Jason Biggs and Joel David Moore ("Avatar") are set to star in the Seattle-based independent political comedy "Grassroots." Peggy Rajski produces via Matthew Brady's Mrb Productions. Stephen Gyllenhaal's directs and co-writes based on the memoir by Phil Campbell called "Zioncheck for President." Biggs will play a recently fired journalist who reluctantly agrees to lead the Seattle City Council campaign of his eccentric friend (Moore). "Grassroots" will start filming in Seattle towards the end of June. Gyllenhaal other credits include "Dangerous Woman," "Waterland" and "Losing Isaiah." Additionally, he directed and co-wrote and "Homegrown." What do we think? Biggs' last film of note, was Lionsgate's "My Best Friend's Girl" with Kate Hudson and Dane Cook. The actor has been struggling in shorts, minor efforts ("Lower Learning") and flops like "Over Her Dead Body" with Eva Longoria Parker and Paul Rudd. A move to a stronger, dramatic role is required to...

I add movies to the database almost daily as well as cast members to those movies and unless it is a major film I tend to pretty much forget everything I do just moments after I do it. That's why when I checked out the latest clip from Rogue's The Last House on the Left it surprised me to find Monica Potter as part of the cast even though in March of 2008 I even included her name in a casting article. I only mention this because I still remember back around the time Con Air was released and Potter's name was mentioned as an up-and-coming actress. Perhaps it was only because of her looks, but either way she was someone people were talking about. Then, not a whole lot happened. She had a part in Patch Adams in 1998 and then with Along Came a Spider in 2001 the buzz had seemed to die completely.

Worst 10 Movies of 2008 A Worst Movies list is obviously all dependent on how many films someone sees over the course of the year. Being someone that has to write about movies for a living I see my fair share, but I also do my best to avoid as many bad films as I can. So far this year I have reviewed 134 theatrical releases, which is a personal record for me since starting this site in 2003 so I would like to think I saw my fair share of bad films. Yet, so many films weren't screened for critics and I tend to avoid films such as Disaster Movie, College, Mad Money, Superhero Movie!, Meet Dave, The Hottie and the Nottie or anything from Tyler Perry. So this list is my personal list of worst films and I am sure many of you will have a different top ten and I can't wait to hear them.

Check out the latest movie poster from the upcoming comedy “Lower Learning” by director Mark Lafferty (The Seventh Sense) and starring Jason Biggs (American Pie), Eva Longoria Parker (Desperate Housewives) and Rob Corddry (Semi-Pro, W.) Synopsis: Barry Goldwater Elementary is on the brink of collapse: the lowest test scores in the state, teachers who are either drunk or having sex on school grounds, and a principal who extorts money from parents. It’s up to Tom, the down-on-his-luck vice-principal, to rally the lazy teachers, expose the principal’s corruption, and turn the school around before an end of the day board decision that is certain to lead to its closure. Stay tuned to [...]...

OK, I'll be the first to admit that overall, the upcoming comedy Lower Learning does not look like a terrific way to spend 90 minutes. The reasons are clear: A) Jason Biggs B) Eva Longoria Parker C) They were both in Over Her Dead Body D) The first 115 seconds of the new Red Band trailer aren't terribly interesting.
But the last ten seconds seem like they're lifted from a movie with an actual motive...somewhere. First, an actress I haven't seen in probably three years and who hasn't been the least bit relevant in over five years delivers the best line of the trailer. "Is that...", I asked my monitor. "Did she...", I followed up. Yes and yes.
And then the very last clip, which some parents groups would probably think should be illegal, is a better capper than the trailer actually deserves. If the movie is...

Take every bad comedy you've seen this year, bunch them together, shake them, and whatever falls out is the cast of a movie called Lower Learning. It stars Eva Longoria and Jason Biggs as teachers at the world's worst elementary school. They're about to be shut down because, as Rob Corddry points out in the red band trailer below, their kids are "pretty much retarded." Despite being red banded, the trailer is actually, in addition to being completely unfunny, rather harmless. Besides the aforementioned retard joke nothing of any note happens until the last ten seconds when a teacher curses at a kid and two tykes discuss injecting themselves with what we can only assume is some form of heroin. I wonder if that had anything to do with earning the red band label? Please, don't think edgy, pre-teen drug use means it's good. This may be the worst movie...

Ambush Entertainment produces for release by Anchor Bay. Shore is also scoring another comedy: Made for Each Other, starring Patrick Warburton and Danny Masterson. Daryl Goldberg directs. The composer's other recently completed scores include Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer and Shadows.Brought to you by Upcoming Film Scores (http://upcomingfilmscores.blogspot.com).
