With a title like Life After Fighting, you might think this is a documentary about the lives of boxers and Mma competitors once they’ve left the ring for the last time. Instead, it’s a somewhat misnamed action film about Alex Faulkner a former competitive fighter who now runs a dojo. But we know he’s not done with fighting, or rather it’s not done with him, otherwise this would be a damn short movie.
Much of the film’s first half-hour revolves around Alex and his budding romance with Samantha who he meets when she brings her son Terry (Anthony Nassif) in for classes. It also leads to the film’s first fight when her possessive ex, Victor sics his massive buddy Milan on him.

"What's the wife of a big Hollywood producer doing livin' under a house?" Quiver has unveiled an official US trailer for an indie psychological thriller titled Paradise Cove, the latest film made by the musician / filmmaker Martin Guigui. How's this for a crazy concept? A contractor and his wife move to Malibu to flip his mother's beach house and are terrorized by the deranged homeless lady living under the house. Watch out for the unhinged squatter! The film is described as a "super fun throwback thriller" that seems to be riffing on a lot of the dumb 90s suspense films. Mena Suvari stars with Todd Grinnell, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Eddie Goines, Krista Allen, Horacio Galaviz, and Eddie Rivera. This looks a bit too wild and kooky, not in a good way. But you never know...? Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Martin Guigui's Paradise Cove, direct from YouTube: This February,...

Without live sports, one of the best alternatives around is to plop down and watch a sports film. Whether you’ve seen it before or are taking it in for the first time, there’s no shortage of options available on streaming platforms.
But let’s be honest: Plenty of sports movies are just plain terrible. You’re more likely to pick a lame one at random on Netflix than to score a winner.
Den of Geek is here to help, with a lineup of quality sports dramas and comedies — both based on fact and completely fantastic — available on Netflix (in the U.S.) that are bound to make your next streaming session a win.
Raging Bull (1980)
Arguably the greatest work of Martin Scorsese’s legendary directorial career, Raging Bull is as must-watch as it gets for film buffs and fans of sports movies alike. The biopic of former world middleweight boxing champion Jake Lamotta,...

"I need you to try to get the hell out of that elevator." Atlas Distribution has premiered a trailer for a new drama titled 9/11, telling the story of five people trapped inside an elevator in the World Trade Center's North Tower on 9/11. They work together, never giving up hope, to try and find a way out safely. It's only been 16 years, but I guess we've reached a point where movies can literally use the 9/11 date as their title when telling a story centered around this horrific moment. The ensemble cast of this film includes Charlie Sheen, Whoopi Goldberg, Luis Guzman, Gina Gershon, Wood Harris, Jacqueline Bisset, Olga Fonda and Bruce Davison. It's directed by Martin Guigui, the same guy who made the unofficial Raging Bull sequel The Bronx Bull. The final shot in this trailer is totally crazy, and potentially a spoiler? Watch out. The new trailer for the September 11th film, 9/11, starring Charlie Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg, has surfaced via a Japanese production company. The movie is based on Patrick Carson's stage play, Elevator, and dramatizes actual events adapted from voicemail messages left by victims.
While the narration and text for the new trailer are in Japanese, the clip teases out a plot in which Sheen, a married man on the verge of a divorce, finds himself trapped in an elevator in the World Trade Center's North Tower with four other people.

A new trailer has been released for the clearly unauthorized Raging Bull non-sequel The Bronx Bull. In fact, MGM probably prefers that Raging Bull and The Bronx Bull are never said in the same sentence. (Lamotta, who is now 90 years old, sold his life’s rights to MGM in 1976, and they ultimately have the last say in all things Raging Bull.) Originally titled Raging Bull II , the studio dropped its lawsuit against the film once Lamotta agreed to change the title and sever all ties to Martin Scorsese’s 1980 film. Thus, The Bronx Bull, which is another of Lamotta’s charming nicknames, was born. And it is totally not an official follow-up, y’all. Seriously. It’s unauthorized as heck.
The Bronx Bull follows Lamotta’s troubled youth in the Bronx, his rise to fame, and his life outside the ring. Boardwalk Empire’s William Forsythe stars ...

