At the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, Paula Beer won the Silver Bear for Best Actress for her performance as Undine.
Undines (or ondines) are a category of elemental beings associated with water, stemming from the alchemical writings of Paracelsus. Later writers developed the undine into a water nymph in its own right, and it continues to live in modern literature and art through such adaptations as Danish Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" and the Undine of Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué.
The coffee shop that Undine and Johannes name being "our café" is not actually a coffee shop, but the side entrance of the Märkisches Museum. However, the museum does host a courtyard café that is accessed via that entrance.
This is the second collaboration between Paula Beer and Franz Rogowski. They previously appeared together in Transit (2018), another Christian Petzold film.
