Felicity Jones has to be one of the most talented young actresses in British cinema at the moment.
During the last few years she’s impressed in the likes of Cemetery Junction, Hysteria and Albatross, while scoring mainstream success with Chalet Girl and being met with great critical recognition for her part in the Sundance breakout Like Crazy.
This month she can be seen in the lead role in Cheerful Weather For The Wedding (Out Now) which she stars in alongside an impressive British cast which includes Elizabeth McGovern, Luke Treadaway, Ellie Kendrick and MacKenzie Crook. We spoke to Felicity about her new film and some of the other projects she’s been working on.

Title: Cheerful Weather for the Wedding Director: Donald Rice Starring: Felicity Jones, Luke Treadaway, Elizabeth McGovern, Mackenzie Crook, Fenella Woolgar, Zoë Tapper, Julian Wadham, Sophie Stanton, Ellie Kendrick, Olly Alexander, James Norton A very mannered but deadly dull period piece drama of partially upended, stuffy social customs in which things like, “Dolly, dearest Dolly!” are earnestly exclaimed, “Cheerful Weather for the Wedding” is a ruinous vehicle for the incandescence of Felicity Jones. What could on the surface be something lively and spry, a la Oliver Wilde, is instead neither a spirited tale of romantic competition nor a hand-wringing story of fated love. It just lays there, at once familiar and [ Read More ]

Another week has come to an end and the reviews are in. Unsurprisingly, it seems like it was another dismal week in entertainment -- at least for the critics.
The glitter-soaked soldier Ke$ha made her return to music this week with the her album "Warrior." Though filled with a few uptempo gems, Ke$sha's autotune offenses left some critics turned off by the overall sound of the album. Rapper Wiz Khalifa put forth a strong effort with "O.N.I.F.C.," but it wasn't enough to mask the album's lack of innovative tracks. Singers Tulisa and Paloma Faith fared no better with their album reviews.
In movies, "Hyde Park on Hudson" attempted to spice up the story of Fdr but fell victim to a pointless narrative. "Deadfall" presented several ludicrous examples of family conflict and "Cheerful Weather for the Wedding," while beautifully shot, seemed to be missing the...

Cloudy With a Chance of Strain: Rice’s Debut a Sweet Coated Flimsy
For his directorial debut, Donald Rice adapts a 1932 novella written by Julia Strachney, Cheerful Weather for the Wedding, a drolly executed period endeavor concerning the mercurial affections of one very wishy washy debutante in pre-wwii England. Featuring a curiously amassed cast that may inspire high expectations, Rice can’t quite fatten up the thin source material enough to warrant a feature length treatise on a love triangle that’s hardly worth our attention. In its defense, it never regresses to cheap laughs or false humor to pander exclusively to a mainstream pedigree, but neither does it ever become a high class affair.
It’s a very subdued and drowned out day in the countryside of 1932 England, where Dolly Thatcham (Felicity Jones) is about to publicly share her nuptial bliss with hubby to be, Owen (James Norton), and...

We've hit an early December lull at multiplexes this weekend as we prepare for the onslaught of big holiday blockbusters that will soon be here. The only major release in theatres this week is the Gerard Butler rom-com Playing for Keeps, although End of Watch is also returning to a significant number of theatres for an awards season run. Does it really have a shot at an Oscar? It seems like a bit of a stretch to me. In select theatres, look for Bill Murray playing Fdr in Hyde Park on Hudson, which has been getting pretty disappointing reviews, along with Lay the Favorite starring Bruce Willis and Deadfall starring Eric Bana. If that's not enough, we've also got a South Korean Twilight rip-off called A Werewolf Boy. What will you be watching this weekend? Playing for Keeps End of Watch (re-release) Lay the Favorite (limited) Hyde Park on Hudson...

This weekly column is intended to provide reviews of nearly every new release, including films on VOD (and in certain cases some studio releases). Specifics release dates and locations follow each review. Reviews This Week "Cheerful Weather for the Wedding" "Deadfall" "The Fitzgerald Family Christmas" "Hyde Park on Hudson" "Heleno" "In Our Nature" "Lay the Favorite" "The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez" "Tchoupitoulas" "Waiting for Lightning" *** "Cheerful Weather for the Wedding" So you like "Downton Abbey"? Then "Cheerful Weather For The Wedding" was probably made for you -- especially because, as with the show, Elizabeth McGovern remains the matriarch. But while it's well-acted and nicely shot, it trades the show's fun, soapy...