A bunch of new trailers have landed over the past day or so for all sorts of upcoming smaller films, but with a lot of them starring big names. The most high-profile would be "The Judge" which sees Robert Downey Jr. returning to drama for the story of a slick city lawyer who returns to his hometown after his mother's death and ends up having to defend his estranged father from being convicted for her apparent murder.
Tom Hardy stars in "The Drop" as a Brooklyn bartender who gets caught up in a robbery investigation that digs deep into his neighborhood's past. Noomi Rapace, James Frecheville and Matthias Schoenaerts also star, as does the late James Gandolfini in his final performance.

Way back in 2012 we heard about a sequel to the Martin Scorsese boxing drama Raging Bull, but since then, the film hasn't been given permission to associate itself with the iconic film. Instead, it's going by the title The Bronx Bull, with William Forsythe in the lead as Jake Lamotta instead of Robert De Niro. The film is both a sequel and a prequel, following Lamotta in his teenage years and also following some time in his life after his famed boxing career. Unfortuantely, it doesn't look all that great, which isn't surprising coming from Martin Guigui, whose previous work includes National Lampoon's Cattle Call, a real gem. Watch? It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about The Bronx Bull – the film project that initially billed itself as Raging Bull 2, before changing its name after legal threats. The seemingly ill-advised picture isn’t completely dead, though – no, it’s apparently moving along toward a release at some mythical date in the future. As proof, we’ve got this trailer that turned up a few months ago. We’re not sure why anyone would want to retell Jake Lamotta’s story after Scorsese did it so masterfully in Raging Bull, but the cast for this new version isn’t terrible. William Forsythe, Paul Sorvino and Joe Mantegna are headliners, and seem to be taking this all very seriously. Unfortunately, most of the trailer looks...

One of the greatest movies ever made is Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull; watching it is an experience everyone should have in their lifetime. So enter Martin Guigui with the nerve to try and taint Raging Bull’s legacy with some strange sequel, prequel, or remake – I can’t tell. His IMDb bio was likely written by himself or a friend and his list of credits include the National Lampoon movie Cattle Call. The Bronx Bull was once titled Raging Bull II; I wish I was making that up.
He somehow managed to line up a pretty good cast including William Forsythe, Joe Mantegna, Paul Sorvino, Penelope Ann Miller, and Natasha Henstridge for this low budget Jake Lamotta story. The Bronx Bull has no release date and this will probably be the last time I mention the movie.
Enjoy the trailer though!

Dear Joe Mantegna, Paul Sorvino, Natasha Henstridge and Penelope Ann Miller—you should know better. Martin Scorsese's "Raging Bull" is without question a masterpiece and one of his finest accomplishments, so why participate in a movie that doesn't have his blessing and had MGM successfully sue the filmmakers, forcing them to change the name from "Raging Bull II" (you gotta at least admire the hubris) to "The Bronx Bull"? Anyway, the first trailer is here, and yes, it looks exactly as terrible as you thought. William Forsythe leads the movie playing Jake La Motta, and you might recall that he's already gone on record saying that this movie will improve on the Scorsese original. “I understand that because it's such an iconic, beautiful and amazing first film — one of the great films maybe of all time," he said a couple years back about the push back against the sequel.

Naming and perception can be everything. Say you’re making a boxing movie, and people might be interested. Tell everyone you’re making a film about Jake Lamotta, and there’s instant name recognition. Tell people it is called Raging Bull II, and that recognition turns to scorn. Another Lamotta film is well and good, but hitching it […]

Two years after it began production as Raging Bull II and being forced to change it's title to The Bronx Bull, the sequel/prequel/remake to Martin Scorsese's classic boxing drama has released a trailer. With a pretty good cast including William Forsythe, Joe Mantegna, Paul Sorvino, Penelope Ann Miller, and Natasha Henstridge, The Bronx Bull looks every bit the low budget affair that it is. Shot in color, this version of Jake Lamotta's story ventures back to before he became a boxer and had...

