong to him.
With the film crew glued to their phones, her husband getting irate, Suzie can only rely on her agent Naomi.
This is a fast and frenetic opening episode which does capture Suzie's shock and confusion. The compromising photos will ruin her Disney deal but you get the feeling that there is more to it. We soon find that out with Cob's reaction.
Of course we live in a world where both celebrities and non celebrities have naughty photos on their computer or phone. Heck some celebrities pray that their sex footage appears online so they can live off the infamy. I can see this was the reason the Disney Princess stuff was included to raise the stakes.
On the basis of the first episode, it is hard to sympathise with Suzie and instead side with Cob who has been betrayed. I think future episodes will make that appear to be a simple assumption.
However this is a series that might follow a similar path to Fleabag. A female protagonist who may be hard to root for.
