Same level as the first, but not really impressive

"Der Ruf der Berge - Schatten der Vergangenheit" follows the first film from 2 years earlier. There is a new director (Karsten Wichniarz, decent television experience), but the writer is still the same and also plays the guy named Xaver again. They managed to get pretty much all the major male characters, but switched through all the girls. There is a new love interest for the writer-actor in here, a small girl plays a big role too. And as the first, the best thing about the film are probably the mountain landscapes, the cute dogs (OMG mountain dog puppies) and Buchrieser's antagonist performance. But Rauch does a good job too. Without this duo, it may have been even worse. Unfortunately, the script is a bit cheesy at times, for example how it shoves into our faces that Rauch's character is all white and Buchrieser's all black (after the former saved the latter's life and yet gets punished for it) and yet includes a twist at the end. Yet, there is really nothing memorable about this film, just like the first one. Not recommended. And I wondered why it is called "Shadow of the Past". It does not really fit the story at all as there is pretty much not a single reference to something that happened in the first film or even before in here.