There's a new crowdfunding platform exclusively for indie films and, as of today, it's open for business. indieFilmFunding.com (iFF) officially launched to the public today, along with its first theatrical film campaign, and it's a big one. The comedy "The Big Finish" comes from director Martin Guigui ("The Bronx Bull") and will be written by Guigui and Rudy De Luca ("The Carol Burnett Show"). The film will star Bob Newhart, Don Rickles, Jerry Lewis, Tim Conway, Garrett Morris, Debbie Reynolds, Cloris Leachman, Mary Tyler Moore and other legendary Hollywood actors of a certain age. In fact, De Luca joked, "We gotta hurry up and shoot this film, cause we're droppin' like flies." "The Big Finish" has set an ambitious $3 million goal for the production. Hot off the press releases!
This one is a bit odd, because I’ve read spec screenplays about the payola scandal Joe Isgro was involved in and how the government kind of screwed itself. The script I read back in the day was more about a Forrest Gump romp through different eras, but it sounds like this new film is going to be either a memoir pic or a straight biopic.
Anywho, Isgro, if you haven’t heard of him was a producer/promoter that had some organized crime connections. It sounds like he’s pairing with a writer to do this biopic, but it’s unclear if any indie production house or major studio is circling or attached.
Here’s what we know:
Isgro, whose powerful independent promotion team controlled the radio airwaves for much of the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s, is integrally responsible for launching and promoting the...

In Defence of the Reboot is a weekly column delving into the murky world of adaptations, reimaginings and inter-media storytelling. Oh, and terrible, terrible remakes.
Here comes the contradiction:
I defended the right sequels have to exist a few weeks ago. And I stand by that assessment; more often than not, a sequel can gather enough material and respectability in order to be justified. As ever, though, there are exceptions, the most heinous of which is to make a sequel to a movie that existed perfectly well as a complete story with a definitive end. Take oh, say, Raging Bull, for example. Check out the final scene:
Feels pretty conclusive (assuming you’ve actually seen the movie), right? La Motta’s old, past his prime, and more importantly, his story has been told. Well, tell that to the producers of Raging Bull II. Or, should I say, The Bronx Bull,...

Last week, I wrote about the awesome folks of Warehouse 13, whom I was lucky enough to meet after attending their panel at Dragon*Con. But they weren’t the only fantastic people at the con, oh no. In fact, Dragon*Con is always so packed with amazing guests that I never get to see or meet all of them, and am left lamenting the fact that I missed Dean Cain’s panel or never got to say hi to Jewel Staite or Sean Maher in the Walk of Fame, despite running around from hotel to hotel like a hyperactive kid in a candy store. But I did get to see and meet a lot of cool folks, and that’s what I’m here to share, so here we go!

MGM announced it has reached an amicable settlement with legendary boxing champ Jake Lamotta that will allow a new biopic based on his life to proceed. The studio had filed an injunction against the movie Raging Bull II claiming it unfairly implied the film would be an official sequel to director Martin Scorsese's classic 1980 production. Neither Scorsese or that film's star Robert De Niro have anything to do with the new movie. As part of the settlement, the title will be changed to The Bronx Bull and the producers will issue a public statement officially acknowledging that the movie has no association with the Scorsese picture. About a month ago, MGM filed a lawsuit against "Raging Bull II," a new film that's both a prequel and a sequel to Martin Scorsese's original that doesn't have the involvement or the endorsement of Scorsese or Robert De Niro. MGM has now agreed to drop the lawsuit after the filmmakers behind "Raging Bull II" have agreed to change the title and to completely disassociate itself from the original movie. The new title is now "The Bronx Bull." In the lawsuit, MGM claimed that Jake La Motta (who De Niro played in the 1980 movie) signed an agreement that gives the studio the right to any sequels. La Motta is involved with "The Bronx Bull."...

