Not What I Expected
grynkewichjustin18 February 2022
As always, this series delivers a beautifully shot episode with some stellar acting, writing, directing, costumes, everything! I wish a little more happened and there was less yelling, but the opening and ending scenes are near-perfect. Can't wait for the rest of the season!

Frantic
Hitchcoc19 February 2022
This episode is like a bomb going off. From the crazy cab ride from the airport to the trip to Coney Island. The talking is non stop. No one is listening to anyone else. Their ships passing and feelings don't seem to matter. Midge is hurt and angry. Susie needs money to pay her back. So she is doing everything she can to replace it. I'm assuming that future episodes will settle down a bit.

So incredibly much
screenwriter-972-14961219 February 2022
I'll soon be 72. Watched a lot of TV and would be hard pressed to recall another American TV episode that put so much on the screen. Not all of it was good. A small bit was bad. Most was inspired.

The after-monologue taxi ride? Forced and close to silly. But Rachel Brosnihan as Ursala Andress in She or sort of an Attack of the 50 Foot Woman did make me chuckle. The detail put into Mrs. Maisel's ex-husband's night club was beyond good. But that Ferris wheel scene? Brilliant.

All the characters literally talking past themselves as they're stuck going round and round an getting nowhere was not only a perfect visual metaphor, but it was also crisp, well edited and utterly entertaining. The payoff for me was when Midge...and only Midge...got off. Only Mrs. Maisel realized that everyone else is trapped in a cage going nowhere. As I said, inspired.

This was a memorable piece of television.

Screwball comedy revisited
prcmd25 February 2022
Screwball comedy revisited The show starts off with a bang and never stops. As seen on them Ferris wheel in the amusement park is perfect laugh aloud comedic writing. Multi layered, stacked with eccentric characters all talking past through each other. Fantastic start to a new season.

I just love the show too much

I heared the news that the show comes back in February 18 and I am happy from then on. I love the show about female power and many women get their jobs. Thanks for creating the show, and best wishs for the producers.

Best episode ever!
hilbert-444565 April 2022
Best episode ever - this season is finally opened with the true emancipation of Mrs. Maisel. She is angry and she let's you know. All the weird chaos, all the great ideas and writing, all the wonderful pictures, all the laughs and fun I had - genius. It's a love or hate episode - well, at least not only for the characters but for the audience, too.

Mostly bad
pauli_gomez20 February 2022
Even when they are some good things (the acting is good as ever, the scene between Joel and Suzie was nice, and Midge discovering "her thing") the rest of it was bad. The Ferris Whell scene was too over the top even for this show, same with the magician one. And the main is problem is entitled Midge not realizing that she was the one who messed up. That all by outing a gay man is never ok, and particularly not in 1960. She was the unconsiderate who revealed something she should not. I can accept she is oblivious of how wrong she was, but someone in universe should call her for that!

Yelling
vintagegeek19 February 2022
This was a very disappointing first episode of season four. She spent the whole time screaming at people. Very little comedy. Nothing but whining from her father throughout the entire episode. The whole extravaganza at Coney Island and the Ferris wheel was horrible.

Could my favorite TV show running out of steam?
paul-685-66457518 February 2022
I sincerely hope that the answer to my question in the title will be a resounding "no/neyn/n'et" but EP01S04 was a disappointment. Too much screaming, too much swearing, too shallow humor, and too many recycled punchlines. For instance, it was obvious from the beginning that the Chinese muscle guy will speak English (with an American accent).

Other fantastic TV shows such as All in the Family or Maude, etc., proved that eventually they couldn't keep up the quality, so probably this is a natural process.

Still, Mrs. Maisel is fun to watch and is highly recommended.

Disastrous start to Season 4
judgewashington19 February 2022
Season 4 begins with absolutely no recap and no opening credits, which is a bit puzzling as Season 3 ended over 2 years ago. You're left desperately trying to remember where Season 3 left off, the characters, and the situations, all of which continue with no explanation. It also doesn't help that the first 10 minutes include what resembles a terribly unfunny pyschotic breakdown. The bloom is off this series. They should have stopped at Season 3. BTW, someone should have informed the writers that people didn't use the "F" word in every sentence back in the early 1960s...they just didn't.

Disappointing start to Season 3
stefanchikm-201822 February 2022
Feels like this wonderful show lost some of its momentum over the pandemic break. First episode was nonstop ranting as others have noted, and they really wore out the bumping into furniture jokes in episode 2. And the "f bombs." Will give up on this show if it doesn't improve in the next episode. Too bad because I really loved the first two seasons.

