- Lucifer angles to be his father's successor. Ella makes a painful confession. Chloe investigates a murder at an aquarium.
- While Chloe and Lucifer work on the case of an aquarium worker's murder, Chloe worries that Lucifer's ascension to God might adversely affect their relationship. Meanwhile, Lucifer tries to retire God's retirement, Maze considers her going to Hell for her guilt over breaking up with Eve, and Michael plots to take the throne instead of Lucifer.—Gislef
- As they drive, Lucifer tells Chloe that he's going to be the new God. Chloe asks about the other angels, and Lucifer tells her that it's best they don't find out until God announces he's retiring. Chloe wonders why Lucifer wants to be God. He insists that it's going to be great because he'll eliminate war, hunger, and hangovers.
As they pull up to an aquarium, Lucifer points out that he thought Chloe would be more excited about his new job. Chloe apologizes and gets out, and says that she's trying to work out what it means for them. Lucifer assures her that it won't change a thin. Lucifer insists that it's a good thing, but figures she needs more time to process. He figures that it should be business as usual until she does process, and they go into the aquarium crime scene.
Inside, Ella and Dan are with the victim's body. The aquarium chief operator, Bruna Lorenzoni, was torn apart by a shark in a nearby tank, Ella says that the victim was stabbed to death before she was thrown into the tank. Bruna's left arm is missing, and the fingernails on the right hand show signs of a struggle. Elizabeth Newman found the body, and Chloe and Lucifer talk to Newman.
Newman says that Bruna didn't answer her calls, and when she came to find her she found Bruna's body. The woman says that she didn't know anyone who wanted Bruna dead, and doesn't know who would have had access to the aquarium after hours. Lucifer points out to Chloe that once he's God, he'll know the answer to all of Chloe's questions. Amenadiel is watching from the shadows, and Lucifer sees him and approaches his brother.
Amenadiel tells Lucifer that God is back, and he's still retiring. They go to God's retirement picnic, where the angels have gathered. God is making hot dogs, and the overly-chatty Gabriel joins them and tells Amenadiel to tell him everything about Linda. He refuses, and Gabriel tells him that she has plenty of gossip without him. She says that Michael told her that God is losing it, and Amenadiel worries that someone will see them out in public. Lucifer points out that they're in LA and no one will notice, and leads Amenadiel over to God.
Ramiel intercepts them, and she and Amenadiel hug. She's not so enthused to see Lucifer. and Zadkiel comes over and wonders who invited the Devil. He spits on Lucifer's shoes, and Lucifer's eyes glow red. Amenadiel comes over and tells Lucifer that it's not a godly way to behave, and Lucifer excuses himself.
God welcomes Lucifer and Amenadiel to his retirement party, and Gabriel asks who the new God will be. The other archangels come over, and Ramiel says that Amenadiel is the obvious choice. Lucifer says that it's going to be him, but none of the other angels believe it. Amenadiel tells the other angels that Lucifer has his full support, and Lucifer points out that he ran Hell for millennia and is fully qualified, while none of the other angels have run anything. Ramiel says that she can't support Lucifer, and Zadkiel tells God that it's his choice. He asks God who He chooses. God says that they'll deal with his retirement plan first and then his successor, and offers hot dogs.
Later at the station, Lucifer tells Chloe about God's new plan. He figures that he's going to make God's retirement plans for him, and is looking through retirement community brochures. Chloe tries to get Lucifer to focus on the case, and says that they had a lead. Bruna was arguing with husband.
They bring the husband, Demian, in. He admits that he threatened Bruna, and that was because she didn't pay attention to anything but the aquarium. Lucifer is still going through the brochures, and Chloe notices. Demian says Bruna didn't pay attention to him, or their children, or the housework. He gives them an alibi that he was home with their two sick children, and says that Bruna was making late-night calls to a restaurant owner, Jeremy Morgan. The husband followed Bruna to Jeremy's house, and it turned out that it wasn't an affair but about the aquarium.
Lucifer still isn't paying attention, and Demian wishes that Bruna was cheating on him because it would prove her aquarium wasn't her entire universe. Chloe asks if Demian thought that Bruna was the god of the aquarium, and he says that she was and didn't have time for the one who loved her the most: him. Chloe points out to Lucifer what Demian is saying about how his god is different because she has time for her beloved, and Lucifer asks Demian for his opinion on retirement homes. Demian points out that Bruna is dead, but Lucifer persists and Demian says that he'd wanted Bruna by his side.