Dedicating themselves to the integrity and preservation of materials, without risk of besmirchment with pointless sequels or remakes of diminished value that film studios are known for, MGM has dropped their lawsuit against the producers of Raging Bull II (The Quickening?) and Jake Lamotta himself, after the producers changed the title, reports Deadline.
Jake Lamotta, the 91-year old boxer whose life formed the basis of the Martin Scorsese classic, Raging Bull, sold his memoirs to be adapted into a new film telling different parts of his life. However, MGM disputed these claims, alleging that they owned the rights to these memoirs because… just because, all right? Gawd, Mum.
Initially MGM tried to sue the production and have it shut down, because how dare Jake Lamotta make a film about his life without express consent from someone else.
The new film stars William Forsythe as Lamotta, and frankly looks like it’ll likely be a piece-of-shit.

There’s been some talk of the William Forsythe-starring “Raging Bull II” as of late, only we’d be lying if we said it was due to any sort of anticipation for the film’s release. In fact the conversation has mostly circled around the lawsuit between MGM and famed boxer Jake Lamotta -- the subject of the 1980 Martin Scorsese-directed classic “Raging Bull” starring Robert De Niro – due to the fact that Lamotta and producers of the unofficial sequel were looking to crib off of some of the cultural cachet of Scorsese’s original film by making it appear to be a direct sequel. Well everything seems to be working itself out as MGM has now filed to dismiss its suit against Lamotta and producers of “Raging Bull II” out of court, with the filmmakers conceding to rename the film “The Bronx Bull” and disassociate themselves with the original “Raging Bull” publicly.

"Raging Bull 2" is no longer called "Raging Bull 2." As EW.com reports, the controversial sequel to the 1980 classic "Raging Bull" is now titled "The Bronx Bull," the nickname of the film's subject, former boxer Jake Lamotta. Even further, "The Bronx Bull" is not actually a sequel to "Raging Bull" anymore, according to a joint statement from "Raging Bull" studio MGM and "Raging Bull 2" producer Dahlia Waingort.
"The parties have amicably reached a resolution of their pending litigation, pursuant to which production of a film based upon certain events in the life of Jake Lamotta will proceed under the working title 'The Bronx Bull,'" they said. "That film is not related in any way to the 1980 motion picture entitled 'Raging Bull,' and MGM is not associated with the film in any respect. It’s slightly unfortunate that Raging Bull II gets to go on and, at some point, play in front of our eyes, but MGM’s publicized lawsuit will have its consequences. Considering the main purpose behind that very legal action, this is, if not all that was hoped for, probably enough to alleviate some of their biggest concerns.
According to THR, the production’s title will no longer be associated with Martin Scorsese‘s classic, instead being forced to now go by the name of The Bronx Bull — subject Jake Lamotta‘s long-held nickname — as, on top of that, producers of the film will “issue a press release publicly disassociating the project from the MGM movie.”
The actual statement is pretty slim, but you can read it below:

While filming commenced a month ago on director Martin Guigui's Raging Bull II, MGM has only just stepped into the legal ring to stop production of the sequel to Martin Scorsese's 1980 Oscar-winning classic. Claiming breach of contract, among many other things, the studio's chief complaint is that it inherited the rights of first refusal on any project stemming from a Jake Lamotta-penned sequel - a right that both the 91-year-old former boxer and the producers of the sequel have ignored.

We haven’t reported much on the progress of Raging Bull II, mostly because making a sequel to something as beloved as Raging Bull thirty-some years after the release of the original and without the involvement of any of the iconic names who made the first so beloved is a dumb idea unworthy of much attention; but let’s do a quick rundown of the particulars anyway. The subject of the first film, Jake Lamotta, sold the rights to the sequel of his life story to a company called Rb II Productions. This has led to co-writer/director Martin Guigui putting a film together that’s going to work as part prequel and part sequel to Martin Scorsese’s 1980 film, Raging Bull. This new film, which stars William Forsythe as Lamotta, will focus on the period of the boxer’s life before Raging Bull took place, as well as on what happened to him after. It...

But let's rewind on this a bit first. Based on the book of the same name by Jake Lamotta, Chris Anderson and Sharon McGehee, which examines both the early life and the events after those told in the Martin Scorsese picture, the film is being directed by Argentine-born helmer Martin Guigui, whose credits include "National Lampoon's Cattle Call" and most recently, the Dennis Quaid thriller "Beneath the Darkness."