Strong Opening!
sparklefish21 February 2022
Season 4 is off to a strong start! It has rapid fire dialogue, tons of energy, and lots of laughs! I laughed aloud multiple times.

As always, the styling and art direction is top shelf!

Tony Shaloub is perfect as the stressed out and frantic Dad. I loved the Coney Island scenes, especially the Ferris Wheel scene. Everything was fast paced and energetic and very entertaining.

My main complaint about so many other shows is that they drag-not this one. It's a fun manic ride from start to finish!

Dull as dishwater until the ferris wheel
I have loved the first three seasons of MMM and was excited about season 4. This episode didn't get off to a good start. Everyone was shouting all the time, Abe was acting out of character, too much Suzie and her sister, everyone was talking (shouting) super quick. Pointless babbling on Coney Island. Bad.

Then came the scene on the ferris wheel and from there the MMM I love returned. Fingers crossed this continues...

Why is she screaming all of her lines?
tlpme-6811618 February 2022
If the first two episodes of season 4 are an indication of where this show is going then they have lost a viewer here. Why is she screaming all of her lines...for that matter why is just about everyone been turned into a cartoon character? Susie and Joel are about the only likable characters fit to watch. I hope this settles back into the wonderful show it was for the first 3 seasons.

Warning: Spoilers
Always enjoyed this show but it has completely lost its way. Characters have no believability. Mrs Maisel's anger at losing her job manifests itself in a boring cursed filled stand up routine and shouted lines throughout the episode. The scene on the Ferris is beyond ridiculous as is the one in the dungeon like insurance company office. I guess the writer/director just ran out of ideas.

Ugh! No!
szokia18 February 2022
Strained and floundering script. What was this? The acting is fine, but what can they do with such a terrible script? It's like watching a really bad episode of Mama's Family. Only worse... Fast shooting one-liners that are not funny. Boring plot line. Much of it looks like it's a play on a stage. None of it good. If the next episode doesn't pick up, I'm done!

Not What I Expected At All.
jp-2064 March 2022
Season four is not off to a good start. People are yelling all the time. Her father has turned into who knows what. The exposition from previous seasons is poorly woven into the story and it's just wasn't good.

And what's with all the F-bombs? People did not talk that way in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Wow, what a disappointment.

Very disappointing
theresamurtha-3211019 February 2022
I loved this show until now. The screaming Mrs, Mazel is a more appropriate title now. Script poor. Boring and not funny. The actors seem to be walking through their roles and lack believability or interest. So very disappointed in what had been an excellent series.

Began with a bomb
aes7425 February 2022
Just not as witty and fun as the previous seasons. Constant yelling, weird breakdowns, and too many F bombs. Something is missing from the show and they decided to fill the hole with f bombs.

Jumped The F-bomb Shark
Paul-27122 February 2022
Like Mad Men, much of the enjoyment this show once offered stemmed from the 1950s to 1960s look and culture. This started to crumble in S3 with the introduction of current time sensibilities. It took a huge nosedive in S4 with every other word now one of the 7 deadly ones that Lenny Bruce used to say was forbidden particularly the F-bomb.

This not just from the abrasive, annoying Susie character but from everybody. It's as if modern talk where this tedium is expected, suddenly happened in 1960. Hot flash writers. Nobody and I mean nobody spoke this way in 1960. It wasn't scandalous, it was disgusting to people if anybody tried.

Meanwhile, we get the modern interpretation of the self-indulgent supposedly put upon female in a male world. For example, the lead character decides, after wasting all her money on an apartment, that the way to live is to cheat gullible businesses into extending her credit she'll only pay if things go her way. One business declines the con which PROVES that women are oppressed.

Meanwhile one woman, the sister of Dirty Susie, prostitutes herself to defraud a company. That's portrayed as being on the side of the angels. I'm into E2 or S4 and I'm out for good.

This show has hit a new low
spinosa53 March 2022
We've been big fans of the show for the first two seasons, the third season not so much. But this first episode of season four is unwatchable. It opens with the main character doing a stand-up, in which she uses the f-bomb four times in about a minute. It's not funny when comics do that today, and it would have been unthinkable in the 1960's. We only got about half-way through the episode and gave up, after there wasn't a single funny line. Might go back and try again, but the show was already on the downward slide.