One of the more pleasant, breezy times I had at a theater this year was during the Tribeca Film Festival for Cheerful Weather For The Wedding, a new UK drama from Donald Rice. Featuring Like Crazy‘s Felicity Jones and Attack the Block‘s Luke Treadaway, the film follows the couple during a lush summer of love, flashing between the present day, where the former is getting married.
In my review, I called it “a tightly wound look at hopeless love that makes for a perfectly pleasant Sunday afternoon watch in any kind of forecast.” While IFC Films has picked it up with no date set, Australia gets it this month so we’ve got the first trailer and poster. Check them out below, as well as a few stills and the rest at FilmoFilia.

Today we have for your second trailer, poster and several new photos from the upcoming drama movie Cheerful Weather for the Wedding, starring Felicity Jones, and Elizabeth McGovern.
In the film, bride-to-be Dolly (Felicity Jones) is hiding in her bedroom on her bitterly cold wedding morning, swigging a bottle of rum, and dreaming of the romantic summer she spent with Joseph (Luke Treadaway). Long-lost cousins and eccentric aunts are arriving at the house every hour, and the downstairs living rooms are buzzing with speculation as to the bride’s whereabouts.
Exasperated by her daughter’s absence, Dolly’s scatterbrained mother Hetty (Elizabeth McGovern) is at her wit’s end, scurrying around the house trying to quell the relatives’ suspicions. Hetty has perfected all of the day’s arrangements, but her plans can’t prepare everyone for the one arrival she was not expecting: Joseph himself.

Felicity Jones is one of the finest young actresses from the UK to rise in recent years, and it’s always good news to hear about her upcoming projects.
Cheerful Weather for the Wedding marks Donald Rice’s feature directorial debut, co-writing the script with Mary Henely-Magill (also making her debut), and sees Jones starring as the young lead in 1930s England:

Many films focus on the proposal, the engagement, the planning or the actual wedding, but few take a look at the anxious hours in anticipation of the holy matrimony. In the UK production Cheerful Weather for the Wedding, this anxiety is weighty, as an unrequited romance is lamented between the bride Dolly (Felicity Jones) and fleeting companion Joseph (Luke Treadaway). Making his feature debut, director Donald Rice has created a pleasant portrait of attachment and its effects, with a main relationship that is a breeze to become invested in.
“A short engagement makes for a long marriage,” remarks Dolly’s mother (Elizabeth McGovern), one of the many family members scurrying about this mansion. Despite a passionate previous summer with Joseph, told in smartly structured warm-colored flashbacks, Dolly is set to marry another man whom she only recently committed to on this March day, captured with a cold palette. With both...

There's nothing more frustrating than wasting talent. Seeing a promising young filmmaker turn in a movie that just doesn't work is as disappointing as seeing a good cast squandered by lesser material. Unfortunately, both are common but unavoidable side effects of attending film festivals and the latter is true of "Cheerful Weather for the Wedding," a lightweight British romance that had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last night. The film squanders not one but two young actors who turned in breakout performances in two of last year's most acclaimed indies. "Like Crazy" lead Felicity Jones stars as Dolly, an anxious bride on the day of her wedding while "Attack the Block" thesp Luke Treadaway is Joseph, an old friend and possibly unrequited romance. We meet the bride-to-be getting sick with nerves and swigging rum in her room while Joseph shows up early to wish the bride well...

This year's Tribeca Film Festival carries one of its strongest line-ups in years. In addition to films from Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Sundance and Berlin circuit, there's also a wealth of U.S. premieres or lesser-known festival movies in the line-up that look just as promising this time around; after a relatively weak SXSW, it looks like the East Coast is getting some of the good stuff.
Below, you'll find 15 films that seem among the most intriguing Tribeca has to offer this year. Of course, we can't speak for their quality as yet, but they certainly look promising at this point at time. And for the record, we haven't included the high-profile opening and closing films -- "The Five-Year Engagement" and "The Avengers" -- partly because they're getting more than enough attention elsewhere, and partly because we've already seen both (although can't review them just yet -- keep your eyes peeled...