Considering, Lucifer figures that God could do with a new partner. Chloe complains, and Lucifer says that he's been listening and then asks if the "Jeremy" is Jeremy of Jeremy's Fine Food. Demian confirms that it is, and Lucifer tells Chloe that Jeremy is known for serving rare animals. Chloe figures that Bruna found out that fish missing were being sold to Jeremy, and that's motive for murder.
Maze meets with Linda and tells her that having a soul is the worst. Having a soulmate that can die is torture, and Linda tells Maze to focus on what she does have. Maze figures that Eve will end up in Heaven, and Maze can never go there with all the terrible things she's done. Linda points out that Maze wanted to go back to Hell, and Maze explains that she wanted to go back as Hell's torturer. With a soul, she'll turn up as one of the tortured. Horrified, Maze realizes how they'll torture and goes to "fix it".
Chloe Meets Lucifer at Jeremy's Fine Food Restaurant, surprised that they're not confronting Jeremy there. Lucifer figures that they've have an easier time getting him to confessed in a relaxed setting. Chloe says that it's a nice work/life balance, and maybe she was worrying unnecessarily about how him becoming God would affect their relationship. God comes in with Chloe's mother, Penelope, and Lucifer admits that he set the whole thing up as a "double Decker" date.
The couples go to their table and God says that he was blind-sided by the invitation, and Penelope learns for the first time that God is Lucifer's father. God tells Penelope that she can call him God, and Chloe passes it off as an abbreviation of "Godfrey". Lucifer figures that they would hit it off. Penelope insists that she's not retired, and says that her husband was supportive of her. Chloe points out that John was supportive of Penelope, and gave up his career because of Penelope's. God chimes in, saying children blame them for everything, and Penelope agrees with him then starts flirting with God.
Maze goes to Linda's house and prepares to kill several helpless dogs. Amenadiel comes in and asks what she's doing, and she tells him she 's killing innocent creatures so they'll torture her in Hell for that, changing her Hell loop of being trapped in the hospital room, breaking Eve's heart and losing her over and over forever. Amenadiel tells her that might not happen, and suggests that she ask Lucifer for help when he becomes God, and Maze goes to find Lucifer.
God and Penelope talk about their offsprings' rebellious years, Chloe changes the topic to God's work/life balance. God says that his life was mostly all work, and it caused a lot problems between him and his wife. She always felt He didn't have enough time for her, and concedes that maybe she was right. As Chloe takes that in, Lucifer asks the waiter. The waiter refuses, telling Lucifer that he has the wrong idea, and leaves. Lucifer tells Chloe that it's just a snag and they should concentrate on their parents. Jeremy comes over, introduces himself, and apologizes for the waiter's behavior. He presents panda tartare, and Chloe places him under arrest.
Ella meets with Linda in her office for a session and tells describes how she pictured a man getting hit by a car, and didn't do anything to help him. Linda suggests that Ella take some time off since catching Pete, and Ella insists that the job centers her, and explains that she's been that way her entire life but she's hidden her darkness from everyone. She wonders how she can accept it.
The next day, Chloe and Lucifer question Jeremy. Lucifer is more worried about why God hasn't texted him about how His date went. Chloe focuses on Jeremy, and figures that Bruna found out about Jeremy's operation and was going to expose him, so he murdered her. Jeremy insists that he had nothing to do with Bruna's death, and defends his business practices.
Lucifer gets a text back from God, while Jeremy says that Bruna knew about his business and offered to sell her some Bluefin tuna. A week ago Bruna said she needed to sell $47,000 worth of fish, but Jeremy couldn't afford to pay her that much. When he turned her down, Bruna freaked out and they argued. Jeremy has an alibi for the night of the murder, and Lucifer goes out to call God because he can't make out God's texts.
Lucifer finds God in the station on the balcony watching Ella through the window in her office. God tells his son that Penelope is lovely, but is too young for Him. Lucifer is disappointed and tells his father that he'll find Him a match, and God tells his son that there will only be one woman that He ever loves. When Lucifer tells God that he'll plan a different element of His retirement, insisting that he needs to make sure everything is ready unless God wants to declare His successor now, He angrily says that God should do so, and God tells Lucifer that everything in its time and he doesn't want Lucifer to speak of his retirement again. Lucifer agrees and walks off, and god goes back to watching Ella.
