Nancy tells Shane that he should go to school so that he can become "a doctor, or lawyer, or business executive"; it's a line from the theme song of the first three seasons of the show "Little Boxes," originally sung by Malvina Reynolds.
In the restroom at Julio's, there is a prominent graffito in ungrammatical Spanish. It is a translation of an offensive couplet that rhymes in English though not in Spanish. ("Here I sit, bowels flexing, giving birth to a baby Texan.") The same inscription, in English, was seen by Andy in Mother Thinks the Birds Are After Her (2008) on another bathroom.
The song during the end credits is "Don't Try to Fool Me" by Miss Li.