Later, God and Amenadiel are playing golf. God scores another hole in one, and figures Lucifer asked Amenadiel to talk to Him about His retirement, God asks if Amenadiel if sure he wants Lucifer to take His place, and Amenadiel tells his father that Lucifer has come a long way and does his best when someone put their faith in him. God just chuckles, and Amenadiel says that he's glad He's back and enjoying spending time with Him.
Amenadiel points out that it doesn't seem like God is losing it, and God says that the Michael is the first one who noticed His "problem" a few months back. The more they talked about it, the more God realized He was losing control of his power. Amenadiel suggests that God is self-actualizing based on Michael's suggestion.
At the station, Lucifer gets a text from Amenadiel saying that God didn't want to see any of the rest homes Lucifer picked. Chloe wonders if God is reconsidering retiring, and Lucifer realizes that Chloe doesn't want him to be God. She points out that Lucifer has been distracted during the case and she wonder if Lucifer will have time for them once he becomes God. Lucifer insists that he's going to do things differently, but Chloe isn't convinced.
Ella comes over and says that she's confirmed Jeremy's story, and Bruna was selling her fish. A few days before Bruna was murdered, $447,000 was transferred into her account. Ella tracked the transfer to an address, and Lucifer smiles in recognition.
The partners go to a combination sushi bar and dojo at the address, and Lucifer notices the Yakuza tattoos on one of the staff. Lucifer goes to fight the owner, who is the winning fighter, to earn his respect and get them an invitation. They fight with wooden bokken and Lucifer knocks the owner down, much to amusement of his patrons. The owner gets a real katana, and Lucifer tosses his bokken and fights the owner barehanded. Lucifer wins, catching his opponent's hand in his invulnerable hand.
The owner, Sato Miki, invites them to eat. He says that he only bought legal stuff from Bruna, and the $47,000 was a donation Sato made because Bruna was an honorable woman. He explains that Bruna was putting the money back into the aquarium to save the fish, and without the money the aquarium would go under. An angry woman called asking about the money and implied it was about the missing fish, but Sato didn't catch her name. The partners figure that Newman was the woman who called, but they have no evidence to prove it
At the penthouse Maze meets Lucifer and gives him her engagement ring to Eve because she figures she won't need it. She wants Lucifer to put her on the throne of Hell, so she can control who does the torturing. Lucifer agrees and proposes a toast.
God comes to see Ella at her lab, and she realizes that he's God. She says that it would be easier if He told her how to catch their killer. He says that he can't, and asks what he can do to help about the struggle she's going though. When Ella mentions the darkness in her, God tells her that everyone has darkness and it's about accepting it. Ella says that her's is deeper, and attracts her to bad people, and thinks she's a bad person. God assures her that the darker the darkness, the brighter the light. He tells Ella that he can see her light from Heaven.
The results come up for Ella, and she realizes her hunch has paid off. She turns back to God, and discovers that he's disappeared.
Chloe and Dan meet in the conference room to go over the case, and she tells her ex about Lucifer becoming God. Dan takes it casually and mentions Lucifer's prank, and merely says that it was a transformative experience. Chloe worries that Lucifer won't be able to balance God with being her boyfriend, and Dan tells her that they're cray about each other so they should just let it happen.
Ella comes in and tells the detectives that she pinged the location of Bruna's Fitbit, and it's still inside of a shark at the aquarium. Dan points out that the odds of getting any useful evidence from the arm are slim, and Chloe points out that the killer doesn't know that.
Chloe and Lucifer go to the aquarium two hours later, and find Newman trying to get the shark moved. Newman claims the shark is too large for its tank, and Chloe points out that she told Newman the shark is digesting a piece of evidence two hours ago. Newman says that they need a warrant to search the shark's stomach, and Chloe says that they have a warrant and are going through Newman's office.
Newman breaks into tears and says that she was too hands' off, and found out too late that Bruna was choosing which fish which would live and which should die and be sold. Lucifer asks if Newman enjoyed "smiting" Bruna, and Newman claims Bruna's death was an accident and she lost her temper and stabbed Bruna with a letter opener. The owner says that if she had just listened to Bruna, none of it would have happened. Lucifer considers her words, and Chloe puts Newman under arrest.
Lucifer hesitates when Chloe starts to leave, and she asks if he's okay. He figures he hasn't b3een listening to what his father really wants, and excuses himself to do something.
Going to the penthouse, Lucifer steps out on the balcony and prays to Gabriel asking if the archangel can talk. Gabriel finally flies down, and Lucifer asks her to do him a favor.
The next day, Penelope comes to see Chloe, claims she's there to give Trixie a box of cake mix even though Trixie won't be back until later, and says that she didn't make her husband give up her dreams. Chloe points out that he did even if Penelope didn't make him, and Penelope says that she and her husband made a deal that they'd take turns. When it came up time for his turn, he died. Penelope wanted to see John become a detective, and Chloe apologizes for thinking otherwise. Her mother says that she needs Chloe to know that she loved John from the bottom of her heart, and she'd give anything to have another chance at being a supporting partner. They hug and Chloe invites Penelope to stay for dinner.
That night, Lucifer calls Amenadiel and God to the Lux bar. Lucifer has enlisted Gabriel's help to deliver a message to Charlotte, and Charlotte comes in. Lucifer tells Amenadiel that Charlotte only had enough power for one visit. God figures that Charlotte understand what he's gone through, and figures she's better at being God of her universe than He ever was. Charlotte admits that it gets lonely at the top, while Amenadiel tells Lucifer that he found out Michael has been gaslighting God. God and Charlotte kiss, and Lucifer figures they can be God and prove himself worthy.
Lucifer goes over and asks God where he's going for his retirement. Charlotte says that they've decided they're going to her universe. Amenadiel angrily asks if they're going to leave again without any ability to come back, and God says that Charlotte spent a long time in his world and it's time he spend time in hers.
God and Charlotte both embrace Amenadiel, and Lucifer tells God that there's no longer any reason for Him to retire. Lucifer admits that he does, but asks God to stay a bit longer. God tells Lucifer that nothing lasts forever, while Charlotte tells Amenadiel that she's sorry she didn't get to say goodbye the last time. Amenadiel says that he's trying his best but is far from perfect. Charlotte tells him that his trying his best is what makes him perfect.
God tells Lucifer that he's given him a life of choice, but this choice is his. He tells Lucifer that he was right that he could have been a better father to him, and now that He's retiring He can say that he loves Lucifer and is proud of the man he's become. They hug, and Lucifer suggests that God tell Amenadiel. God says that he already told Amenadiel over golf, and Charlotte comes over and says that her universe needs her. Parents and sons hug, and Charlotte thanks Lucifer for bring her and God back together.
As the couple, goes, Amenadiel reminds God that he forgot to name his successor. God says that it's not up to him anymore, and they'll figure it out and it's all part of his Plan. As they go, Lucifer asks God if it was all His plan. God just chuckles, and Charlotte says goodbye to "her loves" as Amenadiel hugs Lucifer and the couple disappear.
Later, Lucifer is on his balcony drinking. Chloe comes up and says that she's glad Lucifer called her. He looks up at the sky, and Chloe tells Lucifer that she's decided to quit the LAPD. She explains that she became a cop so that she could do good and help people, and as God Lucifer will have the power to help everyone. So if Chloe can help Lucifer become God, she'll be helping everyone. Lucifer asks if she's sure, and Chloe tells them that he's been helping her do her job and now it's her turn to support him. They kiss.
Remiel arrives and asks where God is, and Lucifer tells her that God left for good and didn't name his successor and God said it was up to them to figure it out. Lucifer he tells her to talk to him and Chloe, his "consultant", and Remiel says that when she returned to the Silver City, she discovered that Michael has been gathering support from the others. Lucifer figures that Michael wants to be God, and Remiel warns that if it's up to their brothers and sisters then Michael has a good chance. She kneels to Lucifer and says that she's backing Lucifer because she hates Michael more.
The archangel figures Michael would never expect her to take Lucifer's side, and offers to find out what Michael is up to. Lucifer and Chloe agree, and Lucifer figures that Michael won't waste any time.
Michael meets Gabriel, who says that she did the favor for Lucifer like Michael asked her to. She says that she got "the thing" and shows Michael Azrael's Blade. He reminds her that the Blade can actually kill them, and examines it with glee.
